Great movie. Directed by the legend himself, Clint Eastwood & produced by Steven Spielberg, this movie is amongst the ranks of Saving Private Ryan. Tells the story behind the famous flag raise photo on Iwo Jima and the soldiers who fought to get it there. Awesome battle scenes and emotionally charged. A must watch for WWII fans. Also, got it fast. Early in fact.

This is the story behind the photo of the 6 men who raised the American flag over Mount Surabachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in WW2. As a powerful inspiration to war sick Americans, the photo becomes a symbol of the Allied cause. The 3 surviving flag raisers, are sent home to help raise funds for the war effort. During WW2 the American war chest was getting empty as the buying of War Bonds by the American people slowed down. So a campaign was launched using the photo of the Flag Raising at Iwo Jima. Now the three surviving men in the picture, Doc Bradley, When the 3 men arrived they learn that the story the government released to the press is full of inaccuracies, causing them to be at odds with their own personal realizations that thousands of real heroes lie dead on Iwo Jima, and that their own contributions to the fight are only symbolic and not deserving of the singling out they are experiencing. Through flashbacks we see the lead up to the flag raising, especially the bloody fighting on Iwo Jima. "Flags" is the companion piece to "Letters From Iwo Jima", both directed by Clint Eastwood. "Flags" did not fair as well with the critics nor in the box office as "Letters", which was filmed from the Japanese point of view.

Clint Eastwood’s part one of the Iwo Jima battle, which is one of the most bloodiest WW2 battles of all time, and possibly the bloodiest battle of the Pacific Campaign.
