Disclaimer: I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. TLDR: I highly recommend this product. Linksys has made this one of the easiest networking products I've ever setup. It takes 5 minutes with a couple of button clicks using WPS or 5 minutes using their browser-based setup, which simply involves logging-in to your WiFI. Once setup, you simply plug it in, make sure the light shows green, and you're done! I have been using this product for over a week now as my exclusive source of wireless internet without any issue. I own a split-level home, so naturally finding a spot in my house for a single router was tough, and some rooms were left with weak or no signal, such as the basement and sections of the upstairs bedroom. I received the product and immediately scanned the instructions for the easy-setup instructions. It was as simple as this: plug in the extender, hit WiFi-protected setup on the router, hit WPS on the extender, wait for the color to turn green. Unfortunately... my device never turned green. I wasn't surprised though, as my router never seems to pair any of my devices with WPS, and is probably a fault of the router. Thus, I turned to the second set of setup instructions: browser-based setup. This method turned out to be really easy. After plugging-in the extender, I waited a few minutes and a new SSID specifically for setting-up this device popped-up. After connecting to it, I navigated to the website in the setup booklet, at which point I was instructed to select the SSID I wanted to extend, and login to it. After logging-in, I waited a few minutes while the device was setting itself up, then it turned green, and I had two new SSID's in my house, one for each WiFi frequencyI was using (2.4 and 5.0), only with "_ext" appended after the name. I left my router where it was setup (main floor at one end of the house), and moved the extender up the stairs so that I could get stronger signal in the bedrooms. I opened my WiFi analyzer to ensure I was getting a stronger signal than before, and to my delight all of my deadspots were now covered in WiFi, and the weak spots were significantly stronger. I've been using it as my sole WiFi connection in order to really test it out, and so far I haven't had a single drop in connection nor any noticeable hiccups in speed. One thing I did notice about the extender was that, like most extenders, it performs much better if it has a near direct line-of-sight to the router it is extending. When I moved the extender downstairs to get better coverage of the basement, the extended signal was not as strong if I could not see the router from the device. this is not a fault of Linksys, this is just how the technology works. However, I was impressed with Linksys' feedback mechanism (a green/amber light on the front), which makes it very easy to tell whether your extender is receiving a strong vs weak signal from your router. Despite how difficult it can be to place these devices, I firmly believe that Linksys has made it as easy as possible to find a good home for it. I did not test the audio features, as I did not have a pair of speakers to plugin and test. The plug was able to power every device you'd typically plug-in to a power socket, and I did not have any issues with the wifi while using the socket. Due to the ease of setup and how well this device has been performing, I would highly recommend this product, especially for anyone who feels uncomfortable setting up network devices. Trust me, nothing scary about this one, quick and easy setup!

Awesome wifi range extender for slow or dead spots

First of all I need to tell you that I received this product free from Linksys in order to provide my honest feedback. ########################## What's inside the box? ########################## Below you find some pictures of the actual unboxing of the product but it's really simple: WiFi Extender, Quick Reference Guide & Manual. Since the item provide an Ethernet Port (RJ45 jack), it would be nice to include an Ethernet Cable (nice extra) but I can live without it. ########################## The meat-and-potatoes: ########################## I was impressed at first sight due to Its sleek and small size. It requires one AC outlet but in the front give you another, so you don't loose anything. Configuring it was a tiny bit intimidating at first but after reading the Quick Guide everything was clear (please follow Quick Guide using your phone, laptop or PC). With my phone, I did open a web browser (any will do fine) and type in the address provided in the Quick Reference Guide. After that you just follow regular process of connecting to a Wireless Network. You will see all available WiFi networks around you. The WiFi Extender you are configuring will have their own name, so after you select your current WiFi, you have to set a name for the Extender and your current WiFi password... After this you are done and ready to enjoy your preferred drink in your backyard or terrace watching a nice movie! ########################## Testing and Notes: ########################## Before, I didn't have any signal at all in my house backyard, but after installing this Linksys WiFi Range Extender I can now enjoy watching anything in a TV connected in the same network or listening music through Spotify. Keep in my that when you are connected to your network with a low signal range, your speed is lower as well due to the strength of the signal, so after installing this thing I fix the dead spots and got better performance around my entire house! I haven't try yet the Stereo Jack on the side of the RJ45 Jack, so as soon as possible I will comeback with an update. Linksys great job! Sorry but Best Buy only allows to upload two pictures per review. I did take much more but I do not have the option to upload them.

Reliable, strong signal amplifier, dual band A+++

I will start this review by simply stating the following. The Setup: This LINKSYS RE6700 AC1200 amplifier is definitely a huge improvement over the previous models in the fine line of LINKSYS products, it's ridiculously easy to set up (No CD needed) All you need to do is unpack this unit from the box, plug it to your wall outlet and give a solid 2-3 minutes boot up time, after that, you simply log into this LINKSYS RE6700 AC1200 amplifier by entering the printed/provided login information and password (look for it on the device itself or the box it came in). It's that easy. After you do that, it will take you to the GUI (interface) and all you have to do is just provide your current-existing network (Wi-fi) credentials and boom, the new network shows up in your devices with an (EXT) name after whatever the name of your current network is. But you can also change it during the set up and name it whatever you choose it to be, and that's it, you are done and ready to surf the internet with this amplifier that provides dual band for newer and older devices (2.4Ghz- most devices use this band) and of course the amazing blazing fast 5Ghz band that if you're near your router or this LINKSYS amplifier it will provide you with a blazing speedy internet connection to browse, watch videos, or do whatever you want with that speed. I timed how long it took me to set up this device and the result for me was between 5 -6 solid minutes (booting up and configuring the network) and testing it of course. Stability/Price: The reason I'm giving it a 4 star though is because I did have to reset this device since the initial connection and set up took place at least once, for some reason it dropped my connection altogether, but then i realized my router was about 35ft away from it, and the doors were closed and my walls are very thick, so maybe that was on me, but either way, I've left my door open since that time and no drops have occurred since then, I've also push it's capacity by testing it for a up to 12 hrs with the doors closed and it doesn't drops the connection, maybe it was just a hiccup, maybe it was my router, but I'm skeptical, and if I do see at least another 3-5 drops I will definitely review my rating. The other reason I also awarded this device a 4 star rating was because of the price tag, while it's not the most expensive out there, I believe these should be more affordable, they are so helpful for every dead spot in the house that I understand why it has to be priced at the current price out there, but just a personal point of view. Range/Devices: Anyways, I've tested this with my iPad, Droid tablet, iPhone, etc, and the range is significantly expanded and consistently delivering 5 solid bars of signal throughout my 3,600sqf 2 story property, this is impressive for such a small device, and the added bonus on this device?, the outlet it has in the front saves me from using another ugly power extension, this is why I also gave it a 4 star, this is so helpful, thank you LINKSYS for thinking about that small but very important detail. On my desktop and laptop which are currently using Windows 7 and Windows 10 OS, the speeds are being delivered on point! no complaints from me there. Overall I thin this is well built device, it's solid, and I definitely see it has features not found in other current extenders and it's great alternative if you don't want to use another router as an AP (access point) or repeater. This is well worth the money but still, it'd be nice if they were a bit lower in price. Please also note I received this device sample free of cost in exchange for my unbiased honest review. Thank you, have a great day.

Disappointed for the first time with Linksys

Linksys RE6700 AC1200 AMPLIFY Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender I received this extender free for evaluation from Linksys. I was really looking forward to set it up but my work kept me away from it. Finally I was home and set it up, and to my dismay, for the first time ever I was disappointed with a Linksys product. First time when I plugged it in I was in a crammed location near my printer where I wanted better connection and was hoping to get a hard wired connection to my old XBox, and it was nearer to my wifi (which is also a Linksys product) but it showed a weak connection. I assumed it was because I could not open up both of it antennas wide. So I had to move it away to an open area, further away, with both antennas open and surely the connection worked. To make sure that it was truly a problem with the antenna, I closed the antenna at the same location and it showed weak connection. With both the antenna open the footprint for it becomes wider than I would like. I followed the setup as it suggested by connecting to the ip for setup. I set it up to use different SSID and after completing the setup, it restarted and I was able to see the new SSID but to my disappointment there was no internet connection. Restart did not fix it either. So I reset and tried again and still not luck. This was the first time ever that a Linksys setup did not work right out of the box for me. So I decided to reset and this time try to use same SSID as my wifi. The setup suggests against it, but it works that way too. With that setup, surely I was able to now see the SSID (same as my Wifi) with a stronger signal. I know it was not my wifi because I used to get only get 2 bars at that location. I connected to that wifi, and bingo, the connection worked, and it seemed fast and I was a happy camper. 2 days into my setup I soon realized an issue with my connections. Every now and then I would not get internet working or was slow. After some tinkering around I found that my connections don’t switch over from my main wifi to the extender seamlessly. So if I was connected to my extender and was further away from it but closer to my main wifi, the phone won’t switch over to my main wifi and will suffer a weak connection. Obviously with only 2 antennas v/s 6 on my wifi, it was very weak. So I had to reset my phone connection everytime for it to switch to the fastest network. Another issue I found is once I put too many devices (3 phones, Printer, Amazon Fire TV and Ipad) the connections were slow on simultaneous usage. So I turned off the extender and everything went back to normal. I tried setting up a separate SSID and it worked this time (I don’t know what was wrong first time) but then my phones and other roaming devices did not seamlessly switch over to the other SSID anyways. So again went back to using same SSID and only put two devices in that area on it and they are working fine. I have always been a Linksys user and really love their products but I am surely disappointed. I have not given up on the product yet and will keep tinkering with it. It could also be that my expectation from an extender is wrong or too much.

        Linksys Staff

        Hi, Rajkm,

This device is a good deal to extend the wireless range of the network. It shouldn’t cause the speed to drop and your devices should have internet access once you have connected them to the new SSIDs. How far is it from the router? Is the firmware updated? Try relocating the range extender and change the wireless channel of the router to isolate if this has been caused by some interference. As for the connection slowing down on simultaneous usage, this is possible as the extended network will only get half of the main network’s bandwidth. Please check the speed from the modem using a wired computer.

We appreciate if you can also tell us the make and model of the router so we can help you optimize the performance of the devices. We’re expecting to receive your response via email at LinksysCares@linksys.com along with your name, phone number, location, and the link to this post.

Faster outside with the Range Extender

      Posted
      atarisastoria

For the record, I received this product for free from Linksys in exchange for my feedback on it. I've used this product outside in my backyard (on the patio) three times now since initially setting it up, which was quite a simple process (using your existing Wi-Fi router password). I have to say I definitely notice a positive difference in range and connectivity. Without it, sometimes my reception straight from the Wi-Fi router drops and I experience internet service disruptions (connectivity problems such as pages taking too long to load or timing out). With this product I'm able to get a consistent signal. For the distance away from it that I am (approximately 15', but also around the corner of a structure), I would anticipate a full signal, and while this is usually the case, sometimes it drops one bar (this is on a laptop, so it could have something to do with the laptop's Wi-Fi capabilities too). The connection does not seem to be interrupted however, and that is the main thing. It is possible that my occasional loss of signal also has to do with the orientation I have to use when plugging the device into power. My outlets are only sideways, so I'm forced to orient it sideways. I also have a plastic protector over the outlets which then has to sit atop the Range Extender when plugged in. The sideways orientation and plastic protector may have an impact on the designed functionality of the antennae. Most people would probably not have this problem and would be able to plug it in as intended. I would advise anyone using this product outdoors to unplug it when you're done with it and bring it back inside with you until your next use. Mostly so it doesn't get stolen. Also of course to minimize exposure to weather and other potential hazards (flying debris, etc.). I'm sure it is weather-proof to some degree and designed to hold up long-term against the elements, but I like to be cautious. Unplugging it, at least from my outlets and in the orientation I have to have it (sideways) is rather difficult - you'll have to really pull to get it out. I see that as a good thing (it's not going anywhere while plugged in) and a not-so-good thing (if you're not very strong, you might have a real difficulty with this; also, there's a very likely possibility that when you do pull it, you will fall backwards or bump into something - I was pulling so hard the first time I unplugged that I actually slammed the edge of the Range Extender into the side of my house). All in all, I enjoy using this product, which ultimately improves my connection when I'm not indoors. I rate it a 4 out of 5 stars overall due to the positive benefits, but I think it could be improved by having an adjustable three-prong plug that can better accommodate sideways outlets, so that in my case, and possibly others’, the device orientation is vertical as intended, instead of horizontal.

Amazed at the performance of the RE6700. This is my first go at a Range Extender and had heard from friends that they did not have much luck in the past with the extenders. My RE6700 is installed in my detached garage and is 88’ (tape measured) from the router at the far end of my home. The signal must pass through two exterior walls as well as an interior, not to mention the gaggle of boxes and such in the garage. Before when using my phone and Bluetooth speaker to listen to music in the garage I had the best luck opening the garage doors and setting my phone on boxes close to the open door. Even that was flaky at best. Installed the RE6700, which was quite simple and straight forward and was up and running in minutes. Results: Even though the setup software suggested I move the RE6700 closer to the router, which was not happening unless I wire in a new electrical outlet, the RE6700 was cranking out both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz at a solid Five Bars. Doors closed, in all sorts of weather I am getting a steady solid 5Ghz and loving my music in the shop. I was truly amazed that picking up a one to two bar status from the router it would pump it up to Five Bars. I am part of a review group for Linksys and provided the equipment for an honest review of the product. I can honestly tell you I love this small gadget; I am no longer listening to the local junk radio stations but streaming good music. An excellent solution in the real world. Do like the electric socket pass-through as the RE6700 covers my outlet.

Linksys RE6700 AC1200 AMPLIFY Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender Just set-up and connected the new Linksys RE6700 AC1200 AMPLIFY Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender. Connecting and set-up didn't go flawlessly. Did require a second attempt and was successful after resetting unit. Linksys RE6700 AC1200 Amplify Wi-Fi Range Extender - Features: Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 (N300 + AC867 Mbps*) Spot Finder Technology – for optimal placement and performance Integrated power outlet – Flexible plug-in placement maintains use of existing wall outlet External Antenna for better Wi-Fi coverage and performance. Auto Cross Band Technology allows for the simultaneous use of both wireless bands for providing high speed data transfer to help with uninterrupted music/video streaming and gaming. Gigabit Port for connecting a single wired device or plug in a Gigabit switch for connecting multiple wired devices to a wireless network. 3.5mm audio jack allows users to connect speakers to the range extender to stream music from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Overall I am very satisfied. I placed the unit just inside our door and am now connecting just outside on our patio. The 2.4GHz signal strength is outstanding however the 5.0GHz signal falls just a little short but still performs very well. If you're dealing with dead zone issues you cannot go wrong with the RE6700. You will be saying goodbye to that nasty issue in quick order.

This extender is very easy to add range with speed to your existing Wi-Fi. Following the included easy to follow instructions I set this unit up in less than 5 minutes and a few moments to add devices to it. There is a spot finder app that is part ot the set up that shows if you placed the extender to a good location. The range is strong throughout my 2 story house and it extends signal to a couple of houses down the street. So if you need a signal to a large area this should help that helps with placement. Setup is as easy as plugging it in waiting a minute or two for a green light to stop blinking and change to solid. Connect to the Wi-Fi network: Linksys Extender Setup- (extender's Mac Address found on box or extender) Then typing extender.linksys.com in a browser and creating a password for the extender. (The only problem I had is getting back into the setup. Sometimes doesn't work. I believe it can be connected to via it's IP address, but I have not tried this as I have not needed to get back into the setup to change anything.) All my devices connect easily to this extender and I have not had a dropped signal. It says it has beam-forming to direct Wi-Fi direction. It does not have WPS to setup router connection. I have a Linksys EA 6900 Dual band AC 1900 which has a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network as well as a guest network. This extender will add 2 more networks with a _ext added to the existing name as default. This is renameable. It has a power outlet so you don't loose access to the one it uses. It has a jack for external speakers so you can stream music to it. I have not used this, but I can see someone wanting to connect sound from your network. Firmware came with v1.0.01.010 which is current. I tested my network on Gibson Research using Shields Up and I am still all stealth. Works with my PCs Macs IPods and IPads Apple TV Samsung and Sony streaming BluRays and Samsung Smart TV. I would recommend this if you are having a problem with your signal strength. Or just want to add two more networks. I received this extender as a free sample from Linksys in exchange for your honest feedback.
