QuestionI don't have a fire stick. I do have Roku TV's, with Prime . Do I need to order another device to make this recorder work? I just want to record shows when I am not home. Like an old VCR.

- Answer Most any quality, external antenna will work. Wall mounted or table top works as long as you have a good signal. Otherwise, you will be able to record only Amazon programs.

QuestionPlease keep it simple. I'm not that smart. I have an older Vizeo Smart TV. I have dish network. If I buy this device, can I plug it in and just use it? Or do I need to buy a firestick (what is a firestick anyway?) & do I have to pay monthly? Simple?

- Answer Yes, you have to have a FireTV device to watch shows on the Recast. I do not pay a monthly fee for either the Recast or the Firesticks we use.

QuestionI'm looking for a device that will record off of cable television and stream programming to other tv's. I see this has a coaxial port for the antenna. Can I use it for this?

- Answer My understanding is no, the coaxial port is only to connect an OTA antenna. From the Recast FAQ- “ You can record any over-the-air live TV program that is available to you via a digital HDTV antenna connected to your Fire TV Recast. You cannot use Fire TV Recast to record live TV programs from any other source, such as cable or satellite boxes or streaming apps.”

- Answer Yes, with conditions. According to AFTV News "...after you’ve got the Recast up and running as it’s normally intended to be used with an internet connection, the device is designed to be mostly functional while temporarily offline. if your internet access goes down and you can no longer stream content from Prime Video, Netflix, or wherever, you will still be able to watch all of your local channels through the Fire TV Recast. You will also still be able to access all of the recorded content that sits on your Fire TV Recast’s internal drive or external drive".

QuestionCan this box be hooked up to work with a 4k firestick and if so how is the hookup to the 4k firestick and the recording of programs done? I new to this.

- Answer The answer can't be provided simply. You might want to ask the Geek Squad. It's simple yet not so simple. Took me two hours to figure it out. If the installation instructions were better it would have taken 30 minutes. I even called Amazon support and got somebody from outside the United States. She didn't even know the device existed...kept arguing with me that I had a Firestick. Recording is done via Amazon Firestick. When the recording device is properly installed, the menu across the top of you screen will have a new option that is labeled "DVR". From this point all recording, viewing local TV, viewing recordings, etc. is done through this. Good luck.

- Answer The Fire TV recast OTA recorder can’t access services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video etc. but, in order to use the Fire TV Recast OTA recorder you will need a Fire TV stick or iPad/tablet/smart phone with Fire TV app installed to access the content from Recast. The streaming device/app will provide the ability to stream Netflix etc.

QuestionI have a projector that I use to watch antennae tv. I don't want to record or need a tv guide. I just need a system with a tv tuner. Will this work for that and can I use a universal remote ? I want to use one remote for everything.

- Answer In order for the Amazon Recast to work you need an Antenna. An Amazon streamlining device such as a fire stick or echo show. internet service and a mobile device to download the fire tv app. To watch tv on your projector using recast, the fire stick would need to be attached to the projector and your fire stick remote does everything within the Amazon Fire stick software If all you need is a TV runner., there are cheaper ways to go.

- Answer Use the free FireTV app on any mobile device. IOS, Android. App has to be signed into the same Amazon account as the Recast. The first time you use the app on a cellular data connection, you will have to grant permission to stream over the cellular data plan
