Q: Which amplifier would work best with this sub woofer?
A: I used the Kicker - CX Series 300W Class D Mono Amplifier with Variable Low-Pass Crossover - Black with my Kicker CompR 12"
Q: Is an amp required for this speaker, or any other subwoofer, with a Pioneer AVH-4200 NEX?

A: Its not included in the price and it varies from store to store i believe. Somewhere around 60-100 for the install plus the wire kit that you will need.
A: It's definitely 500 watts RMS. I also purchased a 600 watt RMS amp (CX600.1, certified for 675 watts RMS from factory ) paired great with this sub. Just make sure it's tuned right to feed the sub the correct amount. There's plenty of Youtube videos on how to do this with a multimeter.
