Q: Do I need to purchase screen guard with this item? or does it come with a screen protector? because the screen is the where the damage happens when it falls.

A: no additional purchase is needed, screen guard is included , however it is not the best, decided for yourself after purchase

Q: Is there a warranty on the case? The bottom hard plastic between the charging port and the headphone port broke after about 9 months. The case is still functional but the flaps that cover those ports don't stay in place.

Great protection
I just bought a new phone and needed a case for it. With my previous phone, I had purchased a different protection layer but was told that the Otterbox was better. I opened the box and was surprised to find a protective front as well as the outer case. It was easy to put together, and I have been very gratified with it

Good protector
This is the third OtterBox product I have purchased (for different phones) and they have all done a good job in preventing damage to my phone. They also give the phone some more substance, making it easier for me, at least, to handle. I prefer the Commuter Series Case because it is not as bulky, and the phone fits more easily in my pocket.
