A: We bought a GE Monogram 36" induction cook top from Best Buy. It's a beautiful unit. However, the buzzing sound when a burner is on high is so loud and disruptive that the Geek Squad repair person said the sound was unbearable for him. He immediately ordered a replacement until The replacement was installed shortly thereafter and to our disappointment it made the same loud grating buzz. The range hood didn't diminish the sound. Since the Best Buy store near us sells mostly gas, not induction, their experience with the problem is not great. They were at a loss as to what to do to reduce the buzz to a tolerable level. A repair person from GE customer service came to the house as well and they were worthless. They said just live with it and couldn't be bothered to seek a solution. Living with the grating buzz is not an option so we will be swapping out the cook top for a gas one. It's too bad because we love the looks and speed of induction. We have tried a dozen different brands of pots and pans and they only make the slightest difference in buzz loudness. If anyone has solved the problem let me know.
Q: what are key difference between the cheaper version LSE4616ST and this version LSE4617ST?
A: I initially bought the 16 thinking it would suffice for my wife. As usual, I was wrong! I exchanged it for the 17 because of the following, which the wife insisted on having: the 17 has heavy duty oven racks (they are a little thicker), The 17 has one rack which slides out, the 16 does not Most importantly, per the wife, The 17 has a built in meat probe in the oven and the 16 does not. I hope this helps, Ted
A: Wow, sounds like that salesman was a real winner. He obviously doesn’t have a clue about induction ovens, shame really that he’s working in the appliance department. As to answer your question, YES it absolutely positively has an induction cooktop. I’ve used induction cooktops for many years so I’m very familiar with them & I also did a ton of research before purchasing this oven as I didn’t want to spend $3k & get stuck with something I didn’t like. Like any other induction cooktop, a burner will not turn on if the cookware isn’t induction capable (stainless steel, cast iron, porcelainized cast iron, etc.
Q: Does the depth measurement of 25" include the front door handles?
A: With my Tape measure - rear edge of the stove to front of the control panel is 27 inches - rear edge to front of oven door is about 25 1/2 inches - oven door handle sticks out from oven door about 2 1/2 inches.
Q: Can you bridge 2 burners together to make a larger one, for a griddle for example?
A: I would presume you’re referring to that feature on the GE ovens or a similar one on Bosch ovens—well, unfortunately it does NOT. My old GE oven had that useful feature & the GE Cafe induction oven I originally bought also had it, too bad the oven didn’t work—on 2 different ovens!
A: The operative word is "slightly." Best results are achieved when the magnetic field in evenly dispersed on the bottom of the pan. If the pan is too large, heat will develop concentrated within a circle, causing a dramatic heat gradient in the bottom of the pan. This might actually damage the innerds of the pan. Slightly smaller is not likely to be as bad. I have single-egg iron pans from France. They are about 1/2 less in diameter than recommended and they work fine. In general however, I would take "slightly" seriously.
Q: Do you need a hood installed with an induction range?
A: In the rear of the cooktop for the LG 6.3 cu. ft. 30 in. Slide-In Electric Smart Range with ProBake Convection, Induction, Self Clean Oven in Stainless Steel, Model # LSE4617ST is the vent trim that has vents through which the range vents into the room. It does not have the built-in feature of a fan blower like those found in range hoods or over-the-range microwave ovens. If you have a well ventilated large kitchen, a hood or microwave to vent may not be a necessity. Using a hood or a microwave mounted above it to vent is preferential. If you have an over-the-range microwave that can be Wall-Vented or Roof-vented or a hood helps to remove gasses, odors, airborne grease, smoke, heat, and steam from the cooktop surface that would make for a more comfortable cooking environment.
