It protects my pointer finger from the pain of tapping too often. I know that sounds strange but if I tap to much with my finger I get a pain right where my finger print in and it hurts badly. In addition the pencil is more precise and I can actually draw pretty well with it.

Simply squeezing or double tapping the pen definitely helps.
