  • QuestionWould this lense work on a D90?

    Asked by KellCham.

    • Answer No. The Nikon D90 DSLR camera is not compatible with AF-P type lenses. For a fully compatible lens look into AF-S type lenses like the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Telephoto Zoom. AF-type lenses can also be used with the Nikon D90 camera but will need to be manually focused, as this camera model does not have a built-in focus motor.

  • QuestionIs this comparable with the D200?

    Asked by Jaxman.

    • Answer No, unfortunately AF-P lenses are not compatible with the D200. Please feel free to check out our AF-S lenses, such as AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED or AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor ED 55-200mm F4-5.6G.

  • QuestionWill this lens work on a Nikon D5100?

    Asked by Kane.

    • Answer No. The Nikon D5100 DX-format DSLR camera is not compatible with AF-P type lenses. For fully compatible lenses look into AF-S type lenses like the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5 -5.6G ED VR Standard Zoom lens or the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Zoom lens. AF-S type lenses will allow you to have full autofocus ability with this camera model, which does not have a built-in focus motor of its own. • QuestionWill this lens work with the Nikon D3100S

    Asked by Oldtimer.

    • Answer No. The Nikon D3100 DSLR camera is not compatible with Nikon AF-P type lenses. For a fully compatible type of lens for the Nikon D3100 model look into AF-S type lenses like the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II or the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Telephoto Zoom lens and newer E-type lenses. AI and AF-type lenses can also be used but will have some limitation. For more information on lens compatibility please contact Nikon Support.

  • QuestionIs this lense compatible with 3100D?

    Asked by Prashant.

    • Answer No. The Nikon D3100 DSLR camera is not compatible with AF-P type lenses. Instead look into using lenses marked with the designation of AF-S, as they will be able to autofocus with this camera model. You can also use AF-type lenses but they will have to be manually focused as the D3100 camera does not have a built-in focus motor. If you are looking for a lens that is compatible and has a similar zoom range you will want to consider a lens like the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR or the AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5 -5.6G ED VR.

    Asked by Jack.

    • Answer The AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens (Product 20062) is a DX format lens designed for use with DX format Nikon DSLRs. However, it is not compatible with all models and has limitations on some other camera models. There is no single Nikon model named the "DX" so please contact Nikon Support at 1-800-NikonUS to confirm compatibility with your camera.

  • QuestionHow is the low-light performance of this lens (as in a school auditorium setting filming on-stage activity)?

    Asked by PainterCrow.

    • Answer With an aperture range of 4.5 to 6.3 it is not a fast low light lens like a lens with an aperture of 2.8. Can you use this lens in lowlight situations - yes but you will need to shoot at higher ISO or slower shutter speed settings.

  • QuestionI am hesitating between the DX version and the FX version of the 70-300 AF-P lens. Outside of the weight (and price) difference, is there any reason why I shouldn't get the FX version? (I do have a compatible DX camera).

    Asked by WonderBoy.

    • Answer If you have a DX camera there is no reason to get the FXversion unless you enjoy spending xtra money.

  • QuestionI have Nikon lens AF-P i and now have a AF-S lens. Do i have to change the camera shooting menu on the camera to AF-S

    Asked by Walt.

    • Answer No! You are confused by the terminology. The “S” on AF-S lenses refer to Silent motor focus. This is completely different than the camera setting for auto focus. In this case AF-S means single focus compared to AF-C meaning continual focus.

  • QuestionWill this work well with Nikon d 800 camera?

    Asked by Craigers.

    • Answer No. It'll work, but not very well. This lens is designed for cameras with DX sensors, which are smaller than the full frame FX sensor. You'll likely have noticeable vignetting at the corners of the image, particularly at shorter focal lengths, and focusing may be dodgy. Using DX lenses on an FX body is not recommended.

  • QuestionDoes this lens work with the Nikon V3 camera and the FT1 adapter?

    Asked by CR.

    • Answer Yes. It should. This new AF-P lens uses the same type of stepping motor like the Nikon 1 lenses, and should be compatible with all Nikon 1 bodies. The added benefit is the Nikon bodies in general allow you to turn OFF VR using the menu. This new lens is actually very similar in size as the CX 70-300mm, slower for sure, but the price differential (even cheaper from eBay) definitely worth a try.

  • Questionwill this connect to the nikon d7200 camera

    Asked by Derrick.

    • Answer The AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR lens can be attached to, and is compatible with, the Nikon D7200 DSLR camera. However, since this lens does not have a VR "On/Off" switch, VR (Vibration Reduction) will default to "On" when the AF-P 70-300mm lens is used with the D7200 camera.

  • QuestionWill this lens work with a Nikon D5 and the D7000 Is this lens good for indoor sports action without a flash?

    Asked by BBadger.

    • Answer This AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens (#20062) is not compatible with the D7000. This lens is compatible with the D5 but the Vibration Reduction (VR) cannot be disabled when it's used on this camera. In addition, the focus ring on this lens cannot be disabled when using the autofocus mode on the D5. It's also important to note that this is a DX format lens which is optimized for use on bodies DSLRs with the smaller DX sensor. When a DX lens is used on an FX body like the D5 the camera will switch over to the DX Cope Mode Image Size, which will result in a lower resolution image. A lens without the DX designation would be a better choice for an FX format like the D5. On alternative is the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Lens (#20068) which is an FX format AF-P lens that is compatible with both the D5 and the D7000. For shooting indoor sports we'd recommend a faster lens, like the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens (#20063).

  • QuestionWill this lens work on a D600/ FX??? If so, would it be good to use for sporting events/ action photos??

    Asked by Tim.

    • Answer No. The Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR lens is not compatible with the Nikon D600 DSLR camera. The Nikon D600 is compatible with AF-S, AF, AI, and E-type lenses and will work beautifully with any of those lens types.
