A: There is a fee. You can pay monthly or yearly (yearly is cheaper) and it ranges from $5/mon to $30/mon. I use it for $5 since I just need it for starting the car.

A: I just dropped off my car for an install. I opted for everything including the alarm system but as far as just dronemobile you would need something like a compustar remote starter which sells for $300 at best buy unless you have the the total tech support plan. $300 for the remote starter with one button and $150 for dronemobile so $450 plus labor would be what your looking at. Alarm kit addon is $100 more and if you want to upgrade the remote it ranges from $60 and up.

Q: Can I use this only for the gps tracking a car only

A: Yes I use it on my 1997 Camry and 2013 Nissan Sentra jus for gps just for keeping track on my kids while their off in scho

Q: Will this work on Diesel engines ?

A: drone mobile is just an add on to an aftermarket remote start, idatalink, viper. etc. so you have to make sure your aftermarket remote start supports both. refer to idatalinks website and fill in your information on your specific vehicle. i have done three aftermarket remote starts with drone mobile, no diesels yet, but have used the hc series on the remote starts and all have worked with drone mobile. idatalink supports literally thousands of different vehicles so i would start there if there hc series.

Q: how do I know this will work with my existing remote start? Also, if I only want the remote start (phone) with no GPS or other features is there still a subscription needed?

A: It will work with certain remote start units only. Without knowing what unit you currently have it would be hard to say. Stop in at your local best buy store and an installer there would be able to let you know for sure. There will always be a yearly fee with any cellular style device as there is a sim card similar to a cell phone that needs service for it to function. The yearly plans are cheaper without GPS tracking.

Q: Can Geek Squad install this in conjunction with the Compustar Remote Starter system if I bought them both at the same time?

A: Most likely, yes. I had a old compustar remote system that wasn't compatible when I added the drone system. I ended upgrading to a newer system that works with it perfectly. I think the best answer is to ask your technician when scheduling so they can block the time for you correctly.

Q: I just received this drone module in the mail. All that was in the box was a module and a wire. I thought that this was a complete package system. All-inclusive. Is everything needed for the system bought separately?

A: Unfortunately, the DRONE MOBILE is just that a Add-on Module to a Remote Starter System such as "Compustar" or "Viper" Car remote starter that will run you about $340-600 depending what remote system you chose. The Drone allows your existing remote starter to work over the internet using an App on your phone or watch. Hope this helps. I Purchased the base Compustar system and it works great with the additional Drone Mobile setup. Take Care.

Wow they’ve come a long way!
I had the older DroneMobile devices years ago and they had some issues, and after not needing them for a few years because my other vehicles had there own version of cell apps I’ve come back to DroneMobile and it’s so much better! The response time is fabulous! Now if they can somehow get it to do voice commands that would be over the top. Team DroneMobile keep up the great work.

I really wish I would've bought this sooner. I had a remote starter on my VW for about 2 months now installed at best buy that used my OEM key fob. The range was useless unless my key fob was in direct line of sight of it. I bought this and it took 5 minutes to install. I now have unlimited range and its awesome. I could be in the back of Walmart and start my car from there no problems. There is also maybe a 1 sec delay but other than that, I recommend this.

Notifications don't work consistently
I recently had a compustar remote system and alarm installed on my truck. I purchased the drone thinking this would be a great upgrade, I really wanted notifications regarding the alarm when I was inside of buildings or far away from my truck. The app itself looks good and is easy to use. I can remote start, lock, unlock, arm, locate, and see a history of what has happened with my truck. That functionality works fine. Notifications have been practically non existent since the start. I tried to set the app up on my iPhone and my android phone, and I get the same results on both platforms. I contacted their support, and two days later I get a response that they reset my account. The app started sending notifications consistently for about 3 hours before logging itself out and going back to not sending any notifications. I tried rebooting, reinstalling, clearing cache, force stop, logging in and out and I get nothing. I contact support again, and a day later they tell me they enabled more notifications, which resulted in about 3 engine on/off notifications until it stopped again. Support tells me now that they escalated my ticket. The key selling point for me was notifications on my phone, and that is completely unreliable. I also have to keep logging in to use the controls. They took my money for a subscription to an incomplete product. It's clear looking at the app store reviews that there is an issue, and Firsttech does not seem to be addressing it. If the problem doesn't resolve soon, I will likely ask for my money back. It's a shame, because the remote start and alarm are awesome, but the app to use this device is practically useless.
