If Apple made a Windows PC...
||Posted .If Apple made a Windows PC, it might look something like the HP Spectre x360 13. Design: This laptop is made from unibody aluminum, which makes it look and feel very "premium." Most of the body is a matte sandblasted silver color with a few chrome accents. It's super thin and light, about the same size as the new MacBook Pro. Side bezels are very thin, while top and bottom are more typically-sized. Overall fit and finish is impeccable, and would have been unthinkable of HP only a few years ago. I am very impressed. Display: The 1080p IPS panel is vibrant enough, if a little yellow. It's not the brightest thing ever, and is prone to reflections, especially when using it flat on a table (in tablet mode, for instance). This generation reintroduces the digitizer for active styluses. In particular, HP has chosen to use N-Trig technology, meaning the included HP Active Stylus is interchangeable with Surface pens (tested). The pen is on par with the Surface pen in terms of accuracy, latency, and pressure sensitivity. Palm rejection is good and multi-touch finger input is smooth and accurate. Performance: Obviously, this is a dual-core low-power Core i7. It's fine for basic web browsing, YouTube playback, and word processing. It struggles to keep up in 3D CAD software and photo editing, but that's not a typical use case for this product, anyways. 8GB of RAM is appropriate as well, since this is not meant to be an extreme performance machine. The Intel HD 620 graphics are plenty for driving a 1080p display under non-gaming loads. Do not expect to do anything besides the most basic gaming on here. 256GB SSD is also fine for this use case. In summary, the performance is nothing special, but that's what you'd expect. Keyboard and trackpad: The trackpad is very wide, which takes some getting used to. However, the palm rejection is very good so it's fine when you're typing and dragging your hand over it. The clickpad is accurate enough and satisfying to press. Standard Windows 10 gestures work fine. The keyboard is phenomenal for what it is. The keys have very little travel and still manage to be satisfying. I'm used to mechanical keyboards, so that says a lot. The tactile response is crisp and the keys are balanced very well. One downside is that there's this row of function keys (home, end, etc.) on the right edge that makes the rest of the keyboard offset and slightly awkward to type on. Once you get used to it, it's perfectly fine. Backlighting is acceptable in a dark room. In a bright room, you'll want to turn them off to increase the contrast of the letters on the silver keycaps. The Fn key layer can be reversed (so that F1, F2, etc. are default and special functions require the Fn key) in the BIOS, so no complaints there. Ports: 1 USB-A 3.0, 2 USB-C/Thunderbolt, 1 3.5 mm audio. You'll probably need dongles. Interesting features: Windows Hello is genuinely useful and convenient. The 360-degree hinge is also useful. I'm typically a traditional laptop user and was initially skeptical of alternative form factors. However, I'm totally convinced now that 2-in-1s are the way of the future. Bang and Olufsen speakers sound pretty good; was not expecting that. Power: Charging is done via the two USB-C ports. The included charger is compact and comes with a Apple-style interchangeable extension cord and a folding prongs. Battery life is great, given the combination of Kaby Lake and a 1080p display. I've been getting about 9-10 hours of real-world use (20-25 Chrome tabs, Spotify, and some office software). Other quirks: The HP logo on the display is copper, despite the rest of the computer being all silver. Not sure if that was a mistake in early production or intentionally. Either way, it adds a nice bit of flair. It comes with a nice leather sleeve, even though it's not mentioned anywhere. That was a nice surprise. The cardboard box that you pick up in the store actually has another box inside it, surrounded by foam. That was strange, but it doesn't really matter. Estimated time remaining for the battery level is disabled by default, but can be enabled in the BIOS. 10/10 would recommend.

Great Surface Pro 4 replacement
||Posted .I initially set out to get a surface pro 4. when i did the price comparison between this one and the surface pro this was a no brainer. HP includes everything you would need in the box, including the pen. By the time i finished paying for the surface pro accessories I would have paid for the low end surface book. This computer it better equiped with is 7th gen I7 processor, 8gigs fo ram, and 256ssd. Compared to the 6th gen I5 of the surface pro and missing accessories. the screen is good, but the surface screen is better. i chose this one for the price and the more updated hardware.

Great so far, except for fading dark screen
Posted .I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks and haven't used it for anything too intense yet. Mostly browsing and office applications. But, the screen on mine fades slightly dark at the top inch or so. This doesn't seem to change with brightness. I went back to the store to compare the floor model to the 15" model next to it, and I can see the fading on that 13" version as well. It annoys me enough to want to take this back. I assume it's and issue with all of them since I've seen it on two different laptops.

Runs hot
||Posted .Bottom gets hot in the upper left corner where the fan blows out. I found it too warm to use comfortably on my lap & this was with basic internet surfing, not using any apps or software. That concerned me for reliability so I returned it. Too bad because otherwise, it has a great feel on the keyboard, Windows Hello works well and battery life comes close to advertised. The battery drain issue that prior models have while turned off has been resolved.

Great Value Purchase
||Posted .I purchased this laptop for school use as I'm going for software development and this was a highly recommended laptop by quite a few people. So far, this laptop has far exceeded my expectations. I'm used to using a Macbook Pro and I don't feel the build quality is a step down at all on this laptop. The trackpad of a Macbook is tough to match, but the Spectre gets remarkably close. With the integrated graphics, I wasn't expecting much of anything for gaming performance, but this has been a pleasant surprise. I've played Guild Wars 2 (low graphics settings), World of Warcraft (med-low settings), and League of Legends and they have all ran very smoothly. It does get pretty warm in the top left corner by the USB port and the fan noise picks up, but nothing that makes me worried or bothers me at all. Getting this on clearance was a steal and I couldn't be happier with my purchase so far. I've you're looking for a top notch laptop for school use, this is definitely worth a look.

Great 2 in 1 laptop.
||Posted .I bought this computer after 3 visits of viewing it and trying it out in the store display at best buy. I made sure to try everything I could up front such as folding it over so it would become a tablet, using the HP pen and bamboo pen to see how fast it responded, and trying out some games and other apps all at once to see how fast it was. I was impressed by it. the computer is very fast as it is a i7 gen. It has very good picture quality and a great speaker. I thought the face recognition feature was cool. The keyboard feels very light and smooth to touch and I can appreciate how you can light up the keyboard if needed. It comes with an HP pen which is light and just as good as getting a bamboo pen if you wanted to compare. While I was worried about how reviewers suggested it had overheating issues it turned out that I did not need to worry. While it may feel hot at times the fan cools itself down if you give it a moment. Just to be safe when I purchased the computer I also bought a small and light flat fan surface that you can place under the computer when you are doing some heavy use of apps or movies and all. Overall great computer! would definitely recommend. I use it for both work and school and it hasn't disappointed. Have had no issues so far and I am happy with my purchase.

The Windows of MacBooks!
||Posted .I feel as if this is the Windows version of a MacBook. I have a MacBook Pro and this is what I would imagine the windows version would be like. Premium quality, great graphics, amazing sound (Bang & Olufsen). The fact that I can use the touch screen makes me want to use this more than my Mac. Great laptop! The only thing that I find annoying is that the display seems alittle yellow. But I'm sure there's a way to get into the settings and change it.

Q: QuestionThe late 2016 of this same laptop have a battery drain issue when it is completely shut down. Does this 2017 model have the same issue?
Asked by Mehmet.
- A:Answer I have the new 13-AC013DX (8GB/256GB) model with the active pen. I have tested it for 12 hours. So far I dont see a battery drain when its shutdown. One thing I noticed though. Although the battery remained at 100% after I restarted the computer after 12 hrs, the battery did drop to 95% after 15 mins. I hope to expand the testing to 24hrs and see how it goes.

Q: QuestionIs the pen the only differentiating feature when comparing this model (13-AC013DX) to the 13-W013DX? Same bezel sizes, specs, performance, etc?
Asked by Jeff.
- A:Answer As far as I can tell, yes. I bought a 13-W023DX (the 16/512 config as opposed to the 8/256 config) last week and exchanged it yesterday for the 13-AC023DX once I found out about the added pen capability. From everything I can tell, the specs apart from the screen digitizer and included pen are identical. One thing I did notice though is that my W (no pen) model came with a Toshiba SSD, whereas the AC (pen) model has a Samsung PM961 SSD which is faster. That may not be because of the change from W to AC though, I know manufacturers sometimes change the SSDs in certain models anyway). It's also worth pointing out that the specs listed on the box of my 13-AC023DX mentioned NOTHING about a pen or digitizer, only "touchscreen." However, sure enough the pen (and AAAA battery) were in the box.

Q: QuestionIs the pen an active stylus?
Asked by kitkat.
- A:Answer Yes it is. It uses N-Trig technology just like the Surface products, and ink works as well as it does on the Surfaces. In fact, you can use the Surface pen with this Spectre, and vice-versa you can use the HP pen on a surface.
