Q: Is this receiver turntable compatible?
A: Phono input Allows you to listen to vinyl records with excellent audio quality thanks to the high-current non-phase-shift amplification.
A: Never mind. I called Onkyo and got my answers myself. Per Onkyo there's no pre-amp in/out so no way the 901s will work. Per Onkyo, this receiver is 4 ohm safe and more than capable of driving the speakers I am interested in pairing it with (Magnepan MMGs). Thanks to Onkyo customer service for taking the time to answer me via telephone. I will not be buying a TX-8160 at BB unless they step up to the plate on a recent laptop purchase that has gone to a minor level of Hades. Regardless, this is a great receiver and BB in general have been excellent. Hoping they still are. Thanks.
Q: CAN I HOOK UP A EXTERNAL EQULIZER TO THIS UNIT
A: I do not believe you can hook up an external equalizer to this unit. There is no pre-amp I/O connections or a tape loop. The only thing that you could do is send zone 2 to an external amp. that has the connections to use an external equalizer. I could be missing something so I wold suggest calling Onkyo directly.
Q: can i use wireless speakers with the Onkyo TX-8160
A: to the best of my knowledge not directly; I purchased a Sonus package to connect to my wireless speakers and it works great!!~
Q: A and b speaker switch. Van it be a or b or can it be both?
A: It can be both
Q: does zone 2 need a separate amp?
A: Yes, you need to connect a separate amplifier to the Zone 2 preamplifier output connections to play an independent source to zone 2.
