Q: Are the paper trays independent
A: There is only one paper tray on this model and it is on the bottom. The front does not pull out to accommodate paper. On the bottom tray it does adjust for different paper sizes.
Q: can I print from any smart phone or just apple
A: You can use the ePrint and AirPrint functions of this HP Printer. Should be able to use any SmartPhone that has the ePrint app.
Q: Does it need all cartridges installed, or with toner, to work?
A: When you purchase and printer it comes with with cartridges with about 50% of ink. and if yellow, of magenta, cyan are empty then you can only print b&W.
Q: How much are the printer cartridges for this machine?
A: I paid $57 for black and the three colors were $73 each.
