Q: Is this a true Belgian type waffle maker? A thicker waffle than a regular waffle maker?
A: Yes, it is a true Belgian waffle maker. You may make a waffle thicker a bit (using the "Thick" mark on the measuring cup) but then the waffle maker might leak a bit. I recommend to use "Thin" setting, it is good enough to feel Belgian waffle at hand.
