Q: Does each camera need an electrical outlet?

Q: Can these cameras be set up for continuous recording or is it by motion detection only?
A: Yes, you set up these cameras to record 24/7 (Continuous). But note, this will fill up your HDD at a much quicker pace and the DVR will automatically begin overwriting old footage when it becomes full. You can deselect this option if you would like to backup recordings to a flash drive and then manually reformat the HDD. Thanks for choosing Night Owl!

Q: Do the cameras pickup audio, and if so the distance

A: I do not know; my camera system is scheduled to be installed tomorrow Dec 9 2017. I did already speak to a customer service rep from Night Owl, though, and they are very helpful. I suggest you go to their website for the contact number and ask your question directly.
A: With few exceptions, yes you should be able to use a new DVR with existing cameras. Our AHD, XHD and HDA Series DVRs are backwards compatible. For instance, this 1080p system will function with our analog, 720p and 1080p cameras. Note: Our 3MP and 5MP systems have Class 2 cabling that must be used with those cameras. However, the BNC cabling you currently have installed will work with our DVR systems up to 1080p. Thank you!
