Terrible
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Are you kidding me? It claims to be 4K but I have serious doubts. Also, my computer wouldn't register the thing. Avoid 100%. If I could rate this 0 stars, I would. (Which, I don't think I've ever done before, for context sake)

Very advanced 1080P+ web cam
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a far cry from your typical, consumer-grade webcam. It appears to be part of a larger system designed for commercial video conferencing systems, but works great as a stand-alone PC or Mac webcam. Note: I installed this on a Mac Mini 2014 with Mac OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan; it needed no drivers at all and was immediately recognized. Build quality is great. It uses a 4K chip to produce 1080P resolution, and I'm guessing that it down-converts this to 1080P. The picture quality is fantastic for a 1080P camera. The latest firmware upgrade (already installed when received) adds H.264 compression. Interestingly, the firmware release notes imply that 4K@30fps is possible, but this might only be only on the HDMI output. I haven't been able to get more than 1080P video out of the USB interface (which looks great, though!), but this might be a limitation of my old Mac Mini. The 4K chip enables a digital "zoom" capability. Fully zoomed out (using the entire 4K chip down-converted to 1080P) the camera has an absurdly wide view - something in the neighborhood of 104 degrees horizontal and 68 degrees vertical. Really; it's impressive. When zoomed the electronics simply displays a "window" of the chip's view, even though the entire zoomed-out view is still being seen by the full chip. As you digitally zoom you look at a smaller and smaller section of the chip, so the image will eventually degrade a bit. At 2x zoom you are at ~1080P, at 3x zoom you are at approximately 720P, etc. The digital zoom also provides for a digitial pan function. When zoomed in you are looking at a "window" of the 4K chip; to "digitially pan" the camera simply moves this "window" around the chip. Really cool, and very functional at moderate zoom levels. You can even set up specific zoom views and save them as one-button presets - for example, you can have a zoom view for face-to-face meetings, a zoomed-out view for group meetings, and a special zoomed-and-panned preset that centers the whiteboard in the view - all without having to so much as touch the camera. The camera includes a remote that allows for pan and zoom functions, as well as access to a control menu system that lets you fine-tune a whole bunch of settings. These include color, white balance, brightness, back-lighting, etc. It even allows you to reverse and/or flip the video image! This came in handy for me, since I mounted the camera upside down on a microphone boom mount. However, all these setup adjustments can be dangerous in the hands of a novice, and sure enough I was able to produce an impossible configuration that bricked my camera. If this happens to you, there is a fix! Turn off your computer (this is required; unplug-replug the USB will not work). When you turn it on the camera will be powered for several seconds during the boot sequence. When the power light comes on, press # * 6 on the remote control, which will reset the camera to factory defaults. When it comes back up don't forget to go back into the settings and re-enable H.264 (see the well-written manual for details)! Overall, I *really* like this camera, even at $200. It has a fantastic 1080P picture, an absurd field of view, some very interesting and useful features, and a remote for pan/zoom and advanced configuration. If you are looking for a 1080P camera with some advanced capabilities, I can strongly recommend this camera. If you like quality, you'll love this camera - and you'll probably never again settle for the consumer-grade junk we're normally offered.
