Q: QuestionWe just plugged this in 2 days ago and water runs into the ice bin for sometime before it starts to make ice. this normal with the 2.0 ultra? We had a different opal before and the water ran down the back behind the bin. Is this one defective?

• A:Answer At the start of ice making, the Opal will flush the system with water for approximately 5 minutes. You may see or hear water running during this process - this is normal. Q: QuestionCame with side rank but not utilizing due to frequency 2.0 machine needs to be cleaned. Pretty regularly has water on counter after just 4 months of ownership. Is this normal or could I have a faulty machine?

• A:Answer The cleaning issue can be fixed by using a tap filter (e.g. Brita) or a countertop RO filtration system. Once I started doing that, no more constant descaling or cleaning. The leak might be due to a hose plugged up from scale.

Q: QuestionHad ours a year and now the ice tastes terrible. In the past, that was an indication it needed cleaned and would resume to normal. However, now regardless of cleaning with vinegar and using filtered water, the ice still tastes terrible. What do we do?

• A:Answer the manual states to clean machine every 1-2 weeks with dilute bleach solution. if lots of people in the house are sticking their hands in the bin and grabbing ice, then I can easily see how bacteria will start to grow in this device rapidly and produce an off-taste. but if you clean w/ bleach every week, I don't see how enough bacteria could thrive to produce bad ice.

Q: QuestionI purchased one of these and bought the warranty which I am grateful for as I have had to replace 2 of them due to the fact that all of a sudden they start making horrible noises while making the ice and now my 3rd one is also. please advise

• A:Answer Do a HEAVY descale. Instead of running a cleaning cylce and letting it sit with the descale solution, let it sit for 2-3 days, then FLUSH the crap out of it. Mine started making a horrible squealing noise and made half melted "mush" ice. I did a heavy descale and the amount of stuff that came out was gross. Try that and see if it works, because after i did that, itd back to making perfect ice with no weird noises like it was on day 1. Picture added was taken 3 days after doing the heavy descale.

Q: QuestionI just bought this fancy GE ice maker. I’ve had it for over a month and now and suddenly it’s not working. I’ve cleaned it several times, but now it just says “add water”, even though it’s full of water. Has anyone else had this issue?

• A:Answer I just recently had this issue with "mush" ice. it turns out all it needed was a REALLY GOOD descaling from using hard water. It had started making this weird squealing noise and making the half melted ice. Once i read thru the manual and found out to properly descale it, i did. Except instead of letting it sit for 18 hours after running a cleaning cycle, i let it sit for 2 days, and the amount of scale that came out was gross. So, in my opinion, try that and see if it helps.

Q: QuestionCan you hook up a water line to it so you don’t have to refill the reservoir? I got mine for Christmas and my husband said it was an “open box” from Best Buy. It was missing the side tank! I was going to go and buy one for $70, but then had this idea!
