QuestionOn the box of WD My Passport 5TG external hard drive, it says “download and install driver”. I only need to “drag and drop” folders and files. Is installing the driver (software) optional or required? Can this 5TB hard drive be used on Windows 7?

- Answer No need to download driver. As you said drag and drop, not much easier than that. Not sure about use on Windows 7, it worked on my computer that was Windows 10.

- Answer Yes, you can use this 5 TB external hard drive without Wi-Fi. As a reminder...your Laptop, and or Desktop computer is what uses Wi-Fi, not the external hard drive. On my Desktop computer I always disable the Wi-Fi. A Laptop computer, now days, from what I've seen, there's no ethernet port on them, so you have to use Wi-Fi on a Laptop computer. I use the 4 TB and 5 TB external drives with my Windows 7 and my Windows 10 operating systems.

QuestionWhat external hard drive is best for backing up a laptop, including photos?

- Answer The 4 Tb and 5 Tb external hard drives are fine for backing up for a Laptop computer, and or Desktop computer. One thing to keep in mind, if you like or want more than one partition, make sure that your O. S. backup partition is bigger than the other partition or partitions. Your O. S. backup partition has to be the biggest partition by default.

QuestionI currently have all my photos stored in separate file folders on my computer. When I back up to the WD Passport, will it organize them and store them using the same file folder names? Or is there something else I need to do first to make it happen?

- Answer You can use the official Apple lightning to USB adapter in order to connect this drive to your iPhone. Also, the drive needs to be formatted in order for your iPhone to recognize it. You cannot do this from your iPhone, it will have to be done from a computer.
