Q: QuestionHello! Does the door come off and how thick is it? The stairs to my basement are narrow and have a turn. I couldn't fit this with 33"/27" and am trying to find out if it can be made narrower for moving it. Thanks!
Asked by Hank.
- A:Answer Hi Hank, thanks for reaching out to us. We truly appreciate you considering this fantastic chest freezer for your home and are happy to provide you with these dimensions and some guidance in moving it to your basement! The lid with gasket is approximately 3" in height and can be quickly removed to accommodate more space! Given the freezers overall height of 33.5", the freezer height will be approximately 30.5" without the lid. Since you have to make a turn in a narrow space, removing the lid will also help you prevent any damages. You can find instructions to remove and reinstall the lid on page 8 of your Use and Care Manual here: https://files.bbystatic.com/zMjcR68SkWJkrxuK7Q5B4A%3D%3D/e6e948a2-da49-45af-884d-01ab387d0a95.pdf. - It is very important that the freezer stays in an upright position when moving it and you should avoid standing it on one end if possible. If moving it in an upright position is not possible, lay it down on the compressor side of the unit and be careful to secure the door to prevent it from opening. Once in its final location, set it upright and allow it freezer to sit for the same amount of time that it was on its side (24 hours max.) before connecting electricity. - Please feel free to reach back out if you have any additional questions about this installation. We are always happy to help! -Eliza@GEA

Q: QuestionI’m trying to figure out what kind of backup battery/generator I would need for this unit. Can you tell me the relevant specifications? Ie...kilowatts, etc...
Asked by BB.
- A:Answer Hello BB, Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your interest in this GE chest freezer. This is a great question and we are happy to help. The running amps for this unit is 1.35. We do recommend multiplying that by 2 to account for the momentary surge when the compressor kicks on. You take that figure and multiply it by the voltage (120) to arrive at wattage (volts x amps = watts). We hope this helps, feel free to reach out again with any other questions you may have. Have a great day!-Avery@GEA

Q: QuestionHow long does this keep items frozen in times of a power outage?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Hello and thank you for the excellent freezer. We are always happy to provide more information about this spectacular freezer. It is difficult to provide a specific amount of time items will stay frozen without power as this will depend on many factors. If the unit is full of frozen goods and the door is left closed as much as possible, the items could stay frozen for up to 2 days. If the freezer is only half full, the food could start thawing in 12 hours or less depending on the opening of the door. If you suspect the power will be out for an extended amount of time, we suggest adding bags of ice to the cabinet. Keep in touch! - JB

Q: QuestionHello, we purchased a GE® 10.6 Cu. Ft. Chest Freezer, Model # FCM11PH. Where does the water drain while the freezer is defrosting? (RE: upfront defrost water drain - Conveniently located to easily drain water during defrosting)
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Hi - Thanks for choosing GE! Chest models have a defrost water drain at the front. Remove the defrost drain cap from the outside and the drain plug inside the cabinet. Place a pan under the drain and sponge excess water from the bottom of the freezer as it collects to prevent overflowing.
