Q: QuestionI received my brand-new whirlpool refrigerator in May 2023. I have a message in red on the refrigerator telling me to replace the water filter. I am the only person using the water and ice feature. Why is it so soon that I need to replace the filter?

• A:Answer Refrigerator water filters are supposedly made to last about 6 months. That's what the manufacturer says but it"s not going to poison you if you don't replace it at the recommended time, But it probably will become less and less effective the longer you go past those 6 months and mineral deposits could start to build up in the lines. So I would recommend you replace it no later than the 1-year mark from when you got the refrigerator/filter.
