Overall money for the value

Quality2 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Note: I usually don't post pictures, but I was pretty sure the touch pad was a defect. Do not argue with your customer > Bestbuy and Dell !!! Bought this laptop with price match against Walmart. Went to pick up the laptop. Noticed there's a gap between the touch pad. Brought it back to Bestbuy, they wouldn't do anything about it because I did not buy insurance from them. Asked me to contact Dell which I did. Went back and forth between Bestbuy and Dell. Finally Dell decided to take a look at the laptop. Replaced the touch pad. I had purchased $2,000 gaming laptop when I was a heavy gamer; no issues, This laptop is good for work and lightweight gaming. Pros *Huge screen 17.3" is about the largest screen you can get for a laptop. *16 GB RAM (most laptop has only 8 GB). *SSD and HDD (1st time having both). *Fast boot up because of SSD (~10 secs). * 1 TB memory. *Base speed is 1.5 GHz. *Dell replaced the touch pad. *Integrated graphics card. *Decent speaker. Cons *defected touch pad (bad impression for first time Dell owner). *Program that consume high power usage will cause the fan to continuously running until you terminate the process/program. *Material feel cheap; especially the keyboard. *Does not have a dedicated graphics card.

Works fine
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality2 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5Works fine but I sometimes use this laptop all day and the cooling fan runs constantly like it's overheating. I didn't experience this issue with my HP. The vent on Dell is on the bottom of the laptop whereas the HP vent is on the side which makes more sense if the laptop is on a desk while working. There's not a lot of space for the vent and the laptop gets hot fast. If you actually use this computer on your lap, maybe the vent is in the right place (bottom middle), but this is probably not the best machine for all-day remote work on a desk or table. Consider this when making your purchase.

Posted .WorkinFool,
Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the fan noise and the overheating that you're experiencing. We'd recommend that you try to update the BIOS on your computer if you'd like to see if this helps minimize the fan troubles that you're having:
An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

Posted .Jerry,
Thanks for your review and we're sorry to hear about the issues that you've had with your laptop so far. Here are some tips to help with your connectivity concerns:
1. Download and install the latest Wireless Card driver. (https://dell.to/2th3Tpe) After updating the driver, re-establish the connection with the Wireless Access Point and check the wireless performance.
2. If the issue persists, proceed to step 3.
3. Power-cycle the local network. Shut down the Dell system, the Wireless Access Point/Router and the Modem. Wait a minimum of 60 seconds before powering up the components in the following order:
4. Power ON the Modem, and wait for it to boot fully.
5. Power ON the Wireless Access Point/Router, and wait for it to boot fully.
6. Power ON the Dell system.
7. Open Network and Sharing Center
8. In the left side navigation pane, click on Change Adapter Settings
9. Right click on the wireless connection icon and select Properties followed by the Configure button
10. Under Wireless Options, select the Wireless N mode
11. For Windows 8 or later systems click the Advanced tab and look for 802.11n Mode on the right you will be given the option to Enable or Disable. If the mode is not visible you may need to update your drivers and firmware.
12. From the drop-down menu, choose Disable followed by Ok
13. This should restore the wireless download and upload speed. Internet speed can be tested at http://speedtest.net. If you are still having noise coming out of your computer, we'd recommend updating the BIOS on your computer: Update the BIOS: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

Varied Satisfaction
|Posted .Owned for 3 months when reviewed.Features
Quality3 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5The device is pretty awesome, but the battery does die quickly. You can adjust the power supply settings and change what programs run at start up and in the background to accommodate your power needs, though. That may help some, but it’s a powerful device. Unfortunately, on occasion, windows close or the device randomly resets itself which I didn’t expect with a powerful device like this. I’m thrilled I found a laptop with a CD/DVD drive, but it’s flimsy. It serves my needs, I only wish the keyboard was backlit.

Great computer for Distance Teaching
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5My wife is a school teacher, and we got this computer as her main tool of distance learning. For that purpose, it's fantastic. It's fast and it has the bandwidth to broadcast out learning videos to 30 + students during zoom lessons. The larger screen is helpful, too. We were pleasantly surprised that it came with a DVD-ROM drive. Having two hard drives is a little awkward, and the standard hard drive comes with a noisy fan. It may have been better to shell out more money for a 1 TB solid state drive. Don't know how this does with high end games. It's heavy, but it sits on a desk. We wouldn't want to lug it around in a backpack.

Performance Positive
|Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Was happy with the performance of my Dell 15" laptop purchased in 2014 until the day it would not turn power up. Checked the battery and all suggestions from Google and Dell Support to no success. Turns out the motherboard died. I felt a Dell computer should've lasted longer & was not going to purchase Dell again. After comparing other brands, I found a pretty decent price on this Dell Inspiron 17" and if I knew it would not die on me in a few years, I'd rate it five stars. It's sleek in performance, design, and the larger screen is great for my spreadsheets.

|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5I have had this computer for a few weeks now and so far it has been great. For deal for the money. The hard drive has the right amount of storage space and speed. There is plenty of memory. I have no complaints so far for as long as I have owned this computer.

Second Masters
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5My wife is starting back to school for her second masters in teaching and I wanted to make sure she had a good computer that could keep up. She won't travel with it much so having the bigger screen and extra weight is not a problem. I have a second screen hooked up for her in her office and I feel confident this has all the features she will need to do well

Q: QuestionIs this new or a refurb?
Asked by Maco.
- A:Answer according to the listing it had better be new. Best Buy could get in a lot of trouble if they don't include the previously owned or refurbished in the main listing. If you search for refurbished or previously owned you will see others that have that listed in the main listing line.
