Q: QuestionI don't understand Samsung's explanation to the above question that this heat pump dryer uses a 120 volt, 4 prong outlet with a 30 amp circuit breaker. I'm not an electrician, can anyone explain what Samsung is talking about.

• A:Answer Samsung is wrong. I have this dryer. It needs a 240V, 4 prongs outlet (2 hots, 1 neutral, 1 ground) but can also take 3 prongs (2 hots, 1 neutral). You have to install your own plug as it comes with no dryer plug. There is no such thing as a 120V, 30A outlet, it's not physically possible and not allowed by NEMA, there is NO such plug. As for "30 amp circuit breaker", it just means at your main electric breaker , you need a 30 amp breaker to be connected to this unit, however, it does not pull anywhere close to that limit.

• A:Answer Referring to the Samsung response, they are incorrect. This Ventless Dryer requires 240V, not 120V. I have this unit. This pulls about 2kW peak for about a minute before the heat pump turns on and steady states at around 500 watts. Ampacity at peak (for about two minutes when the cycle starts) is about 8 amps and steady states (for about 90 or so minutes) at ~2 amps. Their recommendation is correct, 30A 240V outlet. For what it's worth, I LOVE THIS UNIT. My cost is about ~15-20 cents per load, and I'm in California where electricity is a tad more expensive.
