  • Key Specs
    • Processor Model: Intel 6th Generation Core i5 (Your computer's processor is like its brain. Working in combination with system memory, the power of the processor determines the complexity of software you can run, how many programs you can have open at the same time, and how fast those programs will run. Most computers feature an AMD, Intel or Snapdragon processor.)
    • Storage Type: SSD
    • Total Storage Capacity: 256 gigabytes
    • System Memory (RAM): 8 gigabytes (Random-access memory (RAM) is a computing device's short-term data storage, which allows active information to be accessed quickly. The size and type of RAM determines how efficiently the device can handle large amounts of information at one time. For example, gaming or video editing requires more RAM for optimal performance.)

Desktop & All-in-One Computer Buying Guide

  • Windows 10 Pro: Built for business. Protect your data with enterprise-grade security, login from any device anywhere, and boost productivity with powerful management tools.
  • 6th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-6500T processor: Smart quad-core, four-way processing performance. Intel Turbo Boost Technology delivers dynamic extra power when you need it, while increasing energy efficiency when you don't.
  • 8GB system memory for advanced multitasking: Substantial high-bandwidth RAM to smoothly run your games and photo- and video-editing applications, as well as multiple programs and browser tabs all at once.
  • 256GB solid state drive (SSD): While offering less storage space than a hard drive, a flash-based SSD has no moving parts, resulting in faster start-up times and data access, no noise, and reduced heat production and power draw on the battery.
  • 6 USB 3.0 ports maximize the latest high-speed devices: The USB 3.0 ports are backward-compatible with USB 2.0 devices (at 2.0 speeds).
  • Next-generation wireless connectivity: Connects to your network or hotspots on all current Wi-Fi standards. Connect to a Wireless-AC router for speed nearly 3x faster than Wireless-N. Gigabit LAN port also plugs into wired networks.
  • Bluetooth 4.1 interface syncs with compatible devices: Wirelessly transfer photos, music and other media between the desktop and your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or MP3 player, or connect Bluetooth wireless accessories.
  • Additional ports: Microphone and headphone jacks.

Q: Hello I don’t see a vga slot in the pictures but someone that I know bought one a few months back and it has it. Is there still a vga slot available on this desktop?

A: Typically no and you would have to do a custom add on through Dell's website, you however can get an adapter off Amazon for pretty cheap ($10 US) that will do the trick for either displayport to VGA, HDMI to VGA, or USB to VGA

Q: Alright I've got a few questions here. 1. How old is it 2. How well can it run various pc games (at the stated RAM capacity of course) 3. To what extent can it be modified and and parts switched out

A: You technically could game on this in a very VERY limited capacity. The hardware is worth while but you have no GPU and would be reliant with the on board graphics through the CPU/MoBo. I would say if you're looking for something like this the CPU and the SSD (because it should be m.2 based on form factor) it's really not worth the price. You can get newer for same cost as far as those 2 parts go. Building a machine would be a better decision if that is your concern, which go to pcpartpicker.com and use either Linus Tech Tips, BitWit, or JayZTwocents for a good idea on building a budget gaming rig. The machines through best buy and Dell have to cut corners on certain areas to maximize profits, plus you'll over spend vs buying through ibuypower or something along those lines (However be aware of their Powersupplies and standard SSD's as they both have severe failure rates)

Q: Description states “Connect to a Wireless-AC router for speed nearly 3x faster than Wireless-N. Gigabit LAN port also plugs into wired networks.”. So why was a usb 2.0 wireless 802.iin Dongle shipped with the computer?

A: because it's cheaper. Wireless may have a faster speed in some cases, but you will suffer from latency and packet loss so there are going to be times that it's just not worth it. If you can always do wired connection, if you have to do wifi get something more recent. They're cheap and you can get them from a list of vendors like amazon or wal mart for a fraction of what you would pay at best buy

Q: We have a USB to VGA adaptor already and an HDMI to VGA adaptor. Wanted to make sure it could handle 2 monitors

A: The CPU is what will be reliant upon and yes it can. I deploy these versions of optiplex's to clients frequently. For basic office use or minimal function (Watching youtube/netflix/hulu, data entry, etc) these will work just fine. The older CPU does mean you need to update the firmware as it will have the spectre/meltdown intel vulnerability. Also be sure to check for drivers with your USB to VGA adapter as some only work in 2.0 slots and others are heavily reliant on 3.0 slots.

Q: Can this machine support dual monitors and if so how can they be connected?? Can they be connected using an HDMI cord and a USB? Is the item returnable?

A: Hello Joey! This has one HDMI, so you can use that for one of your monitors. For the second, you will need an HDMI to USB or HDMI to DisplayPort adapter. I recommend reaching out to Best Buy Customer Care directly for information about returning this item.

Q: How do I connect wirelessly to my router?

A: How do I get to a screen so that I can inter my router information to allow connection thru the router?
