- Answer You will be able to close the laptop and use a monitor. You will also need an external keyboard and mouse otherwise it is just a pretty picture on the monitor

- Answer I use a Star Tech adapter - it has a graphic card in the adapter and connects via USB. Though always keep the Surface Pro monitor as your main monitor and the second monitor as your working screen only.

- Answer It plugs into the same port that you power adapter for your Surface plugs into. That port does can connect other things besides power alone.

- Answer I use flash drives on either my dock or directly to the surface pro all the time, using an external monitor, and it is not inconvenient at all. Since there is only one USB port on the pro, I usually use the extras on my dock first, but use the one on my pro for plugging in things like FitBit when charging.
