    Great and superb laptop

Superb laptop for the price! Stock specs are as follow OS: Windows 11 Home Processor/CPU: Ryzen 7 7735HS Graphics Card/GPU: Radeon RX7600S (8GB VRAM) RAM: 2 x 8GB DDR5 SODIMM (16GB total) SSD: one 2280 500GB SSD, WD SN740 It has 2 ssd slots which can be upgraded for more storage space, the ram is upgradeable as well, up to 32GB (2 x 16GB SODIMM sticks) i put a 2TB Samsung 990 pro ssd on the second ssd slot, and the RAM i upgraded with 2 x 16GB 4800MHz Corsair sticks. The CPU and GPU are, as expected on most laptops, soldered into the motherboard and are not upgradeable, which is fine since both are fairly powerful (the Ryzen 7 7735HS is comparable to a RTX 4060 laptop GPU) General use: This laptop is speedy and quick while browsing and watching videos, no issues at all! Gaming: So the main reason i got this was to game, and it does it very well! Plugged in and at full power (Turbo), almost every single game i have ran at high/ultra settings at either the laptop screen's 1200p resolution or if like me at 1080p on a external monitor. Recent popular games like Baldurs Gate 3, GTA 5, Fortnite and CoD all run at ultra/high settings at a solid 60 fps. Some recent games you can run beyond 60fps, but i personally always prefer to lock it at 60fps. MMO's, like WoW and FF14 can easily run at a locked 60fps, or 120fps in most of the game! The fans do get a bit loud when running at full power (think a soft hum) but if you wear headphones it's barely noticeable. The system has the Armory Core app, from which you can adjust the amount of power you want (Silent, Performance and Turbo) and the fan curves as well. Screen: The screen is 1920x1200, you can choose between 60Hz or 165Hz refresh rate. The colors are nice and playing in a bright or dark room is excellent, and has no glaring. my only gripe is that the screen is not super bright, but it's serviceable. i personally play on a 1080p monitor and i have not had any issues! it also has a 720p webcam on top. Keyboard: The keyboard is serviceable, it has white lights underneath (No RGB) which can be adjusted to 3 levels or brightness. It's silent and responsive, even though i mainly play with a controller and use a external keyboard, the main keyboard has no issues either! IO/Ports: On the left side it has the charger port, Ethernet port, HDMI 2.1 port, 2 USB-C ports (1 has 40GB protocol), and 1 USB port. On the right side it has only 1 USB port. i have not has any issues with any of the ports, a personal nick pick i have is that the charging cable itself has a odd L shape instead of a normal straight one, but it works well and i have not had any issues with it. Laptop shell: The laptop shell itself is made of plastic, but it feels premium and nice. My only gripe with it is that, because is has a matte finish, it fingerprints and smudges super easy, but it can be cleaned with any microfiber cloth no problem! Final thoughts: This is a great and superb laptop that will reasonably handle almost anything you throw at it, this is definitely a 1080p/1200p gaming machine, anything beyond that resolution will struggle a bit, i recommend getting a fan/cooling laptop pad to keep it nice and cool while gaming for hours! The performance is incredible and stable! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gaming laptop that won't break the bank but has reasonable and great performance for current gen games!

Good laptop in general. I guess most people might not like it because of AMD GPU but it is very amazing for its price. Really good value. Was having some issues with it at first, some screen glitching but it is fine.

    Defective iGPU

Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The integrated graphics only worked properly for a few weeks. It has a "mux switch" system to switch between the iGPU and dGPU as needed, depending on the task. Basic stuff stays on iGPU, but launch a game or something and it switches to dGPU after a brief delay, with a little notification at the top right saying it successfully switched. After a few weeks, that notification was just a rectangle of blur-effect filter. A few weeks after that, nothing at all. And then the real problems started. A little bit of white flickering in some widgets in one window, then larger areas, then the whole window, then more app windows, then the whole screen. Flickering when moving the mouse on various elements, flickering and then staying white for longer periods, then a totally glitched out display, indicative of a busted video card (or maybe drivers, who knows). But if I start a program that uses the dGPU, everything is fine... As long as I keep that program running. Otherwise the display immediately goes wacky again. I've tried resetting the graphics driver (ctrl shift Windows B), doesn't help. Rebooting helps for a little while, but a few "mux switches" later and it continues with the shenanigans. I tried a "hard reset" (unplug from power, hold power button 60 seconds, press power once to turn on) on the advice of Asus Support, and that held off the problem for about four days. Alas, just now I stepped away from the computer for a few minutes, Windows turned off the monitor due to power saving settings, and when I moved the mouse to turn it back on I got a totally white screen, plus the mouse cursor. A bit of control alt delete, clicking on where I guessed the account switch button might be, and it gave me the glitchy display that let me log back in and start a program to turn on the dGPU. I'm really not looking forward to wasting time with support, maybe sending the thing in for service, possibly having to open the thing up myself to undo the RAM and SSD upgrades before sending it in for service, being without a computer for who knows how long, and then having a computer I no longer trust to function properly.

The computer's performance, as a whole, works well. It plays all of the games I need it to and has had no performance issues. The issue is that after just 6 months of merely grabbing the computer each day and putting it away at night, the outer casing is breaking apart, exposing the wires where the monitor is. And now the screen on one side has distorted completely. Not army tuf. Unacceptable Asus.

    Adhesive Failure Ruined Screen

I purchased this laptop in November 2023 with zero issues until now. The adhesive is failing causing the screen to separate. The bezel literally chips off at the hinge each time it is opened or closed and at this point, I'm no longer able to use the laptop screen. A "2nd" monitor has to be plugged in to utilize the laptop. In this condition, it is no longer portable since the screen is in such a fragile state. I see that other reviews have experienced this same issue, however, ASUS support claims it is not recognized as a common problem. I have been a proud customer of ASUS in the past and now I will let everyone know to stay away from the company unless they're looking to spend $900 on a laptop that will only last a little over a year.

This laptop had the issue that all of these A16 laptops have. The screen goes black and just doesn't want to work unless you turn off a ton of settings that non savvy computer users would not do. Then I don't use the laptop for a couple of days, next time I open it up, the whole screen is messed up with lines across it. It didn't fall or anything, loose cable I assume. I returned it and replaced with an actual working laptop with a GTX 3070 instead for the same price.

Solid design, quiet and good performance, but...

After a couple days the fan started sounding like an old school bus (mine was an open-box) so I exchanged it for a Lenovo Legion Slim 7 6800s. While I had it, it was very good. Two gen 4 SSD slots and two RAM slots gave a lot of expansion options, The lid opens with one finger. The white LED keyboard felt/looked clean and had a great layout. There is a USB4 port. I was able to drive an Aorus 43" 4K 144Hz monitor fine on the two USB-C ports, but the HDMI port was a bit flaky, blacking out occasionally when on the dGPU. Although there was lots of plastic, it felt solid, slim and lighter than its weight suggested. The whole style is clean without that gamer look. I like the dedicated volume controls, but I wish there was a way to remap the useless (to me) mic mute and Armoury Crate buttons. I was able to slow charge the laptop using an 85w USB-C charger I used for my MacBook Pro 13. Performance is surprisingly strong all around, even on Silent which was my chosen mode. I got 80fps average on World War Z on high on my external monitor's 4K native resolution and the CPU felt at least as strong as my desktop's. Everything stayed ultra quiet and I got the battery to last up to 12 hours (!) with just browsing/youtube. With normal use, 6-8 hours is easy even at 165Hz, medium brightness, On Silent mode, you can game with 90% of the performance with very little noise, like a good underclock. Negatives: The speakers sounded very loud and clear, but almost completely lacking in bass of any kind (bit a deal-breaker for me). Asus software has like 25 processes running in the background and often conflicts with AMD's. The lid and keyboard areas collect fingerprints. Apart from 165Hz, the screen is pretty mid and doesn't get very bright. I also wish it had an SD card reader. Overall I really liked the form factor. The screen could be brighter and a bit more vibrant. The speakers are important to me and the complete lack of bass annoyed me. Anyone who's heard the effortless, full-bodied sound from a MacBook Pro or iPad would know what I'm on about, and I hate Apple. The final straw for me however, was the diesel-like rattling from one of the fans when spinning at low speeds. Something like that would only get worse over time and a quick search shows it's a bit of a common issue with these models. If you manage to get one of these without a defective fan I'd still rate it very highly, especially if you plan to use it with an external monitor and speakers.

Bought this laptop as a combo work and gaming laptop, as (thankfully) my career usually comes with downtime between actual work. I watched a coulle reputable YTers review the laptop and noted that they sometimes suggested going for something with a competitor gpu, but highlighted three important caveats: This is the most VRAM you can get at this price segment for current-gen gpus, the all-AMD specs means it has AMD Smart Access Graphics and WILD power efficiency (meaning unbeatable battery life at this price segment for gaming laptops), and… the 7600S turns out to be no slouch. No, really, go look for yourself in reviews; it wipes the floor against every competitor gpu in its price segment, reaching and achieving fps - even sometimes with ray-tracing! - that you can’t get with competition unless you pay significantly more. 1080p is a solid high-framerate experience with most current AAA titles, and even can do 4k (which I use with my OLED TV sometimes) with the help of the top three FSR 2 settings - I’ve never once had to go down to FSR Ultra Performance. All of this on top of around 8hrs of battery life in my experience when just working with documents and occasional videos (crazy!) and, thus far for me, solid reliability with no quirky bugs - at least if you let AMD Smart Access Graphics do its thing or commit to only using Armoury Crate’s ultimate gpu mode, as switching occasionally between the two caused me some headaches trying to diagnose stuttering in RDR2 and CP77. The fans are also very quiet for a gaming laptop in general, and they’re not as shrill as some I’ve heard; I’m really sensitive to high-pitched, shrill sounds, and I’ve been just fine playing for a couple hours at full tilt with the laptop blasting its fans right next to me. The monitor is really decent too at this price - definitely lacking in contrast, but the blacks are pretty good, the colors great, and the responsiveness right on par with some true non-laptop IPS gaming monitors. The speakers are even tolerable! And it all comes wrapped in an inconspicuous, svelte matte black finish that looks right at home in my office. I really did NOT expect to get so much out of this laptop, but it really is excellent. Give it serious consideration, I sure have been happy with it!

Received one which will not display anything at power-on although lights kept showing activity. After reset it came on but dead pixel (a horizontal like across screen). It's flimsy and doesn't have feel of prime laptop. Keyboard is just white backlit (come'on it's a gaming laptop), also the arrow keys are way to small (??). Display is bright but not enough for any outdoor work. Fan can get noisy and laptop gets warm pretty fast. On plus, this has the 90Whr battery which not offered at this price range. Processor and GPU are standard and will be obsolete in a year or so.

I bought this computer because I needed something for work and just one game. I liked the specs and the screen that has a thin bezel. It's light weight enough to carry around and it doesn't have a gamer's computer look which it's great. I played call of duty for a few days and I get great performance, no glitches, no lagging. The screen is amazing though I have 2 complaints overall. 1) Some applications looks a little blurry, because of the 125% recommended scale. 2) The plastic body is a magnet for finger prints. If your hands are oily in the slightest it will turn the computer into a magnet for marks. Overall I am very pleased, I bought this open item so it had a further discount which makes this purchase even better.

Nice quality laptop, Spectacular battery life, Screen is Mid, if on sell a a very good pick up. The [Ryzen 7 7735HS] is a slightly better, but refreshed [6800H], Although it still holds up well for any thing you might need. The [rx 7600s] is a decent gpu for modern gaming, on par with [Nvidia RTX 4050] maybe slightly better. What your really getting with this laptop is nicer quality, sturdier built machine from a reputable brand, priced competitively with similar specced laptops that might not have as good build quality as this machine does.

I dont use it often and it doesnt go anywhere but its resting place and my bed. No dropping either. First incident with it my screen got loose along with Keyboard and had to get the whole keyboard replaced first few months. Currently the screen is now loose. Gets hot when I play just roblox. Fan gets loud when I play sims. I manage because im not on it often but if your the opposite maybe not this one

Great laptop! I love the battery life when not playing games and love the performance when on wall power! Screen is perfect size and I love the fact they squeeze in a number pad. Keyboard is great. I wish the screen got a little brighter.

I got this for gaming and it is above and beyond my expectations in terms of graphics and speed. Sometimes when I turn it on, the screen stays black and I have to hard restart but that is my only issue.

I chose this laptop over more expensive options because of how well it balances power and efficiency for the price. AMD advantage smart access graphics are great, automatically activating the gpu and mux for games and turning off/slowing down for minor tasks to save power. Set and forget it with exemplary battery life lasting about 10 hours youtube. And as an option more battery life can be achieved by completely disabling the dgpu and smart graphics (requires reboot). Fans are quiet maxing out around 48 decibels. My biggest complaint is the screen only being 300 nits.
