QuestionHello, I have my audio going from my cable box to this receiver via HDMI. When using the apps on my TV the audio comes through the TV speakers. I added a optical cable from my tv to the receiver but not getting any sound. Is their a setting for this?

QuestionMy TV shelf is 10" deep. Will the legs/feet of this rest on it? I know the total depth is a little over 11", I'm just wondering if the feet are set back at all from the front edge. If not, can you recommend a 7-channel receiver that is more shallow?

- Answer The fronts of the front feet are set back about 1 1/2" from the front of the STR-DH590 receiver. The fronts of the knobs stick out an additional 3/4" beyond the front of the receiver (in case you have glass doors on your shelving unit). I cannot recommend any other receivers.

- Answer Hi Susan, Thanks for the interest! We recommend connecting wired speakers with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms to 16 ohms. We also recommend using speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge. These are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an Audio/Video (A/V) receiver. Hope this helps! - Answer Hi CarpenterJon, If the cable box is connected to the AV receiver, you have to turn on the AV receiver to make it work. You can connect the cable box directly to the TV and simply don't turn on the AV receiver. Regards, David

QuestionIs this unit to powerful for Sony SS-CS5 shelf speakers ?

- Answer absolutely not!!! It will work great with those speakers. This has 145 watts per channel and the speakers are capable of handling 100 watts. I have a pair of Paradygm bookshelf speakers for the front and some 26 year old sony speakers in the back and thinking of getting these for the back to replace them. I also have the sony sc 5 center speaker and the sony cs5 sub woofer to go along with the receiver. Chances of you listening to anything over 100 decibels for very long is doubtful unless you want hearing loss.

QuestionFm sounds muddy noisy all stations The antenna is a Joke.. I am in multi 2 channel mode with sony powered sub and sony 3 way speakers... all other inputs sound Great... is it the crappy antenna? is there a replacemnet? HELP.... I love FM radio. HELP !

- Answer Hi Customer, No, you cannot connect a soundbar to this AV receiver. We recommend connecting wired speakers with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms to 16 ohms. This unit also doesn't support phono input. You may consider STRDH190, it has phono Inputs and Bluetooth. Hope this helps! David

QuestionI have 2 sets of speakers. 2 speakers inside the house, and 2 speakers outside. Is there a traditional a/b type switch so I can direct the sound between inside the house and outside the house (not both at the same time)?

- Answer No there is only a main left and right and center right surround and left surround. I suggest if you are using this amplifier to get an impedance matching speaker selector, you can run one set indoor/outdoor or both at the same time.

- Answer Not sure. The set-up in the manual shows just using the top RCA jack to connect the subwoofer. Maybe it's needed to be compatible with some other subwoofers or to wire to two left and right speakers that have a separate subwoofer connection.

QuestionCan you control the volume between front and rear speakers after the auto calibration? Also ... can I connect my Bose Acoustimas 5 series 2 Sub to this receiver? If so, do you have a cable with a Sub-out on the receiver to RCA-in to the Bose Sub?

- Answer After auto calibration you can adjust each of the 5 channels by +/- 10 db. The subwoofer output is an RCA jack so you should be able to connect.
