A keeper
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent laptop all around for a slim gaming PC. This laptop has 16gb soldered ram and 512gb SSD already installed. I waited for prices to drop and when they did I seized the opportunity quick on one of these devices. I also upgraded the ram with an additional 32gb Crucial stick in the empty ram slot ($90 from $140) and an additional 4TB Crucial P310 NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen 4x4 SSD in the empty SSD slot ($200 from $250) since deals were plenty. I bought this laptop as an open box excellent clearance sale for a total of around $1100. I plan on upgrading the original SSD and swapping it out for another crucial 2TB SSD when that goes on sale for about $100. After all the upgrades the total cost should be just under $1500. For $1500 I believe this is the best value slim gaming laptop on the market for its year due to its upgrade ability with the additional ram and SSD slots. Great screen and all around specs for gaming and light creative work. Speakers are on par with MacBooks. Fits in most regular sized backpacks. Feels about a light 7lbs with the charger in backpack. Holds performance with USB-C charging. Battery life and performance is great for about 2+ hrs continuous gaming with no charge, depending on the game. Doesn’t get too hot. If you play over 3+ hours nonstop I suggest a laptop fan cooler stand. I also recommend to set the charging capabilities to 80% to extend the life of the battery since this laptop is a keeper for the FHD resolution gamers alike. Lastly, my open box excellent device only had a small indentation on the top right of the screen side back plate but does not cause any issue with the screen itself.

Running with Fast Company - ASUS ROG
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is a sleek-yet-powerful gaming laptop with modern features. Have always been a fan of the Zephyrus line of laptops since receiving my first G14 almost 5 years ago. This new laptop has many welcome improvements while retaining the core styling which makes these laptops top-notch. Weighing in at 4.41lbs, this laptop is not that heavy compared to other gaming laptops of its caliber. This light weight is reflected in the sleek design of the laptop. The looks of this machine are premium with its eclipse gray color and subdued styling. Laptop has a rigid construction of magnesium alloy which is resistant to smudges. The hinge is sturdy as well and the screen can lay flat at 180 degrees. There is also a large rubber foot on the rear of the laptop for proper airflow underneath the chassis and tilts to a comfortable position for the keyboard. I/O is comprehensive with full sized HDMI, ethernet, USB-A, and thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. Laptop even has a Kensington lock and micro-SD card reader. Am a major fan of the inclusion of a Windows Hello compatible webcam. This facial recognition feature works flawlessly, and I am logged in immediately. Webcam and microphone quality are adequate for conferencing and are on par with other laptops. AI microphone noise cancelling modes can be selected in the Armoury Crate software. These modes aim to mimic different pickup patterns which work quite well in practice. Single-zone, RGB backlit chicklet keyboard is a pleasure to type on as it has satisfying tactile feedback. Keys are well stabilized and function keys have double functions. Large, 6” trackpad glides smoothly and has crisp tactile clicks. Keyboard RGB is easily customizable through the Armoury Crate program. 16-inch OLED display is packed with all the bells and whistles one could dream of. Display is 165hz, HDR and GSYNC compatible. Not to mention that it has extremely wide viewing angles and a matte finish. The screen is also PANTONE validated for 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, which is 25% wider than sRGB. Was impressed when the blur busters UFO test revealed almost nonexistent motion blur nor ghosting. This is quite the feat for a display with such thin bezels and form factor. SSD benchmark was performed with the drive at 50% capacity. These results are blazing fast and even outperform similarly spec’d computers. However, this is no surprise considering the 13th generation i7 processor and Nvidia 4070 at the heart of this beast. Cooling system does an excellent job at keeping the temps of this monster of a machine at bay. CPU reached its maximum temp of 100 degrees only once during the Cinebench multi core test. I never recorded the GPU exceeding 70 degrees Celsius. Additionally, once the benchmarks were over, the processors were quickly cooled, and fans quieted down. Heat is exhausted out the sides and back of the laptop. Under load, the trackpad area and most of the keyboard stays cool to the touch. Only the center, top area of the keyboard heats up. Fans are considerably loud at nearly 50db under max load. Performing upgrades on this device is straightforward as ASUS has provided detailed user, service manuals, and self-repair guides on their website. The laptop comes equipped with a 512 GB Western Digital SN740 PCIe 4.0 SSD drive and was able to install an additional full-sized NVME SSD in under an hour. 16 GB of dual-channel, DDR4 ram clocked at 3200mhz is soldered on. There is a SODIMM slot allowing for a ram upgrade up to a total of 48 GB as well. Was surprised when accessing the BIOS as it is refined and comprehensive, especially for a laptop. User interface similar to a fully-fledged ROG motherboard. Notably, the BIOS can create RAID drives with Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Armoury Crate software comes pre-installed on this machine. This program enables switching performance modes, controlling RGB, and updating key system components. The program also allows for custom fan curves and mild GPU overclocking. Overall, the ASUS Zephyrus G16 packs a computational punch while having subdued yet striking looks. This laptop truly strikes the balance of raw power and portability for gaming or workstation use on the go.

A Nice Laptop For Casual Gamers
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I generally like this laptop. It does a decent job with games. It is just slightly big, but not so big and heavy you'd never travel with it. The keyboard is super nice as is the touchpad for navigation. The only real complaint I have is the display, it is just not high enough resolution. OLED means it is bright and has huge viewing angles, but darn it I want more pixels. Games Well the acid test for me was Hogwarts Legacy via Steam. The laptop was able to get "High" graphics mode after benchmarking in the game. Ultra is impossible - the game stumbles. Even at High, there are still some frame drops and graphics artifacts. Nothing that gets in the way of playing - just I would have expected Ultra from a gaming laptop. So if you absolutely have to have a laptop, and you are a casual to moderate gamer, this will work. It's not for intense gaming at all. And wow it generates heat while playing, and it really needs to be plugged in to work. Setup Surprised how easy it was to setup. The one downside to Asus, they pack all kinds of programs that have weird names that do strange things. Armory Crate, MyAsus, and GlideX - deep with functions I couldn't figure out (how to just make the keyboard light be one color). And then add in the whole NVIDIA control panel with overlapping features. You'll have to learn a new language to understand those settings. The Guts Teeny tiny 512 Gb WD 4.0 NVMe SN740 hard drive (2280 form factor). 16 GB DDR4 RAM. CPU a mid pack i7 13620H (CPU benchmark - rank 405, CPU 25,502). Graphics card RTX 4070 laptop is a solid card. The great news - there is an open NVMe slot - remember it is the long form factor. And a single full slot for more DDR4 laptop memory. To open the case, you will need the service and maintenance manual from the Asus support site. There are some tricks to getting inside this. Not mentioned in the manual, your best friend will be a guitar pick. Connectivity Wow what a mixed bag. Super awesome, two USB-C ports (both can charge the laptop - and one can do display), two USB rectangular ports, a real live RJ45 port, and a good old full size HDMI port. Scratch my head a bit - a 3.5mm headphone jack. And seriously, why did they do the following? A silly ancient laptop charging port - yes it comes with a massive ancient AC adapter, why not just charge this thing over USB-C, add a third port? And the worst choice in the world - instead of an SD card slot, a micro SD card reader. There's more than enough space on the side of this thing and inside the case to use an SD reader - and everybody that has microSD has an adapter. Photography For everyday casual photography work, the laptop is outstanding. The processor and graphics card are more than powerful enough to work easily. For more demanding work - this isn't the machine to use, without an external monitor. The OLED screen cannot be calibrated. Color can be adjusted to get close to calibrated monitors, but it will always be off. I tried default, windows tweaking, and a Datacolor Spyder X. Running the Datacolor Monitor Quality Analyzer, I wasn't able to get a medium blue band to get anywhere near close to accurate, all other 47 tones were reasonably close to accurate. Luminance uniformity is surprisingly uneven - there are quite a few hot spots. It does cover the full sRGB, and 75% AdobeRGB. I do like this laptop. I've spent years with MacBook Pros. Their displays are light years ahead of the Asus laptop. However, gaming is not much fun chez Apple. And the ability to internally upgrade the Asus is fantastic. I can also seamlessly connect to my cameras with the Asus. Just wish the display had more pixels.

Portable High End Gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus Zephyrus G16 16" Gaming Laptop is an excellent choice if you're in the market for a high end gaming laptop. Everything about it screams high end. The styling, the ultra portability, the high end performance makes this whole package an easy choice. The screen is very responsive, and colors are very accurate. There is minor backlight bleed through due to the fact it's not an OLED. The 165 Hz refresh rate assures you of instant response, zero lag, and no screen tearing. It is also certified for Nvidia's G-Sync. The only downside to this screen has nothing to with the screen itself, but where Asus placed the LED status lights. They placed them in such a way that they reflect onto the screen itself. Not sure what they were thinking there, but it does draw your attention, especially when the HD light is blinking. The CPU is a power house, especially in a package like this. It's more than capable of handling anything your throw at it. Not only is it powerful, it runs fairly cool as far as laptop CPU's go. I haven't had any issues of it throttling due to temps in any of my gaming sessions on the Zephyrus G16. The Zephyrus G16 has dual GPU's. One is on the the die of the CPU, and can handle most of the daily activities like browsing the internet and checking emails. This can considerably save your battery power instead of using the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU. As for the RTX 4070 laptop GPU, it's a beast in this laptop configuration. At the 1920x1200 native resolution of the laptop screen, you can run just about everything at High/Ultra settings and get ultra smooth gameplay. One of my favorites games to play at the moment is The Crew Motorfest, and I play it on "Utlra" settings, and the framerate is pegged to 60FPS, which is the max for this game. It runs so smooth and looks amazing, making it even more enjoyable to play. You get 16GB of memory, which is basically the standard for gaming. Taking a peak inside the laptop, you can see that there is no option to change it, which means that it is most likely soldered to the motherboard, but don't worry, it is still plenty of RAM for gaming or just about anything else this laptop can handle, and is plenty fast. Overall this is an excellent choice for a gaming laptop. It's extremely powerful, and very portable.

A Powerful, Sleek Gaming Laptop That Delivers.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Review: The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is an absolute beast of a gaming laptop. From the moment I powered it on, I was impressed by the performance and the sleek, premium design. The 16" FHD display with 165Hz refresh rate makes games look buttery smooth, and the colors are vibrant and immersive—perfect for both gaming and content creation. Under the hood, the 13th Gen Intel Core i7 paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 handles everything I throw at it with ease. Whether I’m playing demanding AAA titles, streaming, or multitasking with creative software, the performance is consistently fast and responsive. The 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD keep things quick, and load times are minimal. I also appreciate how portable it feels for a gaming laptop—thin, lightweight, and stylish with its Eclipse Gray finish. Despite its power, the cooling system does a great job at keeping temps under control without getting overly loud. Battery life is solid for a gaming laptop, and when I’m not gaming, it easily handles productivity and media use. The keyboard feels comfortable and responsive, and the RGB lighting adds a nice customizable touch. Overall, the ROG Zephyrus G16 is the perfect balance of performance, portability, and style. If you want a laptop that can crush modern games and still look professional for work or school, this is one of the best options out there.

Decent performance with a glaring omission
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second G16. The first was with 30-series graphics card. This version appears to be the same system just updated with a 4070. Is that a bad thing? That depends. All the features that I love are here. Slim body, plenty of ports for connection, and an overall pleasing aesthetic. But, one feature I originally loved, becomes an issue here. The screen. Specifically, there is no native HDR. With NVIDIA pushing the limits on their RTX capabilities, having HDR in the current generation should be a given. While I can turn on RTX Super Resolution, I had to find out the hard way that I couldn't experience in-game RTX HDR because it requires Windows HDR to be activated, which is not available here. And note, streaming HDR and native HDR are not the same thing. As I booted up Hellblade 2 and The Callisto Protocol, I was met with the realization I was missing out on the maximum potential of the imagery...which is seemingly what a good graphics card is all about. So, if you're a gamer looking to maximize the graphical prowess of the 4070, this may be a bit of a letdown. On the other hand, the games run flawlessly with very few framerate dips. My preference would be higher ram for today's games, but the 16GB installed is doing the trick so far. What I don't recall from my last model is the quick access buttons. Great feature. Having the armory crate and volume on quick access is much more convenient than fidgeting with F buttons. Battery life is still decent for a game system, and the portability of the G16 is a great feature in itself. Yes, I still love the size and power, and would recommend, but the lacking HDR has to be considered if you're buying for graphical prowess.

Great if on sale.
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop. It was a school/ game on the go rig and it has performed phenomenally in those aspects. It's not too heavy, not too hot, though it does benefit from increased air flow space. For productivity and school work, no problem and not so flashy that it's an obvious gaming laptop. For gaming, it can run most games at fair FPS and decent graphics. I don't have a cooling pad, propping it up works fine. Fans can be very loud, but you can adjust the fan curve and fix that quite easily. Get rid of armoury crate and get G-helper. By no means does it replace the power of main PC or the couch comfort of a handheld, that said, it is a perfect in between and there'll be a desktop surface available. Decent battery and charges with barrel charger or USB-C PD (lower, but decent).

Great laptop with good price
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially, I was a bit upset seeing the dirty box and was worried about whether the laptop was new. However, the laptop itself was very clean, and after checking various aspects through the system, I confirmed that it was indeed new. I am not a gamer. I bought it primarily for 3D design and complex simulation as a Mechanical PhD student. I also tried some games, and they ran very smoothly, which I loved. Everything is running very great and smooth. I was ambivalent between the Zephyrus G16 and Lenovo Legion 7i (Core i7, 14700HX, DDR5, RTX 4060). After using the Zephyrus G16 for a few days, I feel it was the right choice due to its superior graphics (RTX 4070), portability, longer battery life (up to 6-7 hours with general use), and lower cost ($1150 vs $1300). The only downsides are the RAM being DDR4 and the display brightness at 250 nits. However, I plan to upgrade the RAM to 32GB, which should compensate for performance somewhat. The laptop does get hot during gaming, but this is normal for all gaming laptops. The fan noise is tolerable to me (not very high). Additionally, I have no issue with the 250 nits brightness as I don't prefer too much brightness. I was also impressed by how well I could set up everything (software, system settings, etc.). Did not make any trouble at all. Only struggling with face recognition Windows hello setup. I don't know if it's because my room lacks light. Overall, I am very impressed with this laptop.

Great laptop for sale price
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got it on sale for $1200 and only had it for a few weeks but has been great. The size and portability l, coupled with a 4070 is why we bought this and it hasn’t disappointed. I’m not a huge gamer but do like to play them when I travel and it has run destiny 2, helldivers 2, and the first descendant without issue. I did purchase a 1TB SSD to increase the storage which was my only complaint. Would have paid $50 more to start with a 1TB SSD

Make sure to instsll another stick of memory if you buy this laptop. Might want to throw in a larger, faster m.2 while youre at it. It has 2 m.2 slots. Laptop is mainly used for work/dev. Good save for two issues
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has the goods on paper to be a solid choice for gaming while still being quite portable. It definitely fit the bill, but I had to return it for two significant issues. The first is Asus' control software, Armoury Crate. It's really terrible, though most of its functionality can be replaced by a much lighter weight third-party application called G-Helper. The bigger problem was the HDMI port. Despite trying multiple cables and compatible displays, I could only get the laptop to output at HDMI 2.0 resolutions and refresh rates, which are 4K/60 Hz or 1440p/144 Hz. Adaptive refresh rate, aka G-Sync, also didn't work properly. Maybe it was just my unit, but this was a deal breaker.
