    Highly immersive display

Absolutely love this display, colors look amazing and the curve after getting used to it is incredible. Text clarity is good enough, basically equal to a 1080p 24” display for reference. Matte coating is subtle but effective, the grain is hardly unless looking at a pure white image. Everything about this monitor is just perfect for any gamer.

Immersive high quality curved OLED gaming monitor

The LG UltraGear 39" OLED WQHD curved monitor is a game changer for gamers, even more so for those who have tight spaces or L-shaped desks. Prior to this monitor I was running two 32" monitors set up with a ~40 degree angle to accommodate for the long, narrow alcove where I have my gaming setup. While the overall size of the monitor is smaller than two monito combination, the 39" curve allows more flexibility in placement and makes the gaming experience much more immersive than having the two monitors with the split. In the box is the monitor, stand, power cord, USB-A to USB-B, HDMI, and DP cables. The monitor comes well packaged, and setup is simple, attach the monitor backplate to the stand base, then clip the monitor onto the backplate, and takes less than 5 minutes to fully unbox. As for ports, the monitor is well equipped with 2 x HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4, USB-C, 2 x USB 3.0, headphone jack, and power. Cord management is as expected, the base is sturdy with an overall weight of 23 lbs for monitor and base combined. The monitor has 5" of vertical travel (3.5" from desk to bottom of monitor up to 8.5"), and swivels up / down (-10/+15 deg) and left / right (+/- 10 deg) for the perfect angle. The lines on the LG UltraGear monitor are sleek, and look fantastic with both my desktop and laptop gaming setups. One minor drawback is that the monitor backlighting isn't compatible with any of my RGB gaming profile software, so there is limited customizability in colors and patterns. The LG UltraGear monitor boasts a VESA DisplayHDR 400 rating, 240 Hz refresh rate, WQHD (3440 x 1440) resolution, 275 nits, 0.03ms response time combined with G-Sync compatibility (if your hardware can drive it) and AMD FreeSync. For testing I'm pairing this monitor with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU enabling me to see the full benefits of the G-Sync compatibility. The monitor has an anti-glare coating for viewing in brightly lit rooms, which also enhances the true black feel. Playing games like Doom and Fortnite the visuals are vibrant, blacks are true, and I have seen zero latency, tearing, or stutter. A few other considerations: OLED burn in doesn't seem to be a significant concern with this monitor due to idle auto off feature and a 2 year warranty that covers the display panel. There is a 4-pole headphone jack supporting DTS X4. This is touted as 3D audio and allows a stereo headphone and mono microphone signal. I can't speak to this feature due to using a cordless headset. There is a picture in picture / picture by picture setup option. I tested this briefly with dual inputs and found that it's a neat feature so I could view two system inputs simultaneously. This may be a game changer for some. Center-display crosshairs, 4 options, providers improved shooting accuracy during gaming. Overall this is absolutely a fantastic monitor for gaming in the 1440p high definition range and the response time is blazing fast, giving an instantaneous feel to the game response. The colors feel true and the black is bold giving superior contrast. I honestly think this is a step up from two monitors due to the seamlessness of the curved display, I now see nuances that I had missed with my 1080p monitors. The only call out I have is that I'm not sure if I'll use this monitor much for work or streaming, unless full aspect ratio is supported, it's a bit awkward for long viewing sessions. Ultimately, hands down, this is my preferred monitor for all gaming activities.

    One is better than Two.

For the past week, I've been testing the LG UltraGear 39" OLED Curved WQHD 240Hz 0.03ms FreeSync and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible Gaming Monitor with HDR10. On my desk it is replacing two 27 inch gaming monitors that I used for both gaming and productivity. I have it connected to a gaming computer with an RTX4060TI graphics card via the included Displayport cable. This allows for the full 240HZ refresh rate. The first thing I will mention is that this monitor is large and has plenty of adjustability. With the stand at its tallest setting it sits 24 inches tall and at its lowest setting it is 19 inches tall. From left to right (without the curvature being factored in) it is 35 inches across. When the stand is placed against the wall the sides protrude 12 inches away from the wall. As for adjustability, the stand only holds the monitor in a landscape position and does not allow for a portrait viewing. However, it does allow for a five inch height change, a significant amount of tilt, and leveling of about half an inch. Next it eliminates many drawbacks of a two monitor set-up. With one OLED panel I didn't have to worry about panel color differences, or awkward center bezels. Screen positioning is more ergonomic because my workspace is centered in front of me and I only needed one power brick and one HDMI or Displayport cable. This makes cable and power management simpler. As for performance, the 240 HZ OLED display and 800R curve produce the most immersive and smoothest picture I have ever seen on a computer. I could not see any pixels, or bug screen effects. Backlighting was nothing short of perfection, and the brightness was fantastic. Colors were very vivid and bright. Black and dark colors were very deep and contrast was excellent. While gaming, in fast-paced games like first-person shooters and sports titles, the experience felt more natural. I was able to focus on my field of play without leaving my peripheral vision out in the cold. On high settings and G-sync it consistently stayed at 240 FPS and I didn't experience any tearing, stuttering or lag. While using this monitor for productivity tasks, I appreciated keeping my main window centered while having other applications open in my peripheral vision. The only drawback to this monitor is that there are no built in speakers, and inserting HDMIs and Displayport cables were a little difficult. With all that said I highly recommend this monitor.
