    Great for Amateur Radio Use

I purchased these as "open-box" from Best Buy's eBay storefront, as the local BB didn't have the OB units in stock. My intent for these speakers is a little different than most folks', I imagine - I wanted to use these as external add-on speakers for my two amateur radio transceivers, since the built-in speakers on both units leave much to be desired. I didn't want to spend a lot, and while I had tried CB radio speakers, they didn't quite have the tonal quality I was looking for. I connected the Insignias with some spare speaker wire hooked up to 1/8" stereo plug-to-screw-terminal adapters (the + side of the wire goes to the L terminal, the - side of the wire goes to the ground terminal). Lo and behold, they work great! It's much easier to discern voices over the air that I was having trouble with before; I was concerned that the tweeter might introduce too much background hiss, but these speakers sound great. As I only needed one speaker for each radio, the set of 2 was a great value, especially as an "open-box" buy - these are just like brand new. Just to test them, I did hook them up to my Insignia mini shelf system, and while they didn't have the fullness of the system's original speakers, they sounded pretty good - nice crisp highs and warm mids, albeit with less bass response. I can only wonder how they would do after a break-in period. I can't comment on how they would stand up to the outdoor environment, but they are pretty solidly constructed. All in all, if you're looking for an all-around decent-sounding utility speaker, check these out!

Seeing the price of these speakers, I kept my expectations well in check. To be honest, I expected these speakers to sound like a cheap boombox, but this in NOT the case at all. They sound very good! There is no emphasis on any particular frequency, the response is smooth, and these little speakers can produce pretty good sound levels with high quality of sound, especially when you use a good source to drive them. Of course, with frequency response starting at 90Hz there is no real bass to speak of, but whatever little "bass" they do produce is well controlled and actually pleasant to listen to. These speakers are not boomy and they will not cause your ears to hurt from ear-piercing highs or mids. I like these little speakers so much, I think I will get another pair to better balance the sound in the backyard. This really is a "best buy". Get them! At this price it's impossible to go wrong.

These speakers are exactly what you pay for (actually better than what you pay for). 40 bucks is a very reasonable price to pay, I purchased them due to my old speakers breaking, have had them a few seasons now and really enjoy the sound by the pool side. The sound is reasonable even on my deck which is about 60' away. Due to the volume having to be up I'm purchasing a second set for the deck since they are the deal of the day for half price. I have a complete bose system powered by an Onkyo reciever #also a split system using an old Pioneer quad for music on the main 4 speakers# and wouldn't even attempt to compare nor would I compare it to my bose 601 system. But for a total of 60 bucks my yard will be filled with sound which is of an average quality. Don't expect high definition for 40 bucks, but I don't think you would be disappointed in what you get. For the price I'm not to worried if the basketball from the pool breaks one since I think I have already gotten my 40 bucks worth.

I had a central speaker on an entertainment center go out and needed a quick fix. This set was the cheapest acceptable set I could find. I’m only using one but it’s loud enough. Had to play with the settings to help it blend into the system. With the sound I’d like to use them on their own and may in the future. Also because of their sound I may swap out L-R channels or surround sound speakers of my entertainment system to see how they’ll work. I haven’t used as a set yet which I lament and haven’t tested the “indoor/outdoor” capability. Good enough sound and straight forward integration makes this set of speakers a potential for any sound/media setup you can dream up

I have to start out by saying that I haven't hooked these up or listened to them yet so can't judge the sound. I'm not expecting that much as these will go on a small mini-stereo system, but I have to get someone to do some hole-drilling in the wall where I want these speakers mounted before I hook them up. I'm sure they will sound better than the cheap speakers that came with the Sony minni-stereo so if they wind up sounding even better, I'll be delighted. I expected to see the speakers in the box but not the wall mounts with included hardware, so that was a nice surprise. These seem very durable and will be very easy to hook up. They were nicely packaged and were delivered to me by Best Buy without problems, since they were out of stock in the local store. For what these are I think you will be very pleased, too.

I wanted to add satellite speakers to my bathroom as part of a whole-house project, but did not want to do in-ceiling speakers since I have a vapor barrier in that ceiling. These were the right size, and I wasn't too concerned about how they would sound. What a surprise when I first turned them on! The highs are crisp and clear, mids give lots of detail, and the bass was more than I expected. I have them corner loaded at the end of the long run of the room, which obviously helps with the bass, but the mids were where I was most impressed. The much-welcomed added benefit is, my wife agrees with me on the choice!

Junk-you get what you pay for (and less). These have no bass and do not take very much power. On the other hand, if sound quality rivaling the worst pair of computer speakers you've ever gotten to hear is your entire goal, then these are five stars. My reference point for speakers of this size are Radio Shack Minimus 7 speakers from the 1980s-1990s, which are a -superior- buy to these if you can find a used pair someplace. Potential uses: paperweights, footballs, surround sound speakers for a poor-quality home theater, noisemakers for those times when you need some type of sound to surround you but do not care if the sound is of a high-quality (i.e. you need a noisemaker, not a loudspeaker, nor a speaker).

I bought a pair or these to provide music for a Christmas light show in our front yard. After a little fussing with my equalizer they sounded very impressive. I played mostly smooth jazz holiday music and the pianos, saxophones, and vocals were very bright and clear. My neighbor didn't believe me when I told him that they are the cheapest outdoor speakers that you can buy at Best Buy. They will only play down to 90Hz so there was not an issue of bass frequencies bleeding into our neighbors houses (perfect for our application). You can't rock a house party with them but they are perfect for providing good quality ambient audio.
