Going into buying this, I was just getting over a birthday of mine & wanted to buy something for me. So I started strolling through this website and came across this BB-8 Droid by Sphero. Bought it on an impulse. I love this little droid, but there really isn't much to it. You play with it, & it rolls around. The sounds it makes comes through the app on your phone; and the battery only lasts for about an hour, then you have to charge it for three hours to have a complete charge. Sphero promises that the droid will do more as time goes on. Realistically the droid is just a great paperweight until you have a case of Writer's Block and want to get some juices flowing...or maybe you just don't know if you want to play a game or watch a movie, so you turn BB-8 on and loose a good 15-30 minutes. It's a fun thing to lose time to, but other than that; there's not much to it. It has amazing technology in it, but until it can roam around my house freely or they make an extra headpiece for it that has a camera built in, this is just a good looking paperweight that you can play with. I'd recommend this as a buy, but only if you have the money to spend and aren't hurting. If not, wait for it to reach around $80 or so.

BB-8 is a great addition to the home, and we have had a lot of fun driving him around, and letting him explore. My animals are fascinated by him, and I have to watch them around the droid otherwise they think its another play toy for them. I haven't had any big issues, sometimes I just let bb-8 patrol around while I am doing my tasks and he's fun to watch. Took him with me a couple of times so people could also interact with him. You only get an hour of playtime before he needs charging, but that hour is tons of fun. Thicker carpet is an issue, and in the areas where we do have carpet he can only roll on the most walked areas at the highest speed setting so that is the only issue that we have come across. I have heard of people having issues with the app. but we have an iphone and haven't had trouble at all. I have had him about a month now, and he is getting better at not running into things, its just going to take some time. Just be warned he will grow on you if you don't love him already when he comes out of the box! Love hearing the opening music to star wars every time!! It is definitely worth every penny in my book!!!

This little guy is sweet. Steering takes a little getting used to and needs a little preplanning but the rest is very cool. The AR holograms are awesome and I love just letting him roll around and patrol on his own. His personality shines during that. Only down side is it does get a little played out after awhile. I don't use it much anymore...more of a novelty type toy and the novelty has worn down a little. Very dope product tho. My only wish was that it had its own speaker as well and didn't just play its noises thru the phone but I get it would increase the cost at that point too so I'm OK w it in the end. I'm hoping tho that since its pretty much just a phone app running this that they will continually update the app and add more features and routines that bb8 will run otherwise its gonna get old very fast...although I guess they already have my $150 so what do they care? ;-)

I got this little droid for my girlfriend for Christmas. It's easy to set up and configure if you know how to use a smartphone. A little disappointed by the one hour of use from a charge, but all in all, a great toy for young and old jedi alike!

Bought as a Christmas present for my 16 year old. Well he thought it was cool, he quickly became bored with it. It does not have that many features. My two 10 year olds love it however and will play with it until the battery dies.

Arrived packaged well, everything secure in a heavy presentation quality box. After opening and shaking to wake it up, proceeded to charge it for 3 hours. Found out that it does not like to charge off a normal USB port and will require a high power port or 2w+ phone charger to charge in 3 hours. Once it was charged I paired it with my phone and had a blast for about an hour before it needed charged again. It is adorable the way the head "looks" around and the sounds it makes (they come from your phone not the toy) but you do loose interest in it after a few days. Hopefully they add more to it with software updates soon. Otherwise it is a great valus for what you get and is fun to play with.

my9 y/o daughter was excited to get the bb8..she opened it and immediately started to play with it..she had a lot of fun with it and is very easy to use. the only bad thing is the battery life

This toy is a lot smaller than what they show on television. Its okay for a awhile, then you have to recharge it. The app that comes with it takes up a lot of space.

Always wanted to try it out and bought on a whim during thanksgiving. Setup was easy on android phone app. Took a bit to get used to controls on phone. Would have liked a controller to be included as well to avoid killing my phones battery. Also does not work the best on carpet or rugs. Overall fun and could be a good star wars collectible

He is a fun gadget to have but the app sucks the life out of your battery so if you don't have a battery case you won't get much play time. Just an FYI.

We bought this for our 16 year old son on his birthday. We have all fallen in love with it. It seems to have a personality of its own. We use it almost everyday. Only drawback is recharge tome. Other than that, it is easy to use and control with the app.

So nice I purchased this twice. My daughter and I play with BB-8 quite often. So much so that I believe our BB-8s look forward to its batteries running low just to get a break from we two humans. I will tip my hat to Sphero for this product and the other Star Wars products they have produced. I believe each one has developed its own personality. At least we think so. I do recommend buying BB-8 for any Star Wars fan (old and young).

We got this Black Friday for $30. It was a present for a 6 year old. The two things that need to be noted: 1>The first charge takes 3 hours and you will get 1+ hours of play. 2>There are NO instructions in the box or online. We had to watch a review on YouTube to figure out some of the features. However, we still give it 5 stars.

scoots around pretty quick. charges quickly, but with constant play last for about 45 minutes. Seems to be marketed to collectors and older kids, as it may break easily for younger kids that like to play rough with their toys.

My son loves this robot. He had one on which the battery died completely. I never would have bought this again when it was originally $150, but Best Buy had a price I couldn’t beat! So I bought a second one.

I love this toy. It works very well. Just don't use it on a rug. Battery life isn't the best but it's still loads of fun.

My son loves it, but it really drains the battery to iPhone or Android that is controlling it. Would like to record hologram messages...maybe next generation.
