Works great through the summer -- but these "outdoor cameras" stop working if it gets too far below freezing, which is just "winter" for the northern part of the US. This is apparently a limitation of batteries in general; however this camera does not have any battery bypass, i.e. plugging it in to USB doesn't prevent the problem from happening. My screenshot is of a camera that has a weatherproof USB cable plugged directly into an AC adapter. The USB cable was added because once the temps got below 50 the battery drained super fast.

Does the job for basic home surveillance

I’d realistically give this product 3 and 3/4 stars. Activity zones doesn’t really work, notifications go off in areas where they shouldn’t and also go off for notifications I have selected not to be notified on such as motion and animals on certain cameras. Clarity is not the best, it’s hard to see faces and certainly can’t read license plates. These cameras are solely to alert you when something is going on. Identifying people and vehicles is not their strong suit. They are quite clear but zooming in on people and vehicles for details is not the most clear. Alarm is pretty quiet, enough to scare people off I suppose but not loud enough to really cause a startle effect and alert the block. Spot light is decent, doesn’t illuminate like a spotlight but it does light up the immediate area about 10 feet by 10 feet in front of the camera. Ease of use is great, very easily to install and easy to setup. Doesn’t work with 5g though. All in all does its job, clear picture when not zooming in. The lag is kind of an issue as it doesn’t alert you in time, about 5 to 10 seconds off when motion is sensed, so if you are trying to get the jump on someone or an animal you have to be ready to roll and doesn’t leave much time to hit the siren. Kind of need to choose between getting a jump or hitting the siren. Calling the cops, fire, ambulance with the membership is nice, but requires a membership per camera. If you want a basic camera to track patterns of people outside your house or just see what’s going on great. But identifying and having useable still photos for faces or license plates get a higher grade camera.

This security camera from Arlo works really well. It is truly wire-free and has a full HD, wide angle picture (130 degrees). It connects to your wi-fi and will record any movement it detects into the cloud. A subscription is needed for this, but you get a free trial subscription when you first set it up. You can still access live pictures without a subscription. The camera has an integrated spotlight to light up the night when activated. It records in color both in the daytime and at night. You can communicate with 2-way audio through your phone or computer. There's also a built-in siren that you can activate if you spot trouble. This can be used inside or outside and is completely weatherproof. It comes with a mount and some screws to permanently attach it somewhere or you can just allow it to stand freely (if someone steals it, you'll most likely get a good view of them). This works with assistants like Alexa and Google and it works with Android and Apple. It will also send you notifications when certain activities happen in the areas that you designate (like packages delivered, animals, people, vehicles, etc.). The battery will last a good week or so unless you have it pointed to an area where it is constantly being activated. Then it will last much less. The last thing about this unit is that it can be used without an Arlo hub, which is nice. You just need the camera and the app to make it work. All in all, it's a good security camera.

They are reliable and we feel safe. My husband is 83 and is home 4 days a week alone and the cameras give me peace a mine when I’m not there. I work a full time job and can’t be there during the day. I have bought a set for my son as well.

Bought cámara at BestBuy in Chicago on December 2020. Camara worked great for the first 8 months… then I recharged it and now goes from 100% to 12% in less than 1 week!! In the pictures it was 13% on October 17th, charged to 100% that day and now today (October 23rd) is back down to 12%!

The Arlo Essential camera looks nice and unique with it's white body and black facade around the lens area. It's approximately the size of a hockey puck in size. This is my second Arlo camera being added into my Arlo ecosystem. I already own the Arlo Ultra 4K camera and smart hub. This was an easy way to have the Arlo Essential Spotlight added into my Arlo network at home. The app is easy to use to get the additional camera added in, and that process will take less than 5 minutes to do. The tricky part for me is the lack of distance that the smart hub can handle. I have a strong modem and router with broad coverage that works well in all of my 2400 sq. ft. home. I could not get this camera to connect properly to the smart hub to have an adequate signal.for a strong camera connection. So rather than putting the camera in the ideal security spot I wanted to, I had to settle for a different spot that would be closer in proximity to the smart hub. Not sure where the blame lies with this one, whether it's the Essential camera or the smart hub. Either way be sure to check the camera signal strength before you decide to place your camera in the designated spot. The Arlo app on iOS works well and is fairly easy to navigate. This camera displays in 1080p so it's a fairly clear picture you'll receive when it's wide, but gets very grainy and blurry when you zoom in. I also like the spotlight ability of this camera as an added deterrent to make sure that you can make others aware of its presence. I have my camera placed outdoors and it's weathered some rain already and continues to work well. The Essential camera is great for allowing 2 way audio to speak with someone on the other end in order to communicate with any visitors. The built in siren can be a good deterrent to make others aware that you're watching and help to alert nearby neighbors. One gripe I've had with this Essential camera is the Arlo claim of 6 month battery life. I have been disappointed with the lack of battery life in real world use. My camera ran for 5 days under the Arlo "Optimized" setting which allows for balanced video quality and battery life. 5 days of usage and experiencing a dead battery is unacceptable. I would hope that this is a product glitch or a defective product as one of the problems. I'm sure that no customer would want to be taking this camera off every week to recharge it with the supplied USB charging cable. One good thing I do like about this camera is that I get 3 months of cloud service to view recorded footage of motion activities. I don't like having to pay into an ongoing monthly subscription service in order to see any recordings. Just another money drain on your wallet by the manufacturers. Please offer an internal way for customers to view their own recordings with a micro SD card. PRO: Compact design Noticeable light and audio deterrent Free 3 month cloud video recordings CON: Battery life WiFi range connectivity Monthly subscription fees Video quality when zoomed in

I’m not loving it. I have 4 Ring cameras and I love the quality but they don’t work with Apple's HomeKit. I bought this camera because it said it was comparable but it’s not unless you have a hub and that’s an extra $100. I installed it anyway next to my Ring camera to compare the two and the Ring blew it away in color, clarity and night vision. I decided to keep it as a garage cam but I wouldn’t by another one.

Pros: Camera quality is great, and the night vision is pretty solid for this price point. Spotlight is bright, but isn't a feature I'm using. Set-up is pretty easy with the Arlo App. 2/3 connected quickly, 1 needed a factory reset and connected. And yes, these cams are hub free. Alexa Show, and Google home compatible (although, slow to pull up the feed.) Cons: Battery isn't removable. The entire device must be taken down and recharged (unless you purchase ancillary solar panel.) Smart Notifications for People are iffy at best. I've already experienced two missing alerts from delivery drivers at my front door. I had to bump up to All Motion for a better success rate. The app/cloud service is SLOW. I'll get a push notification, and tap on an alert. The feed takes 5-10 seconds to load, and the clip takes a bit to upload in the app. But I don't think this is unique to the Arlo Essential camera.

Arlo Spotlight 4 Camera indoor /outdoor

I recently purchased the Arlo Essential Spotlight 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wireless 1080p Surveillance System in White, and I must say, it has truly impressed me. The installation process was a breeze. The cameras are wireless, which means no messy cables or complicated setup. I was able to easily mount them both indoors and outdoors without any hassle. The included mounting brackets and screws made it even easier to secure the cameras in place. The video quality of these cameras is outstanding. The 1080p resolution provides clear and crisp images, allowing me to easily identify any activity or movement around my property. The wide viewing angle ensures that I can monitor a large area with just one camera, reducing the need for additional units. The spotlight feature is a game-changer. It automatically activates when motion is detected, providing a bright and clear view of any potential intruders or suspicious activity. This added layer of security is incredibly reassuring, especially during nighttime hours. The spotlight also works as a deterrent, as the sudden burst of light often scares away unwanted visitors. The Arlo Essential Spotlight cameras are equipped with two-way audio, allowing me to not only see what's happening but also communicate with anyone near the cameras. This feature has proven to be quite handy when I need to give instructions to delivery personnel or interact with guests at my doorstep. One of the standout features of this surveillance system is the advanced motion detection. It is highly customizable, allowing me to specify the areas I want to monitor and adjust the sensitivity level. This ensures that I only receive relevant notifications and not false alarms. The Arlo app provides easy access to live video feeds and recorded footage, making it convenient to monitor my property from anywhere. The durability and weather resistance of these cameras are also worth highlighting. They are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including rain and extreme temperatures. I have had them installed for several months now, and they have held up exceptionally well. In terms of battery life, the Arlo Essential Spotlight cameras have exceeded my expectations. With normal usage, the batteries last for several months before needing to be recharged. This is a huge plus, as I don't have to constantly worry about swapping out batteries or losing surveillance coverage. Overall, the Arlo Essential Spotlight 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wireless 1080p Surveillance System in White is a fantastic investment for anyone looking to enhance their home security. The easy installation, high-quality video, spotlight feature, two-way audio, and advanced motion detection make it a top-notch surveillance system. I highly recommend it to anyone in need of reliable and effective monitoring for their property.

This little camera straight out of the box came charged. I put it on for a few minutes to fully charge it and literally 15 minutes later it was up and running, connected to my phone through the app and mounted outside. IT's said to last 6 months on a full charge which is pretty amazing You can't say that about too many surveillance systems! It looks great, the build is solid and doesn't feel cheap at all. IT has a really bright light on it as well as a built in siren that sounds like a 1990's car alarm haha. It's not super loud but if you wanted someone off of your porch or wherever you install this, it''s sure to scare them away, For the size of the camera and how compact it is. It definitely does the trick. Setup was quick and simple and the app walks you through the process. Only taking a few minutes to be up and running. The app is really clean and well made. Very easy to go through settings and controls. Arming and disarming. You can control it with more than one device you just to download the app on that device and mark it as a trusted device and confirm it as safe on the original one you connected to the camera. My intent for this was to mainly keep an eye on my ornery Husky while he's out in the yard and for security when I'm gone. The app and camera has some really cool features including granting access to family and friends, package detection, e911, siren. etc. I did have an issue with it connecting one time but ever since it hasn't been an issue every time I've checked. I'd highly recommend this to others
