I bought this unit because it would give me an opportunity to insert SD cards for maps outside the US when I travel. I recently traveled to South Africa and sure enough popped in the SD card and I was on my merry way. The unit worked well but fell short in some ways. My old Tom-Tom gave speed, direction, distance to go, estimated time of arrival, lane highlighted, etc were all displayed on screen - very handy to have all this info readily available.
Unfortunately, this Garmin Nuvi does not give all that info on screen. Toggling to get the needed information is cumbersome, confusing and dangerous especially in unknown territories. Don't even attempt it at night! You will have to decide what on screen information is most important before you head out. However, a good unit for a beginner!
A:AnswerThe nüvi 56 does not include the required traffic receiver cable to receive traffic updates; however, one can be added as an accessory purchase.
The nüvi 56 comes preloaded with mapping that covers the U.S. and Canada, whereas the nüvi 57 only covers the lower 49 states.
The nüvi 57 includes the foursquare and direct access features. We recommend visiting the Garmin website for more information on these as well as to use the comparison tool for a side-by-side comparison.
