awful. waste of time and money.

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

i recently got rid of cable and only have internet since we rarely used it and it was a waste of money monthly, not to mention Verizon is not good with billing and it was just a headache every month to deal with. I bought a rocketfish flat panel "cheapo" antenna for $14.99 on sale, and it worked pretty decent, and I got about 12-15 channels, including the major networks like cbs, nbc, fox, etc. was happy. I went to best buy and was looking for a nicer looking, pricier, "better" antenna. the salesman steered me to this one. I was excited. I got home, connected everything, and reprogrammed my Samsung. awful. 2 channels. moved it around, same thing. eventually after 2 hours of positioning and rescanning, I got about 8 channels. fox 5 is the only channel that was worth having. the other 7 were channels I never heard of, showing some of the worst tv programming ive ever seen. totally unwatchable. don't waste your money. this is a complete waste. for $69.99, you think it would get at least the same channels as the $15 rocketfish one. don't buy this. don't even think twice. absolutely terrible. GE should be ashamed of themselves. oh, and im less than 25 miles from NYC in central NJ. 23.6 to be exact. this was rated for 60 miles. total lie. I put the antenna in my 2nd floor window, with a clear view of nyc's lights in the background. no trees, buildings, etc blocking the antenna reception.

      Needs ears

I have purchased 4 powered indoor atennas in the last 6 years (2 have gone bad). My experience using any of them in a metropolitan area is that the adjustable ears are just better. I have purchased 2 that didn't have the extendable antennas for the looks, including this model, and they don't do the trick. In my experience, the antennas that have the adjustable antennas (bunny ear look/style) work better. I bought this to replace a broken living room TV antenna and it didn't work well where it was located. I ended up placing this one in my bedroom (works good in a different placement) and my bedroom antenna with adjustable ears in the living room and now all TV's work. I didn't return this one because it was only $30 on sale and it does look nicer than most of the antennas out there. That's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is that it looks nice, and if it is placed in a location with good signal it will work. I would not recommend this product however. I would either get a less fancy looking one with similar range or get a better model.

        Tech Support

Hello Kewball, thank you for your review. We apologize that our product did not meet and exceed your expectations. As the manufacturer, we continuously strive to maintain high quality products that provide complete customer satisfaction.

You are correct; the number of channels you receive will depend on the signals provided by your local stations in your area. This is something we have no control over. You can use to look for the DTV reception maps to determine the available stations and location of the broadcast towers in your area. Then position the antenna where it is facing toward the tower. To ensure you receive the maximum number of channels you may want to experiment re-positioning the antenna. For best antenna reception the ends of the antenna must me fully extended. Place the antenna as high as possible or near a window. Make sure to scan your TV for channels. This is a very important step. Your TV will NOT receive signals from the antenna without doing a channel scan. If you continue to receive poor TV reception, the antenna may be over amplifying the signal. Switch the amplifier to OFF position and rescan your channels.

      Disappointing performance

      • My Best Buy® Elite Plus MemberElite Plus Member

First of all, I do not see how in this day and age we seem to be able to pull in fewer channels with thus better technology than we did with good old rabbit ears. Perhaps my experience is just different than others. I just don't know. This amplified antenna is rated for 69 miles. I am unfortunately unable to pull in the channels I want, the local NBC, CBS and Fox stations specifically. These stations are less than half the distance from me than the max range listed on this antenna. It also feels flimsy to me, with a very thin combination power/"coax" cord. I am in Florida so there aren't mountains. Yes, there are trees in my neighborhood but if this technology can't get through some trees, I'm not impressed. I did give it two stars because it did give me a handful of channels, just not the ones that were most important to me. This might work for some who are in the most ideal of locations, but it did not work for me. I will be returning this item and look for a new solution.

Works quite well for an indoor antenna

I now have three of these HD antenna. The first one I purchased was to test it out, get a feel for how well it did or did not perform. Well after I got it home and hooked up, I was convinced it would provide adequate service. I subsequently purchased two more and have since purchased one for my step daughter. There are a few concerns I have with it, however. The first is it does not pick-up all the digital channels. You have to move it around to get ABC, then it drops one or two of the other channels. I also do not like the wires. and my last concern actually relates to the first, which is that since you have to move the antenna around to get some channels, the design should be more conducive for that. So instead of flat, with no ability to rotate easily the design could be modified to accommodate the need to move around. However, I am happy with the way I have decided to set it up since I do not care to keep getting up to move it whenever, I want to watch ABC or ION.

      Does what i Expected

I finally cut the satellite cord with Direct tv. I subscribed to the Sling tv app on my tv. for $40, but they didn't have local channels. So i purchased the Ultrapro 400 antenna. After it scanned it said i was getting 54 channels. But you have to keep in mind, they are mostly garbage channels in SD, not HD that i never even watched before with cable. All my 7 local channels came in beautiful HD just like direct tv. Thats all i was really concerned about. The rest of the live tv channels i like are all on my Sling tv. I probably should have stuck with a cheaper antenna since like i said, only 7 channels are really viewable, so i'm rating this only 3 stars because it is very overpriced for 7 viewable channels that i'm pretty sure would have came in just as good with a $19 antenna. Just keep in mind when ppl say 40 and 50 channels, how many will really be viewable in HD. SD should not even exist anymore. so don't expect too much.

      Unacceptable Performance

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

Upon setting this antenna up and running my TV's channel scan I found that, despite being 10 miles from a mid-sized city with no terrain features to block my signal, this thing could only find, at best, 5 channels, zero of which were any of the major networks that I actually want to watch. While moving the unit around to experiment with different positions I found performance dropped further, sometimes finding only 2 channels. Of the channels the antenna DID find, the signal would only hold for no more than 5-10 seconds before being dropped, regardless of which channel I was watching. I feel that, given my location, I could at least expect it to find the standard local channels, all of which are well within the advertised range. Because it can't accomplish even that I find this antenna to be almost useless and will continue searching for a different product.

      Good antenna

I purchased this antenna to attach to a TV my wife wanted in a room she uses for her painting. It set up very easily onto a Vizio HDTV unit that I'd attached to a wall mount and the set up to get our available local channels was pretty easy. The quality of the reception, both HD and non-HD has been quite good. Now, that particular TV was in a room about four or five feet from a large window on the front of our house. I tried later to hook it up on the Sony TV in our living room, probably a good twenty-five feet from the back of our house and available windows, it couldn't get a good signal, just too much distance from the windows. I have used it in another couple of rooms with good success.

      Not so good for me

Ever since cutting the cable some four months ago I've been on a quest to find an antenna that works for me. I say it that way because although I'm within 25 miles from our local network transmitters, I live in a hilly area with a lot of trees. To add insult to injuries my tvs are on the South East side of the house and the transmitters are on the North West side of the house. Having said that, I've tried antennas costing over $100.00 which performed no better than the GE UltraPro Bar. For better or worst, my 9 year old GE amplified antenna with rabbit ears has worked better than any of the "modern antennas" I've tried so far.
