QuestionPlan on building my home theater around the Pioneer VSXL301. Any thoughts on the sound experience if I use this like a "sound bar" on the center channel and pair it with a sub while I slowly build my home theater system?

- Answer I expect the result to be pretty lousy, to be honest. As even if you set the receiver to extended stereo/mono and send the full signal to the polk, it won't be like a soundbar, or even the cheapest bookshelf speakers. It'll simply be one speaker in mono. No stereo sound. At least soundbars do the stereo thing, albeit with small drivers close to one another. You'd be better off first buying bookshelf speakers, run them in stereo + sub, no center. Then add a center later.

- Answer This is actually why I purchased mine. I needed a center voice speaker. It is one of the best speakers on the market for this use. My son did the research, bought one for himself. After I listened to it, I ordered mine for upstairs. I would most definitely recommend buying it for exactly this reason.

QuestionId the Polk S35 center speaker better than the Polk CS400I that I own now? Looking for an upgrade. I have Polk RT400 fronts.

- Answer The best answer I could give is based on looking at the specs. Of course, the true answer is very subjective and needs a side-by-side demo to get your preference. The CS400i is tuned to a lower frequency 40 hz - 26 khz. The S35 is 53 - 40 khz. This should result in better high reproduction. Think high hat, cymbals for music and s's and t's for voice. Also, based on the wattage the S35 recommends 20 watts input versus the 10 watts of the CS400i. This is recommendation for accurate reproduction. The other differences are asthetic.

- Answer This is just a passive speaker. You'll need some kind of amplifier to drive it. Given that it's a center speaker, it is meant to be part of a surround sound system. You should have a surround sound receiver (most AV receivers support at least 5.1 (left, right, center, left surround, right surround and the sub-woofer). If all you need is a little better sound for your TV, you should get a sound-bar. Most sound-bars have build-in amplifiers.

QuestionCan anyone elaborate on how to mount the speaker to the wall under the TV? Pictures also helpful. Description indicates speaker has "keyholes for mounting" but are not shown in the "back" photo. Is there suggested mounting hardware that will work best?

- Answer The keyholes are there for mounting, and speaker comes with a template for hole placement in wall. Polk made it easy

Questionwhen compared to Klipsch Model:1065837 R-34-C which is 100 rms and 400 peak but 5.2 Inches high and blocks part of the front of the tv; how would this compare. this polk is only 75rms and 150 peak but don't block tv,all my speakers are Klipsch

- Answer I own this polk center. I didn't want to block the tv either. It's generally not watts...it is distortion from the amp that blows speakers. I have 100 watts potentially going to this center. I'm not worried at all.

- Answer This speaker can only play down to 53hz. Although it has a good amount of bass and kick, it will not replace a subwoofer or even some tower speakers, which can rumble down to 20hz if you get the right one.

- Answer It can only be connected using standard speaker wire. If you're connecting it to a turntable, you'll need some sort of amplifier or receiver.

- Answer Yes, absolutely. The S35 has excellent sound and additional base to it. They can be easily mounted to a wall. Making them a great candidate to be used in any position on your surround sound system.

- Answer I have a decent set of Polk speakers for a 5.1 surround system. I added this to replace the small center channel and add some sound and the difference is noticeable. I have loved this speaker and am now planning on probably getting two more to hang vertically for my front speakers. Even without you needing a full surround I don't think you will be disappointed if you get it.

- Answer This is a HEAVY speaker. Probably due to the magnets used in production. Your center channel is primarily for dialogue and efx. You’ll get more than enough volume if that is your concern. Adjust your levels during “set up” to compensate for any loss of sound you feel you may be experiencing.

- Answer HOW TO MOUNT TO THE WALL? Not shown in the images (but was shown in the video where I took a screen shot and am posting here) are "built-in four-way keyhole slots for easy wall mounting" on the back of the speaker. I assume there are just two keyhole slots, one on each end of the back of the speaker. Attach with screw into a wall stud or a screw/anchor combo into drywall to attach the speaker to the wall. Description indicates the speaker does come with a wall mount template to make measuring location of the screws into the wall easy. While I might prefer the speaker to come with wall mounting brackets, the screw solution is simple and straight forward and no brackets will be visible for a clean look. Would also have been nice to include the screws/anchors pairs with varying length with the speaker to have a screw head meant to fit the keyslot and provide flexible options of distance from the wall the screw is anchored (tight to wall or with some space). But not a big deal to find the screws that work for any given situation. I do plan to buy the speaker to go with a garage/home gym set-up for a center speaker to accompany my Polk Audio Patio 200 speakers (outdoor speakers that are mounted in interior of garage), the system is operated by a DENON AVR S750-H with wi-fi and Apple AirPlay2 and incorporates two Apple HomePods in stereo pair and a LG 43UN7300PUF TV (also with AirPlay2 and wi-fi). I can say, "Hey Siri, play John Mellencamp in the Garage" and the system will turn on the AVR, TV and start playing a John Mellencamp random playlist from my apple Apple Music account and play through all four speakers (soon to be 5 speakers when I add this center speaker) and show what's playing album image and song title on the TV. Center speaker important for workout YouTube videos (and the upcoming Apple Fitness app).
