Yeah, you'll need to buy a nano sim or get one from your carrier of choice. I swapped verizon prepaid nano sim from old iPhone 6S to this phone without issue. On plus side, sim shouldn't cost so much, last time I bought one for her for verizon prepaid it was $10.

You bring it to a GSM carrier like ATT, T-Mobile or Cricket and they'll give you a SIM card when you sign up for service.
