A:Answer You will need to set it up through the Alexa app, but you are not required to use any Echo devices or Alexa to operate the thermostat. You can use the thermostat directly to control the modes and temperature. However, it is suggested to use the app at the very least as the thermostat is very vague on information. All you will see is icons and the current temperature. So until you are used to what the different icons mean, I’d use the app.
