QuestionI already have McAfee Total Protection for 5 devices but I'm due for renewal. Best Buy has the 1 year Total Protection for 5 devices on sale for $29.99. Can I buy it from Best Buy and install on it devices that already have McAfee installed?

- Answer Yes! This can be used either as the first-time purchase and also as the renewal. When you buy this, take the code to https://www.mcafee.com/activate like you did before, but when you enter the code and log into your existing McAfee account, it will ask you if you want to extend your existing subscription. As long as you choose that option, your expiry date will be moved out by 1 year. You don't need to wait for the subscription to expire, nor do you need to reinstall. Your new expiry date will be 1 year from your current one - not 1 year from when you redeem the code so you don't lose any time. And since we constantly update our software, the latest has already been installed on your devices so no need to install anything further. Everything will continue to help you stay protected. QuestionIs this a download, or a physical security code? I have had bad experience with downloads, whereas they are mostly fake.

- Answer This was a download. I would prefer a physical media copy. They are much simpler to use for installation and don't rely on an internet connection or speed. Also if you have to reinstall because of a system crash a physical copy is much easier.

QuestionHow does the release date of the particular virus protection impact the effectiveness of the product? This particular item has a 2017 release date. However, I've seen some with a 2018 or 2019 release dates.

- Answer I could be wrong but my experience is that the subscription is always fully up to date at the time of the download to your computer. I always try to buy mine within two months of when I need to renew my subscription, but the actual renewal is done online and will be the latest release at that time. Renewing an older subscription should work, but will probably require a longer time to download the updates you don't have. A first time user will be downloading the entire gamut of security which will take a longer time than a renewal. (I think?)

QuestionIf I buy this for 5 devices, will the 1 year start at the first device installation or will it start on each device when installed? Example - my computer now and my son's computer in 2 months.

- Answer The subscription begins upon the first installation regardless of how many devices you install it on. Installing onto other devices doesn't change the expiration date. Make sure you go to https://www.mcafee.com/activate to redeem the code as there are many fraudulent sites out there claiming to be us and trying to charge you money. - Answer Yes! The codes don't expire. You can keep it until 2021 and it will still be valid. Just so you are aware, you won't lose any subscription time by applying the code now - it will add a year to whatever the current expiration is - in fact you can do that several times (with several codes) and create a multi-year subscription if you would like. But, if you want to hold onto it and not apply it until 2021, that is fine. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

QuestionI am using the 30 day trial pre-installed LiveSafe McAfee program on my Dell Laptop (with Win 10). If I purchase McAfee Total Protection, will I have to install the new version or will I just be able to enter the new act code for the 1 yr sub?

- Answer There are 2 versions of "antivirus" - McAfee AntiVirus and McAfee Antivirus Plus. Total Protection also has different features depending on the device count version you choose. Both antivirus versions, all Total Protection versions and all other consumer products we create have the same level of award-winning antivirus protection. - Answer You can redeem it for your McAfee account and it will automatically start the subscription once your current one expires. It won't count the months with your current subscription. So basically the new subscription will expire 1 year after you current subscription expires.

- Answer If you were buying the exact same package as you had, it would give you an option to "Extend your current subscription" and then it would extend your current expiration date by 1 year. However, it sounds like you had "McAfee Antivirus" and now are moving to "McAfee Total Protection". This is going to require an uninstall and reinstall, but that is done during the installation process for you if you haven't already done it manually. You will need to wait for Antivirus to expire in order to get your full subscription time, although we actually keep it active for 30 days after expiration just to give you time to make this kind of a change and remain protected. Just make sure you go to https://www.mcafee.com/activate to redeem the new code. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

QuestionI have a lifetime subscription with Malwarebytes. In the past I have purchased product that informs me that I will have to uninstall Malwarebytes to use. Can I have and use both this and Malwarebytes on my computer at the same time?

- Answer We do prefer to be the only antivirus program on the system, including a second version of McAfee, so there are no conflicts, but we will function with another antivirus program installed. You just need to cancel the step where it starts to uninstall Malwarebytes. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Another option is to grab this same product, but the digital download version and then the key is emailed within an hour or two. In either case, once you receive the key, go to https://www.mcafee.com/activate to redeem it and begin the installation. You will need to setup an account with McAfee using your email address. You will be asked to enroll in auto-renew, which gives you access to Virtual Private Network capabilities and also our Identity Theft Protection solution, but this step is optional and can be skipped without interrupting the installation. - Answer Unfortunately no. We ended our support of Windows 7 as Microsoft no longer supports it, meaning if any security holes are found, they will not doing anything to patch them. We cannot recommend people continue using this operating system. I'm sorry we can't help with that, but we can if you upgrade at least to Windows 8.1.
