Cool box set for fanboys with cheap little 'artifacts' relating to the movies. Special features were light compared to buying the movies separately which is disappointing. There is an S.H.I.E.L.D. agent code which gives you a look at upcoming marvel movies relevant to the Avengers. I believe that was added because of delay of the box set due to legal issues. It was promised to have more bonus features because of that legal setback. That struck me as shameless self promotion. Bottom line: if you don't have the movies already then i would highly recommend this box set. If you have most of the movies or all of them I would recommend passing on it.

After months of waiting, just a little over 6 months to get nit picky about it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Avengers Assembled 10 disc Blu Ray gift set is out. This was supposed to have came out at the end of September with the release of the Avengers movie but because of legal issues it was put on hold. Now that it's out and I got mine and I have to talk about it. I got to say this is one item that I'm highly disappointed in. Before you say it I know that I shouldn't expect real or top quality items but I do expect something better than a cheap toy I could get at the dollar store. Here's what the set includes. 1) A breifcase made to look like the metal one used in the movie with a light-up S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem 2) All 6 movies on Blu Ray along with Thor Captain America, and Avengers having Blu Ray 3D versions and a bonus disc 3) A light up tesseract cube 4) Files with information about some of the characters from the movie Here are all the problems this set has. 1) The briefcase is made out of a hard plastic that feels like it could break apart at any moment. The so called clapses that keep it shut are also made out of hard plastic with no give to them at all. That means if someone puts a little too much pressure on them or when it's been open enough times one and/or both clapses will break. The case looks like something that I would buy at a toy store instead of a high priced gift box set. I have better made and more realistic toys that cost nowhere near the price this thing cost. The inside of the case is just as cheaply made as the case. Holding the movies and the tesseract is a thin piece of hardplastic that they tried to make look like a electric board that has a keypad on it. Only it looks more like a black piece of plastic with holes cut into it, some painting of gold lines, and raised boxes that are barely painted to be the keypad. Worse yet, the keypad don't even move, it's all hard plastic. This thing could snap in half with ease and considering you have to pull it out to get to the battery case for the lights I have a feeling many people will find themselves with a broken board. And though the lights are cool, they are not that bright and look like they would be easy to bust. Which seems possible with the way the movies and tesseract is held in the case. 2) Ok, the price for the movies themselves is a great deal, especially considering they are Blu Ray and 3 of the 6 include the 3D version. Only if you are like me and don't have a 3D TV these will serve no purpose in your collection. But the movies themselves are not the problem, it's the way they are packaged. Each disc is put in a cardboard slipcase that will easily scratch the discs. The artwork on the slipcase is very cool but as a holder for a very expensive movie set, they are cheap and have a very high chance of damage to where you would have to have them replaced. Not only are they suscepticale to being scratched, the discs are placed at an angle in the case with the opening of the slipcases facing down where they disc can slid out. Some of the discs in mine where starting to come out of the slot that held them in the slipcase and I would say with a few more handlings they would have came out of the slipcases completely. But what disappoints me the most about these movies was that the bonus discs didn't come with them. I would rather had bonus matrial for each of the movies, more than just whats included on the main movie disc, then getting the 3D version of the movies. 3) The tesseract is the most disappointing item in this set. Where the orignal preorder pictures showed a cube that was a brillant blue cube lit up, what's put in the set is a cheap, flimsy, plastic thing that's been frosted to the point of looking like a white plastic box. It's supposed to light up by a so called lightly tapping it against your palm but in reality you have to slam it hard against your palm, hard enough to hurt your palm, just to make it light up. I decided I would not do this because with the way this cube feels so weak and flimsy, I'm afraid I'll break it. I wasn't expecting one made out of glass or acrylic, but I didn't expect it to be a box that I've seen being sold as a novelty during Halloween as a flashing box that you can buy for 5 bucks or less when Halloween is over. Ok, I actually do like the folders that came with this set and the only thing I have negative about them is that there wasn't enough of them. I would have liked files on each of the heroes that made up the Avengers. Overall, for a case that costs $150 on sale right now but with a regular price tag of $219, it's far too cheaply made to be worth it. I would have much rather spent the $50 when the first collectible gift set came out for the Avengers instead of getting this. If I had known that it was going to be made like a 20 dollar toy I would have kept my orignal Blu Ray's of all but the Avengers, bought the first gift set that came in a much cooler case and had more features. I could have built one of these cases and made it look cooler and more realistic while keeping it under the price for this plastic toy case. My advice is if you was looking to get one but was waitng to see the reviews, don't get it if you already have most of the movies or even justa few. If you don't have any of the movies and you want them, then yeah for the movies it's worth the price but don't expect to be impressed with the rest of the content of the gift set.

It was a perfect gift for my son who loves the movies. He has them now in the suitcase which he loves. There is a glowing cube in the suitcase which he loves too. The best birthday present he ever received.
