Performance powerhouse with few issues
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best part of this laptop is its performance. It has Intel i9 processor (there are other models with i5 and i7 processors as well), 16GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with 8 GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM. With such powerful components, the laptop delivers unparalleled performance. All the games that I played on it (Fortnite, Apex Legends, Cyber Punk 77) were smooth and resolution was sharp. So, overall it delivered in the department that matters most for a gaming laptop. In terms of build and design, I would say it is ok. The logo at the top looks cool. The keyboard is decent and has four zone RGB LED lighting. It is a full keyboard with num pad even though the num pad keys seem relatively small but I still like the fact that it is there. The mouse pad is big but I (and probably most of the gamers) anyways use an external mouse. It has 16-inch screen with FHD 1900x1200 resolution and 165 Hz refresh rate. The screen is sharp and colors are vibrant. Battery life is ok (~3-4 hours) and so is the webcam. Now, few things that I didn't like about this laptop: 1) The fan is noisy specially in the turbo mode 2) Audio is not great but I use external gaming headsets so not that big of an issue for me 3) It is heavy and the charger brick makes it even heavier. It means you can't carry it around too much. I usually don't move my gaming laptops around too much anyways, so again not a big issue for me but something you might want to consider. 4) No bio metrics support. The webcam doesn't support Windows Hello and there is no finger print scanner. So, you have to use PIN and/or password. At this price point, I would have liked to see at least one of these. Overall, it is a good laptop with a lot of high end components that deliver powerful performance. If you can overlook few issues that I mentioned above, you will find it worth your money.

Good little gaming laptop
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this because sims 4 was starting to lag on my old one. This Laptop runs it flawlessly, compared to what I was used to. The graphics are amazing. The only bad thing I've noticed is that it get really hot and the fans are very loud.

Good, not great, gaming/creative laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The newest release in Acer’s gaming laptop line, this Helios 16 provides a solid entry/mid-level gaming point that will work for most people. The screen is great, specs are all you need, and build quality is decent. Audio isn’t great, battery life isn’t great, weight is on the heavier side, and the power brick is large. But, don’t let that deter you: if found at a better-than-advertised offer, you’ll be happy with this Acer laptop. Upon unboxing the standard laptop box, you’ll find the Helios itself. The Abyssal Black hue with a few sharp angles and contours make it a slightly unique laptop design without going overboard, which i can appreciate. The logo lights up, adding a touch of gaming class. You’re greeted with a 16-inch WUXGA IPS display, which emerges as a focal point of excellence. Boasting impeccable clarity and vivid color reproduction, mainly due to the color coverage and overall finish on the screen, you’ll find accurate and dynamic colors, paired with a good refresh rate of 165hz. You probably won’t push much more than that with the 4060, even though it does feature 8GB of GDDR6 RAM. Speaking of specs, you’ll see this Helios is outfitted with a robust package underneath the hood: the Intel i9-14900HX is the highest offered mobile CPU from Intel, and paired with the mid-tier of the 4060 delivered excellent, and consistent, results when gaming at 1080p. There are plenty of ports, with some on the sides and some on the back, which is great, and also room for upgrades underneath the hood. The Helios 16 features two m.2 slots (one occupied from the start), and supports 32GB of DDR5 RAM if you ever wanted to swap out the base 16GB configuration. So, all of that is good. Some of the not-so-goods: audio is pretty ok, at best. This isn’t a deal breaker for most, but should be mentioned; fan noise can be loud. The battery life, as anticipated with most gaming laptops, lasts maybe 3 hours; I found mine dead twice just sitting out closed. One of the biggest things that I don’t understand is not allowing full power access when on battery power. You’ll have to be plugged-in to a charger to achieve the full bandwidth offered from the 4060 inside. The keyboard is decent. It’s not the best I’ve seen in a laptop, but useable nonetheless. The MicroSD card slot is slow, at least in today’s standards. This is a point I wanted to mention because the laptop itself leans more into the creative category of usage, and if this was faster would be a good option in that space. There aren’t any biometrics to speak of, which is a bummer but not a dealbreaker. All that said, I do think this Helios is an option for those looking for a mid-tier laptop to use. You could get away with docking it at times when at home, due to all the ports and upgradable components, and on the go is serviceable as well. I think it’s worth a look, especially when Best Buy decides to put it on sale.

Gaming Laptops SUCK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hey everyone, I urge you not to purchase any gaming Acer Predator laptops, or any laptops for that matter. I've owned mine for just under a year, and it struggles to run Fortnite on performance mode, barely handles Minecraft, and is incredibly loud. Save yourself the trouble and invest in the cheapest NZXT computer instead of this disappointment.
