• A:Answer I ran into that "something went wrong" error many times when trying to use the Microsoft method of disabling S mode on my new Windows 11 Home - Vivobook. As a Linux technician, this was quite frustrating. I need to be able to install multiple browsers and Windows Sub-system Linux (from the Windows Store!) to able to work. That is not possible in S Mode. I also learned that you can't just use function keys to access the BIOS menu any longer. My 17yo daughter helped me find an accurate YouTube video to assist. First, I edited the Registry Hive Key to disable the policy that forces S Mode to be enabled. If you're not familiar - BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS IN THE REGISTRY! This gentleman (CyberCPU Tech) shows how to do that part, as well as if you are having trouble opening the Registry Editor thanks to Windows security measures: https://youtu.be/ZTWKvDF1dqI. He indicates that you may not need to do anything else in order to disable S Mode. I had to also use Windows Settings >> System >> Recovery to "Restart Now" (related to Advanced startup) in order to access the BIOS. I used the second method, "Without a Microsoft Account", even though I have a Microsoft account and was logged into it at the time. From the blue landing page, use "Troubleshoot" to see the Advanced Options to get into "UEFI Firmware Settings", aka BIOS. Once the BIOS menu opens, look at the top for the "Security" tab. On the Security tab you should find "Secure boot" enabled. Disable it, save & exit. Double check in Windows >> Settings >> System >> About to verify that S Mode is no longer present. Best of luck!

• A:Answer You should install CPU-Z to determine the EXACT RAM that is installed, as "specifications may change without notice." That being said, the one I purchased had Samsung M471A1G44BB0-CWE installed (according to CPU-Z) so that is the module I purchased. Keep in mind that the first "slot" is soldered to the motherboard and not a separate SODIMM module; attached is a photo of the matching RAM module I installed. But you can install literally any DDR4 SODIMM module (up to 16GB), and it is recommended to use the same speed (3200MHz) so you don't end up clocking down the OEM RAM.

Q: QuestionDoes the mouse pad have the weird number keys on it? I don't see it in the picture but I looked at an ASUS model at the store and that one did have it. I just want to confirm if it does or doesn't before I buy it for my high schooler.

• A:Answer Here's what happens when you turn on the numeric keypad that's built into the touch pad: 0123456789/*-% The touchpad reacts like a touch screen: tap for keypad input and drag your finger to move the mouse. I'm becoming a fan here at the store answering your question. BTW, the touchpad has a tiny white LED in upper right corner by numeric keypad on/off, so should be easy for sighted folk to determine when it's on. on/off requires a push, more than just a tap.

Q: QuestionI was wondering if it would be ok to install a new bigger SSD without cloning the original ssd. The computer is brand new and has not any additional programs installed. Could I just install windows 11 home to the new Ssd? Does this void the warranty?

• A:Answer You could switch out a new drive for the one preinstalled and download a fresh copy of Windows 11 (perhaps even 10, if you wanted to, although you would just have to update it soon after). Since the Operating System is tied to the computer, the new one would just replace the old. After the installation, you would still have to download all the drivers, either from the Asus website or the different manufacturers of the sound card, video card, WiFi, Bluetooth, keyboard, USB connectors, etc. The drive formerly in place could then be retasked as you see fit, although it probably would not be suitable to replace the C-drive in another computer unless that one had exactly the same hardware, and you most likely COULD NOT use the OS loaded on it to replace the OS on another computer.

• A:Answer I have a similar one that I bought 3 years ago, paying 4x the price (although I also opted for a separate GPU and more RAM) and can confirm that it can perform well with an external HD camera for Facebook, conferencing, etc. (although you might have to close most or all other applications). At this sale price, it's an excellent buy.
