A: Yes, software is provided to scan multiple sheets of paper to pdf via the document feeder. Yes, it does support smaller sized auto document feeding; maximum width is 8.5 inches.
Q: I see it has one tray for paper. Is there a manual tray to put envelopes in?
A: Yes, the front cover drops down to access the alternate feed and is adjustable including envelopes.
Q: Will this printer scan even when the cartridge is empty/low?
A: I haven't had this printer long enough to have a low cartridge but imagine that wouldn't have anything to do with scanning.
Q: Can you get this printer to print on 11x17 paper
A: No the printer width is only 8.5". It can handle legal (8.5" x 14") but nothing larger/
