A:AnswerIt has 2 sets of speaker terminals(A+B) so you can connect all 4 and just switch the little dial to A+B to use all 4 speakers. No sub though so no surround sound.
A:AnswerI rolled the dice and bought an out of box unit for about $120 and it had everything including the box and not a scratch on it. They reduced it for Black Friday but not sure how often they run a sale on it.

Please note: Speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge are most commonly used for connecting speakers to this receiver. Also, connect speakers with impedances of 6 to 16 ohms.

I have not had any problem with any of the functions performed manually without using a remote with either of receivers.
It does not mean I have systematically tested every single function but no issues nonetheless!
