  • QuestionI am concerned about ventilation for the Sony STRDH190 based on its dimensions. My cabinet will have a 1/2 inch clearance along sides, and the top will have a 5 inch clearance. The space is 20 inches deep, and the front is open. Is this ok?

    Asked by Pops.

    • Answer Hi Pops, Thank you for the inquiry! As long as you do not block any ventilation openings. Place the receiver in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent heat buildup and prolong the life of the receiver. Do not place the receiver near heat sources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust, or mechanical shock. Do not place anything on top of the cabinet that might block the ventilation holes and cause malfunctions. Enjoy the sweet sound of vinyl, or streaming from your digital music collection. • QuestionI am looking for a stereo for a 14 year old that loves collecting albums. Can the turntable and speakers work well without the other part sold here. The receiver I believe it’s called

    Asked by Marti.

    • Answer For you sonto play analog LP's you need 3 pieces, a turntable, speakers, and an amplifier with a phono input. This receiver does NOT have a phono input. You could purchase a separate phono preamp but it would be cost prohibitive. Look for a receiver wiht a built-in one as they used to be a standard feature and did not add much to the cost.

  • QuestionDoes this have a optical digital input

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer I'm sorry, it does not. On the back there is a connection that at first glance looks like it might be an optical input, but that's merely the antenna connection. The 590 and 790 models do have the optical digital input, but they're the pricier 5.2 and 7.2 channel models. I use the DH190 as a subwoofer amp and the DH790 as the primary (via HDMI), and can vouch that both sound terrific, but I do have the 790 outputting its signal to the 190 via red and white analog RCA jacks.

  • QuestionCan I connect an external amp to.my sony 190 receiver for more power?

    Asked by Kit.

    • Answer Hi Kit, Thank you for the question. Unfortunately, no. An equalizer/external amp needs to be connected to the tape monitor loop on an AV receiver in order to operate. The current line of Sony® receivers do not have a tape monitor loop. For this reason, it is not possible to connect an add-on equalizer/external amp to current Sony® AV receivers. NOTE: Most Sony® receivers feature a built in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Equalizer. The addition of an equalizer is not needed, and would provide no additional benefit to the overall sound output of the receiver. Hope this helps! Whether you choose to enjoy the warm sound of vinyl via the phono input, or stream music from your digital music collection, you’ve found a perfect match. Don’t forget the receiver’s A=B function lets you connect two pairs of speakers. You can easily switch between A or B or use them all together at the same time. • Questioncan I connect a switch box and drive four pairs of 6-inch ceiling speakers with this receiver

    Asked by Mark.

    • Answer If the switch box is an impedence matching device. This receiver output stage expects an 8 ohm load so if your box says it shows an 8 ohm load, you should be fine. What the boxes usually do is take the inputs and wire them in series to increase the impedence and protect the amplifier. With 4 speakers you can take groups of two and wire them in series, and then run the two groups in parallel to achieve the required 8 ohm impedence.

  • QuestionHi, I have a set of powered vintage speakers I’d like to connect. The speakers take 6.35mm TRS or XLR input, sensitivity 1v. Does this receiver output at the 1v range? What cable should I use? Thank you!

    Asked by VoltageNewbie.

There are no outputs that this receiver has that will directly connect to the speakers. You would likely need to look into a studio equipment. Hope this helps!
