Q: Will it work without using the replaceable water filter?
A: Yes, but it does come with one.
Q: How long does it take to brew a pot of coffee?
A: I only make 4 cups which is the minimum and it takes 5 minutes.
A: I purchased both the water filters and the coffee grind basket (so no paper filter required) online from Target. The water filter is "Mr. Coffee 2 pack water filter replacement cartridges", part number 197738
A: Just confirming your experience. All of my basic Mr Coffees never broke down. I upgraded to this one and in the first 30 days it did exactly what yours did. I got a replacement from Best Buy. The replacement is at the 45 day mark and still working. Sorry to hear about your experience. I have to admit I wonder if my second one may break down also. I am in a wait and see mode. No suggestions.
A: The coffee maker shuts itself off after 4 hours or you may shut it off. However, the coffee cools without the heating plate. It is best to leave the brewer on as long there is, at least, one cup of coffee in the carafe, otherwise the remaining coffee will burn.
A: Try the manufacturer. I contacted them because I felt the carafe broke way too easily and they sent me a new one "as a courtesy" I assume they are pretty liberal with replacements if you are making a compelling argument for the failure of a unit that should have higher expectations.
