A keeper
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent laptop all around for a slim gaming PC. This laptop has 16gb soldered ram and 512gb SSD already installed. I waited for prices to drop and when they did I seized the opportunity quick on one of these devices. I also upgraded the ram with an additional 32gb Crucial stick in the empty ram slot ($90 from $140) and an additional 4TB Crucial P310 NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen 4x4 SSD in the empty SSD slot ($200 from $250) since deals were plenty. I bought this laptop as an open box excellent clearance sale for a total of around $1100. I plan on upgrading the original SSD and swapping it out for another crucial 2TB SSD when that goes on sale for about $100. After all the upgrades the total cost should be just under $1500. For $1500 I believe this is the best value slim gaming laptop on the market for its year due to its upgrade ability with the additional ram and SSD slots. Great screen and all around specs for gaming and light creative work. Speakers are on par with MacBooks. Fits in most regular sized backpacks. Feels about a light 7lbs with the charger in backpack. Holds performance with USB-C charging. Battery life and performance is great for about 2+ hrs continuous gaming with no charge, depending on the game. Doesn’t get too hot. If you play over 3+ hours nonstop I suggest a laptop fan cooler stand. I also recommend to set the charging capabilities to 80% to extend the life of the battery since this laptop is a keeper for the FHD resolution gamers alike. Lastly, my open box excellent device only had a small indentation on the top right of the screen side back plate but does not cause any issue with the screen itself.

Great Laptop for the price. On sale or not.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolute unit for the price. Especially when on sale. Laptop runs modern games on highest settings. Even can do 4K at ok frame rates on certain games. Adding a nvme m.2 and extra stick of ram was super easy. Laptop looks dope, isn't crazy heavy, and fans are surprisingly tolerable when wide open. Would recommend.

Exactly what I need
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After doing lots of research, I landed on the ASUS ROG Zephyrus for a balanced combo of gaming/work/creativity/entertainment. In the store, the G16 looked unnecessarily large compared to the G14, so I chose the G14. I returned it after a few weeks because it got SUPER hot way too fast. Since I don't need to prioritize portability and read that the OLED display contributes to temperature issues, I switched to the G16. It's much heavier than the G14 but for a gaming computer it's very sleek. This laptop is not OLED... OLED is absolutely stunning, but for me it's not necessary, especially since I usually connect my laptop to my TV via HDMI and don't need a perfect display to write or work on my laptop. I've had the same refurbished Mac for the past decade, so this was a big leap for me (including reorienting myself to Windows). If you can, check them out in store and see what works best for you

Great laptop
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great and quality laptop, upgradable and good screen. Runs hot but a minor tweak can resolve those issues. Sleek design and not to heavy.

Big power in a small and light package.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've got a great Asus ROG Strix G18 laptop already, but it's a beast (18") and runs flawlessly, whatever I throw at it! However, it's my primary, dedicated gaming machine, when I'm NOT using my desktop. Given the overall weight and size of it, it's pretty much stationary and doesn't get moved around a lot. But, sometimes, I just like to be in a different area of the house when gaming and having a laptop does afford me a little more flexibility, there. Enter the new Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 (16"). I needed a smaller form-factor, more portable and less demanding laptop for other things, but one that can also handle gaming, when I decide to. A system that wasn't such a behemoth as my G18, where I can more easily move from one location to another without feeling like I'm moving an "entire setup", lol... as well as to take it out of the house with me, when I travel. As far as specs go, it has a 13th gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, an Nvidia RTX 4070 video card and a 512GB NVMe OS drive. Oh and it's just a hair over 4lb! I was super impressed with how lightweight it is and while it does not have any RGB, I do love the chromatic reflections on the top panel. It has two USB-A and two USB-C ports...so, if you wind up plugging a mouse and keyboard in for productivity/gaming, you may need to get a USB Hub...especially if you wish to use a controller and/or a gaming headset! I use a USB-C Hub that has two additional USB-A and two USB-C ports built into it. I do wish there was at least a 3rd USB-A port, as this would further eliminate the possibility of having to keep up with a Hub. Overall, build quality is superb! I do love how, when open and in use, the screen seems to sit a bit "low"...kind of down behind the back of the bottom chassis a bit... unlike my bigger, Strix G18, which sits above. Really, my only complaint with how/where it sits is the location of the power, charge and hard drive LED's... they kind of put a bit of reflection of them on the very bottom of the screen. I don't have this issue with my Asus ROG Strix G18 system, so this has taken me a while to get used to and mentally "tune it out". Honestly? It's really literally my only gripe with this system, but is more of a nitpick, because everything else is fantastic! Since the default installed SSD is only 512GB, which is plenty for an OS drive... I will be doing some "lighter" gaming on this laptop, so I did purchase a 1TB NVMe SSD to add to it. Removing the back panel to install was a bit tricky. I done the same with my Strix G18, with no issues. However and for whatever reason, Asus decided to hide 3 of the screws behind some little sticky "caps" on the back-middle of the panel. I literally had to look up a video or two on how to remove the panel in order to learn that you have to pop these little caps off to reveal the hidden screws there. Also, they were a PAIN to get out...I had to use one of my wife's crafting tools that had a super sharp point on it do get down and under, in order to lift the cap up and off. Anyway, once that was done, I removed the additional screens and the back plate popped right off. Got the SSD installed no problem, popped the plate back on and secured all of the screws and replaced the little caps. Now, for setup. With the additional SSD installed, I flipped it over and powered it on! Booted up no problem and I proceeded with Windows updates and such. After waiting a bit for this, I was finally greeted with the Windows 11 desktop. I immediately disabled bit-locker encryption - I honestly don't understand why this is "on" by default...especially for a "gaming" centric PC...but this is a Windows thing, not related to Asus or this laptop. Once that was done, I went into Disk Management. The SSD was recognized and I got it set up as my D: drive. I then continued with more Windows and Microsoft Store updates, along with the Asus Armory Crate and MyAsus updates. After a few hours of these final updates, everything was running great. The system response is super fast and snappy when launching/loading apps and games. I also love the Aura Wallpapers within Armory Crate. Normally, I'm a Wallpaper Engine kinda guy, but I haven't even installed that on either Asus laptop I have because I just love the included Aura engine ones! I also went into Armory Crate and enabled the "Ultimate" GPU mode. This basically disables the on-board GPU and uses the dedicated Nvidia GPU 100% of the time. This is also the only way to enable the advertised G-Sync mode as with the "Standard" GPU mode, the Nvidia Control Panel does not list G-Sync. Also, the 165hz refresh rate is a nice bonus! I would have loved to have seen 240, as that is increasingly becoming the new standard, but for the specs and performance of this system, 165 is perfect. Finally, performance. Given the specs and resolution of this system, it's a beast! Like I said, I plan on playing less intensive games on this system, but I did also install a few higher-intensity games, just for fun and testing! Of course, games like Stardew Valley, Vampire Survivors, Deep Rock Galactic (and the "Survivor" spin-off), Hades II and Death Must Die all perform flawlessly at maximum everything. Baldur's Gate 3 runs at max with DLSS set to Quality at around 90-100 FPS, give or take (depending on the Act you're in and the area). I'm also able to run CoD MW3 with DLSS set to Quality and Frame Gen enabled and I'm getting around 100-110 FPS. Sea of Thieves and Dark and Darker are also maxed out and between 90-100 FPS, as well. I mean, literally the only game I've had sub-90 FPS performance on that I've tried is No Rest For the Wicked and this honestly is more of a game optimization issue...even my Desktop system with an RTX 4090 struggles to hit over 80 FPS on this game, lol. In conclusion, I give this Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 laptop a solid 5/5. Given the retail price, size, spec and build quality to performance ratio, you really can't get much better than this. Just spend a little extra and get a secondary 1TB or 2TB SSD, a USB HUB and a wireless keyboard/mouse, along with a gaming headset and you'll be amazed with this system. It'll be able to run the latest games at the highest performance for years to come.

Amazing thin and light
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have used a MacBook in the past, and want that same feel when using a gaming pc, this hands down has to be the closest thing you can get to everything you want. When I was buying this, I absolutely fell in love with the keyboard, the spacing and key feel was just what I was looking for . It has a light touch of rgb with the keyboard having full array rgb backlit keys. It gives the nice colorful touch, yet not being overbearing. The 16:10 1920x1200 display is GORGEOUS, and the bezels are so thin it’s like they don’t exist when you’re using the laptop. It’s very light, especially when compared to other gaming focused laptops, so it’s very comfortable when carrying it in a backpack. Battery life is above average when considering it’s a gaming laptop. BUT this is more than a gaming laptop, I saw battery life at about 3 hrs , and in game on battery about a hour and a half. For a thin and light it’s a great choice because it doesn’t have many compromises

Great gaming laptop limited by a small hard drive
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a good gaming laptop. It has fantastic cooling for a laptop with a 4070 in it. Plus you can upgrade the RAM to 48 GB which is a rarity today. It is also pretty thin and light weight for a gaming laptop too but still built well. Doesn't feel like a plastic toy. The only reason for 4 stars it is comes with a 512 GB drive. For the money, I would have expected a TB at least. It was easy enough to upgrade the drive and there is an additional NVMe slot to add a second drive as well. All in all, a great laptop for gaming/high demand usage.

Amazing pc
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Item is perfect in every way. The battery lasts forever for a gaming PC and it's super light weight to boot. The 1080 p panel looks amazing and I can't tell the difference between a 1440p monitor at this size. Great buy and I got it for 950 open box

Great Laptop, Upgrade Needed for Maximum Enjoyment
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 packs quite a punch for what it comes with out of the box. It's a great option for the casual gamer, and a solid option for the more dedicated gamer with some upgrades I'll detail below. Laptop design is sleek & modern, the aluminum chassis that I've come to really like with the Asus brand. It's relatively lightweight for a gaming laptop at a little over 4lbs. Easy to pack and take on trips. The graphics are amazing, exactly what you'd expect from Nvidia. Audio is clear & crisp, no static or dropping out. I've been able to enjoy Youtube videos and Netflix with no graphics or audio issues. It also works nicely for casual photo editing. I've found my gaming experience to be overall a good experience, but with some caveats. Primarily the ssd that comes with the laptop, 512gb just isn't enough for those of us who like to play a variety of games. You can run out of space quickly, or some games require a large amount of storage available to install even if they later don't use that storage to run the game. Some of my favorite games, such as Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, & Sims 4 are resource hogs so I needed to upgrade for an optimal gaming experience. Luckily, the G16 is easily upgradeable. The first thing I did was to add a secondary 2gb ssd to the handy slot. No more concerns about running out of space. The 16gb RAM it comes with is integrated onto the motherboard, but it does have a slot to add more RAM. 16gb RAM does handle many games quite well, but I like the improved performance with 32gb. After adding those upgrades, I've had no issues with the performance of any of my games. They're all running on a mix of High/Ultra per the recommendations of the Nvidia GeForce Experience software. Fan noise can be a bit of a problem sometimes, especially when playing Baldur's Gate 3. I have the laptop set up on a cooling tray with its own fans, but the laptop fan will also come on and get really loud. I've been using headphones since it can get difficult to hear the game over the fan noise. I've had no trouble with the laptop getting too warm though, it can get a little warm near the vents but not hot to the touch. Overall I think the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is a solid laptop, and even better once the upgrades are completed.

Very well made laptop for gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a really good gaming laptop. I use this gaming laptop mainly to play war games while my son uses it mainly to play sport games and the other laptop that we used to use to game online is roughly three years old, and is still a good laptop, this ASUS is a step WAY up. The first thing that I noticed is how lightweight this laptop is, it is a significant difference between the old laptop, and again, that one is three years old and I’m certain that technology has advanced in those three years, the weight is very significant. I also really like the graphics, they are very, very clear. This laptop makes the gameplay that much more enjoyable. I was able to connect to our home wireless system in a matter of minutes. The lag of the older laptop was starting to show, but not this ASUS ROG Zephyrus. We have not noticed any lag whatsoever w/ this laptop. I also like the display and how easy it is to change it to what is best to each individual person. The colors are very vibrant and realistic. We both use different headsets and both connected to the ASUS almost immediately. This is a very well made and enjoyable laptop to use strictly for gaming purposes and I highly recommend it.
