A:Answer Locked means that the phone can only be used with a particular carrier (probably because
they sold it to you at a discounted price). A locked phone has to be unlocked (or released)
by that carrier which may or may not be possible, or only after you have used (and paid for)
their service for a certain time.
Unlocked means that it is not TIED to a particular carrier, not that it will work with *any* carrier.
This phone is both GSM and CDMA capable, which covers all major US carriers,
but some phones are GSM-only or CDMA-only and will only work with some carriers, but not others.
