QuestionWhy does it need its own power source?

- Answer Some electronic devices like USB-connected devices are able to run using the power from the input cable. The input to this device is an optical cable rather than a electrically conductive cable. That input cable just brings quickly-blinking light into the device, no power. So, you need power from elsewhere. It could be batteries, or it could be a power cable. In this case, the device has a power cable.

- Answer LPCM is PCM - Linear Pulse Code Modulation audio is uncompressed full quality digital audio - but just 2 channels.

QuestionCannot get this to WorkI have a Panasonic TC-L42U30 TV with an optical output. I have connected the converter but have no sound. In the instructions there is a note stating audio device's output must be changed to PCM. I cannot figure how to do that. Any help would welcomed.

- Answer We have a Panasonic TV also that only has the optical out port for sound. I have a hearing issue, wanted to have wireless headphones, and was not sure if I would be able to accomplish this but I purchased what I believe is the same Dynex converter you did and mine works fine. The way to change to PCM is in your TV’s set up. Here is the line in your manual for setting it to PCM (NTSC). “When an ATSC channel is selected, the output from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT jack will be Dolby Digital. When an NTSC channel is selected, the output will be PCM.” This is on page 38 of your TV’s owner manual. I will be glad to help more if have any further issues.

QuestionI have a 32 inch samsung smart t . I connected the converter to my stereo with the rca cables and I only get a hum. I changed the tv over to pcm and i still just get a hum. What am I doing wrong? Thank you

- Answer This adapter takes in digital signals and converts them into the red/white analog output. There is not an optical output.

QuestionWill this work on Olevia TV?I have an older TV with analog input (red/white cables) and a new Directv Genie box that is digital audio output (orange plug). Will this device solve my problem? Currently cannot get sound to come out of TV.

- Answer The orange plug is not the same as this. Optical and orange cable are different. You need to convert the analog to the orange plug and not optical.
