Works perfectly assuming you know what you need
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this modem to replace the combined modem/router I was renting from Comcast. I was a little hesitant after reading the reviews, but after researching / purchasing / installing I realized most of the poor reviews were based on user/purchaser error. The modem works perfectly for me, in the Chicagoland area, using the Comcast 250 Mbps service. If you are paying for 400 Mbps service or higher this product is not appropriate for you. Here are a couple of tips: 1. This is a MODEM ONLY. If you have multiple computers and/or want wireless connectivity, you will need to purchase a separate [WiFi] router. If you do not understand what MODEM ONLY means, please talk to a sales associate before purchasing. 2. The modem works for Comcast 250 Mbps(or less) service. If you are paying Comcast for greater than 250 Mbps (I think they call that xFi), get a different modem. This modem is not compatible with the 400 Mbps or higher Comcast speeds. 3. This specific modem works for Comcast in my location. Call your cable company first, and ask if this particular model is compatible with the head end equipment deployed to service your particular house. Internet reviews saying, "I heard it works with (insert random cable company here)" will ensure failure. 4. This modem is intended for people who also have Comcast "landline" telephone. If you do not have landline service through Comcast, consider purchasing a different modem, as it might be slightly cheaper. That said, this modem will still work with the 250 Mbps or under Comcast service. 5. When you are installing the modem, let it go through its firmware update process. I would suggest connecting the cable cord and plugging it into power, then walking away for an hour. The modem will go through multiple reboots as it is updating. It is best to leave it alone while it is updating. 6. Follow the Comcast directions. They have a link on their website with instructions for what to do if you are going to install your own modem. Read and follow those instructions. I was able to replace my rented modem with this modem by just following the Comcast provided instructions without any problems. For those interested in unscientific performance stats, current uptime is about 3 weeks. I just ran a speed test, two minutes before hitting submit on this review, using a well known test site, and got back 253 Mbps after going through a WiFi router (and while my son was streaming a movie on Netflix).

Worth the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to replace the rental modem from Optimum and works very well. Easy set up, just unplug and plug but need to call Optimum to register the new modem to get the saving. Of course, you also need to return Optimum modem. This one also has phone jack in case getting phone service from Optimum in the future. Good deal if you plan to have Optimum for couple of years.

Improved Reliability and Saved Money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this Arris to replace the ancient Arris that Comcast installed years ago. Since 2011, I had been paying Comcast $7.00 a month for old technology and frequent 'hiccups' that would cause the Internet connection to become 'flaky'. After comparing prices and the list of approved Comcast Modems, this modem was reasonably priced, had improved specs and had features that the old modem did not have. Since installing the new modem, I have not experienced the 'flaky' conditions that I had experienced in the past. This modem support speeds that are typical for most home users and the quality is exceptional.

Easy Activation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this to save the rental fee for the Comcast Cable/Phone Wifi Router. You will need to get a separate Wi-Fi router with this device, but I think it is better solution. If you start to have Wi-Fi problems, or if there are newer technologies that come out you don't have as much electronics to replace. I think you end spending about the same amount of money too. I guess the disadvantage, is that you have more cables to hook up. It installed and activated relatively easy. I decided to mount this against a wall in the basement, I couldn't find the template for drilling the screw holes that was mentioned in the manual, but I managed to get it to work just by measuring (I think 4"). There was a web link in the manual that you went to activate the device and it worked fine. It took care of both the data and the voice. It downloaded new software, probably took about 15 minutes to get it all working. Caller ID worked fine, and it still worked on the TV despite not have the Comcast modem. I did want a backup battery, I don't think Best Buy sells them, but checkout the manufacture web site. Take into account this cost, if it is important to you. That extra cost is what prevented me to give it an excellent rating.

Modem worked as advertised once configured
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The modem was recommended by Comcast/Xfinity to support our phone lines. Worked great once it was properly setup with Comcast. There was confusion on the part of Comcast as to which "address" it needed from the modem. After third try and about 2 hours, up and running.

Compatible with Comcast Xfinity
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This voice and data modem is compatible with Xfinity so I won't have to pay the modem rental. It works well and I haven't any issues with it. It was easy to install and all I had to was call Xfinity to register this device and return the rental modem. This was also $10 cheaper than other retail stores that I researched.

This works with Optimum on Long Island
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This works with Optimum and you can register the modem without calling them. Google search for "Optimum: Self-Installation guide" and it will bring to site to enter your account information and MAC address of the new modem. Disconnect your old modem first and connect the new one. Connect your computer directly to the new modem with the network/ethernet cable included. Then go to the "Optimum: Self-Installation guide" site and proceed. My download speeds doubled. I should have done this years ago.

Easy install
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced a modem I was renting from Xfinity with this modem. I picked this modem because it had a telephone port in addition to data since I have Xfinity voice. It was very easy to install and activate online with Comcast/Xfinity. Speed tests with it match the speed of my connection so no performance degradation with it.

Exact replacement for Optimum customers
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this cable modem because it’s a direct replacement for rented Optimum equipment. I have had it for a month and it works great. Maybe even a little faster than the equipment I used to rent. This model also has voice so you can use your home telephone. Saving myself $10 a month by buying this. The only hard part was the online registration with the cable company but I got through that without any difficulty.

Goodbye Optimum charges
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I brought this to replace my leased modem from Optimum. The setup was easy, called the Optimum helpline and gave them MAC ID. They told me it was working within 5 minutes of reaching a customer agent. I have 200 Mbps service and it was a direct replacement.

Have Optimum on Long Island?
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never had the modem rental fee for well over a decade, and since Altice took over the bill changes with all kinds of additions and “promotional” credits. Anyway, this modem was a direct replacement for the one we had (with voice), and the speeds are the same. It was also easy to activate by calling, maybe 10-15 minutes. You need to return their equipment of course, we dropped it off at a store. Finally, when shopping for this the price seemed to fluctuate very often - sometimes daily. Don’t pay $100 for it, should be around $64-$68.

Why pay Optimum, own it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've paid for this Arris TM822R modem 100x over. Now I own the same one I've paid for over 20 years! It's very easy to hook up. I returned the rented one to Optimum and save $10 a month. After attaching the wires, just call Optimum to activate. Should have done this years ago. Don't be afraid, be smart!!

Works great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace the modem I was leasing from Comcast. I was looking for a modem only since I already have a good router. This was the best price for a modem that included telephony. Most others were router/modem combos and didn't have the telephony connection that I needed.

Works great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cable modem was easy to set up with help from Comcast. Two step process with Comcast. First step is the cable and internet and when that is done they pass you off to someone else for the phone hookup. In 7 months it will have paid for itself. Remember that this is only a modem and you will need a router for wifi. Also, it is only rated at 343 Mbps download. With my Orbi router I get 251 Mbps 35 ft. from my Orbi satellite. Be sure to check with your cable provider to make sure this router will work with your cable plan. I seem to remember that it doesn't work with Comcast if you have a security system bundled with your plan.

It is NOT a wifi modem.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The device works fine, but no wifi. NOTE:Be very attentive to the features of a product when doing a search on BestBuy.com. Sometimes it doesn't encompass everything you ask for in search window of after you Filter and Sort. I ended up purchasing a separate wifi router.
