Q: I see conflicting comments regarding whether or not the remote will work for videos on iPhones. Will the remote work when using an app to shoot a video like for Facebook Live or Tic Tok, etc. on an iPhone and/or iPad?

A: Returned the Joby remote shutter release to Best Buy because the remote will not stay linked to my iPhone. Tried multiple times to link it to Bluetooth. Even replaced the battery in the Joby remote shutter release. No success. Very disappointed!!!!!!

Q: How do you get the remote to operate the video on the phone? It does not turn the video on or off at all.

A: This will not work on the phone.

Q: How do you change the battery in the remote? We've tried a screwdriver and a coin and neither would work to open the remote.

A: There’s a tiny screw right next to the door on the side with all the text. In the attached photo the screw driver is pointing to it. Mine had a CR2032 battery in it.

Q: Is this compatible with the iPhone 8 Plus?

A: It doesn't stay connected to iPhone 8+. Per Joby support they are waiting for an update from Apple.

Q: Anyone know what color the LED should be? Just out of the box, mine does a very short red flash when I hold the button for a second or so...does not pair with phone. Dead battery?

A: Solved my issue...Replaced the battery and it worked fine. I guess the battery was dead or defective out of the box.

A: Tiktok does not allow the smartphone volume buttons to function as shutters, so unfortunately bluetooth remotes are not able to start/stop recording inside their app. In other apps, including the official camera app on iOS and Android, Impulse works normally.

Will not stay connected
I have a new iPhone 11 Pro and I purchased both a Joby Handypod (which is great to use) and the Joby Impulse Shutter Remote. I am having nothing but trouble with the Joby Impulse staying connected to the phone. I have done everything possible to get it to maintain a Bluetooth connection, but with no success. For the short time that I have been able to keep the connection, I can tell it would be a very useful device. Not only does it work to take photos, it works in the other modes as well, such as video, pano, slo-mo, and time lapse. I never got around to testing the range as it looses connection after a very short period of time, like a minute. I purchased it separately from the Goby Handypod and it will not attach to the Handypod even though it has a clip. But you may find it works better attached to your key ring or find another way to keep it. The Impulse is very small and discreet, which makes it convenient. It might seem to be conflicting that I would recommend it, even though it does not work for me. Let me clarify: I can see the potential of using it, for phones that it stays connected with. It just does not stay connected with my phone. So I think it is worth purchasing, but keep the packaging for return in case it does not work with your phone. If you are lucky enough for it to keep the connection, I think you will enjoy using it. But it does not work well with my iPhone 11 Pro.

Selfies and still life
This remote changes everything! Great shots and no shake! Plus, my arm no longer has to be in my selfies! I especially like using it with still lifes. No accidental shake!

Tiny but works
I am using this for my iPhone 11 Pro Max. It works well to remotely take pictures or start/stop video recording. I will say that this will not work in all apps. I have come across a couple where it did not respond. This is probably due to the app not supporting the feature of using the up/down volume buttons to actuate the shutter. It is easy to connect to your phone via bluetooth. You will have to reconnect each time you turn off the Impulse and turn it back on in you phone settings, however. I suggest turning it off when not in use to save on battery life. I do wish this would come with a much better lanyard. The one you see in the pic is small and cheap. This product is small, so I suggest picking up something to clip on to it to keep up with it.
