WOW! What a vacuum!

I just bought the vacuum after comparing the Dyson yellow & animal versions. For less than half the price I did really well. I first emptied the container and then vacuumed my floor with my dirt devil bagless. Then I assembled my new vac. with the three screws, it took a whole 5 minutes. I then vacuumed the same floors I had just vacuumed. The amount of sand and cat hair that it picked up amazed me. I thought the carpet was clean since I had just vacuumed it, I knew my other one sucked, but didn't realize how much until I tested it. I still am interested to see if the Dyson is better, but short of having my friend bring her's over, I don't think I will find out. I am so happy with the Bissel!
The only negative point is how the bucket is emptied. I do not like the dirt left in the top filter when you remove the cup. The dirt falls down onto the base if it is bumped and needs to be cleaned of with something else since the vac hose connects to the dirt cup. Over all, a great vac and the dirt left is small compared to what it picks up.
BUY IT, YOU WON"T BE SORRY!

Just bought the Bissell pet hair eraser vacuum today. Easy assembly but the cord is in a poor location I ran the cord behind and over the lower cord winder bracket. It cleans like the dickens so far, day one. Better empty it outside or you will vacuum up the mess that spills, minor inconvenience to me I empty the cannister in the garage next to my shop vac. . I will post any other negatives if they arise.

It Really Does Work

I just bought mine. I had gone quite a while with a barely working vacuum cleaner. I thought I just had bad carpet. Then one day I hired a cleaning service and she brought her own vacuum, which was a commercial model. I couldn't believe the difference. I was planning to buy a commercial grade machine until I read all the reviews for this one. I went right out and bought it, and truly, it is wonderful.
I love the long, low snout because it reaches under and into areas that shorter, higher profile models won't get unless you move furniture, however, the hair lifter did get in the way some when it was in the off position for under lower spaces. It IS VERY LOUD, especially the hard floor cleaning feature, it really is a workout, even with the power boost, BUT it also REALLY WORKS! I was so happy I actually laughed out loud (LOL) when I finished my bedroom.
After I did the carpet without the pet hair lifter, I used the lifter, and it got more dirt and hair, and it fluffed up my carpets so much they looked new. I couldn't stop looking at them.
Things that would make it better: the cord should either be retractable, or in a different spot - it tends to get in the way; the noise is a bit alarming, so quieter would be a plus, but I prefer noisy and good to quiet and useless; if the hair lifter could actually slide completely flat somehow, it would make it easier to clean under the counters in the kitchen - sitting on top as it does makes it a tad too high to get under the edge there. The dirt cannister is a bit messy - easy to empty, but it's on the small side, and if you don't notice it filling up, (which it does amazingly quickly), it does spill out. I've never had a vacuum that has really great edging ability, and this one isn't great, but it is acceptable. At least it does get the edges a bit, and the cleaning power makes up for that small issue.
I find myself becoming a little obsessed with it, and I want to keep vacuuming until nothing more comes up, but that's not such a bad thing, right???
Overall, I would definitely buy it again, and I would definitely recommend it.

Best vaccum I've ever seen!

I had read all of the positive and negative rewiews of this vacuum before deciding to give it a try. It showed up in 5 days which I was VERY happy about. It was very easy to assemble once I looked at the pictures . I had some freinds over for dinner that night before my vacuum arrived, and since my old vacuum had gone to the big closet in the sky; I borrowed a friends. I thought that her vacuum had done a really good job once I had finished; or so I thought. I did a quick sweep of my living room and was shocked at how much her vacuum had missed! And she just purchased hers too! Since it was 10:30 at night I didn't go crazy last night, but I did this morning.
I live on post on a military base so the carpets here aren't high end berber by any means. And I have no clue how old it is. But this vacuum has made my carpet look SO NICE! It's lifted the pile in areas that were pretty much flat. With my old vacuum; I broke out into a sweat trying to get all the junk off of my stairs, not with this one! The rotating brush attachment rotates the ENTIRE time your using it! On my old vacuum, the brush would stop the second you touched it to any upholstery. And the hose reached all the way up my 11 stairs which made me very happy. With my old my old one I had to bring it to my landing and hope it didn't fall on my head.
In some of the negative reviews; they complained that the vacuum spewed dust everywhere. I haven't had that problem whatsoever. And I've had a TON of dust come out of my carpet. My only explination for that it that it could be a genuine malfunction; or they didn't assemble it properly. It's not very loud, not very heavy, and all of the attachments work wonderfully and are not flimsy my any means.
To me the vacuum should have this warning on the box:
WARNING: This vacuum may make you question your cleaning abilities! You will be shocked at how much dirt and pet hair you will pick up the first time you use this machine. Be assured that it is not you, our valued customer, that is the problem. It is your previous vacuum that has failed to live up to your high standards!
In conclusion, I am extremly satisfied with my new vacuum cleaner. It works beautifully and does an amazing job! I would highly reccomend this vacuum to anyone who is looking for a new one.

Couldn't Believe The Differnece

I own beagles. They shed constantly and in three colors, meaning that you have to vacuum and lint-remove constantly. When my trusty vacuum of 3 years failed in the middle of my normal cleaning regiment, I purchased this item and continued my multi-week ritual. I was shocked that the bag less canister filled up so quickly and at first was pretty dissatisfied...but then...
...Then I re-vacuumed the area that my old vacuum had already covered. Topically it had previously looked fine, but for the sake of being thorough, I went again. The shear amount of dust and dander that this product pulled out of my carpets was shocking...disgusting, but shocking and frankly it was very satisfying to know that we were on the right path for something closer to a true allergen free home.
It has been 3 months now, and with normal carpet maintenance, this vacuum has continued to make us very happy to plug it in and scour the house. It has been completely reliable with no faults. Further, the attachments are fantastic, especially the Turbo Brush which has proven very useful on both stairs and furniture. We were surprised by its speed and dirt-grinding ability.
Our only recommendation for future buyers is that if the canister is full, tap the side of the canister prior to opening and removing it so that all/most of the dirt settles first. If the user monitors the intake though, this will not be an issue.
Overall, this is a fantastic item that I would buy again and again and for the price, you just can't beat it.

Good and Bad

We have two cats and one dog and the dog sheds constantly. We really needed to find a vacuum that could take care of all the pet hair floating around the house. We settled on the Bissell after reading reviews here and on the internet. On the positive side, this thing cleans up hair and dirt great. The attachments work great to take hair off of furniture and the vacuum has plenty of suction to pick everything up. That brings us to the cons though. It has great suction IF you keep all the filters clean and empty the dirt bin constantly. Our house is probably an extreme case since our dog sheds sooo much but you have to empty the dirt container at least once per room. When you empty the dirt bin dust goes everywhere. You have to wipe the vacuum off or suction it off after emptying to get all the dirt off the outside of the vacuum. The reusable foam filter needs to be cleaned constantly, at least once a week. Hair piles up in there and if you dont check it all the time it clogs up inside and you have to dig the hair out. There is also a lot of dust and dirt that goes flying when you clean it out. We have owned the vacuum for about 4 months now and have had to replace the HEPA filter twice so far. The suction of the vacuum really falls off once the HEPA and foam filters get dirty. Another complaint is that pet hair gets easily jammed up in the spinning brush attachment and I've had to take it apart a few times to pull all the hair out so it will work again. If you don't put everything back in right it wont work correctly and the process isn't that simple. For the less mechanically inclined they might not be able to do this procedure. The design needs to be revised in order to correct this annoying problem. The only other complaint is that the curved tube attached to the hose where you connect the attachments can be pain due to the curve when you are trying to clean at certain angles. For shorter users this may not be a problem but I'm 6'4" and I have to bend over constantly to use it on the couch. Overall this is a very good vacuum that with some minor design changes could be great. When you factor in the price it certainly is a good bang for the buck verses the much more expensive units in this category.

Great vacuum for apartment with pets

My husband and I live in an apartment with two kittens. I never realized how much hair and dirt my old vacuum missed until I ran this one for the first time! This vacuum picked up two canisters full of cat hair, kitty litter, dirt, and dust that my old vacuum had left behind! I couldn't believe how dirty my floors had been! I love the power of this vacuum--it picks up hair and dirt in one pass, making for a quick vacuuming experience every time I use it. It's not too big or too heavy for everyday jobs. It also has some great attachments, including an attachment for cleaning pet hair off of your furniture--and it actually works. I love the bagless feature--I can just empty the canister right into my garbage can without having to replace a bag (which could get pretty expensive with the amount of dirt and hair my two kittens and my Marine husband track into our home!) I would highly recommend this vacuum to any pet owner. It's not too big for my apartment, but big and powerful enough to get the job done!

This is a very impressive vacuum. On the first use, I was startled (and a little disturbed) by the amount of filth it sucked out of my supposedly-clean rugs. I have three cats, and the pet-hair attachments really do what they're supposed to. The design is good and the attachments are easy to get at and use. The dirt container is much easier to empty and clean than the one on my old vacuum... of course there's still a fair amount of dust involved in the process but nothing like having a filter that needed to be tapped clean each time!
Assembling the vacuum was pretty simple, there is one tricky screw in there but nothing I couldn't handle... although it would've been MUCH harder without a magnetic screwdriver.
Only downside is the weight; it's over 20lb and not easy to lift. I have a very small house so this isn't an issue for me, but could be for an elderly person or anyone who has to haul it up and down stairs. The weight is not an issue when pushing it... while it's not self-propelled, the motorized brush roll gives it a very noticeable assist.
I didn't give five stars across the board because the turbo-brush seems to have stopped working. It still picks up but the brush roll doesn't turn. However I think there may just be some string wrapped around something so I will withhold judgment until I have a chance to take it apart and investigate.
Overall I am very pleased with this product and would definitely recommend it to anyone who has pets that shed!

I currently have 3 long haired cats and 2 dogs a austrialian shepherd and a border collie...lots of hair and lots of dirt they leave behind. I have bought vaccumms in the past and i would use them once or maybe twice and the rollers would get tangled with hair and it would blow out the motor and burn the betls. My house was alwas covered in hair and there was nothing i could except get on my hands and knees and pick up the hair manually.
I haven't had a single issue with this vaccumm, I've had it for almost 3 months and find myself vaccuming more than ever because it does such an amazing job i want my house to always look as nice as this vaccumm makes it.
I picks up everything any critter could leave beind hair, dirt, crumbs...anything. I also have two chinchillas and have used the vaccumm to clean out their cage...it can literally do anything!
Only issue is for me it's a little heavy after vaccuming for a while and also for me the filter fills up really fast and i have to empty it usually atleast once during a vaccuumming session.
Other than that i is a great product. Great quality, great looks, great price...it's totally life changer for me and i love how clean my house is. I would recomend this product to anybody with pets and even anybody w/o pets becaues it is such amazing quality at the price and works wonders.
LOVE IT!

Great overall value

For the value this is the best vacuum out there. I have previously purchased the DC17 Dyson (too expensive for what you get, it was easy to switch to the wand but to me not worth the price difference and it sucks just as well), the Bissell Healthy home (super duper heavy with no self propelling, and extremely hard to empty, you always have to use your hands). So after long reserach and product reviews i decided to opt for this vaccuum. The suction is superb, it sucks the dirt and sand right out of the carpet (even though i do not use shoes in the house). The vacuum is also easy to push and pull (i am a healthy 39 year old and i could not vacuum with the bissel healthy home). This vacuum is extremely easy to empy with no hands getting dirty. Now the cons: The brush bar never turns off (no button for it), you have to make sure that the basket is seated properly because it can be easly inserted inproperly. The section where you plug in the house can disconnect from the vacuum if you did not put it on tight, and the dust will go in your room instead of the canister. Besides these minor things i rated this vacuum a 5 star due to the price and value.

My wife and I live alone in a fully carpeted apartment with 5 cats. For years we have relied on a 40+ year old Electrolux tank vacuum, and it has performed marvelously. This weekend it finally failed...the piece of plastic on the main tube which forms the handle cracked in two.
I shopped around the web for a good portion of a Saturday, and found this Bissel. It comes highly recommended from other reviewers, and I am writing this to say, believe what you read! This pulled enough hair off a 6x12 area rug in one pass to fill the container! Best part, I had just vacuumed yesterday! The suction powered brushing head works extremely well on the couch, yet its gentle enough that I can put it against my bare skin(wont damage the fabric over time)
My carpets look noticeably cleaner. For an extra $20 I put the best buy "4 year plan" on it, so all in all I think it's a great buy for the money. I'm still going to keep my Electrolux and just rig it, as this Bissel does not have a crevice tool, which is essential if you want to clean a car...but overall, this is a great machine!

I had a gift card that was eating a hole in my pocket, and while a male in my demographic typically wouldn't buy a vacuum, I couldn't resist after reading the above reviews. All I can say is WOW, and that all of the hype from previous reviewers is true. My wife laughed at me while I became giddy over the amount of dirt that this machine was able to un-earth from our carpet. Ironically my dog doesn't shed, but dust bunnies and dirt are plentiful on our hard wood floors and carpets. I would highly recommend this vacuum and the only con is that it may be cumbersome for older or weaker folks to tote up and down the steps. However it's weight is not a liability during use as the machine has some type of self-propelling mechanism that helps it glide over floors with ease. Final thoughts; buy it.

We bought this vacuum about a month ago. So far it has been great. But there is one thing. The hose. It is wire reinforced so if u bend step or crush it in any the wire slips out of plase and the hose sucks in itself so suction stops and it sounds like has a clog. But i am pleased because i called bissel and told them what happended and the sent me a new hose for free. A 18.00 hose for free. It came in 4 days. Bissel's customer service impressed my and is someone who i can work with. The brushroll is awesome. the growl sound lets you know its picking up the carpet. I is so powerful it pulls you along like a dog. Its kind of self propeled. The accesories are great also. I had a hoover fusion\mach3 and it picked up what the hoover could not. that my my 150 worth it to know i have a truly clean carpet. Take that hoover\tti. it is a little heavy but not hard to push. I love this vaccumm dont think about it buy it you will be pleased.

I love this vacuum. I was shocked to see how much cat hair and feathers this thing sucked uo after my first use.The only drawback is when you clean it, you take the plastic cup out and sometimes there is dust and dirt on the bottom of the cup that then falls on the floor. You cant suck it up becuase when you have the plastic cup is removed there is no suction. And on the vacuum where the plastic cup sits there is also dust, so you have to wipe it off with a wet cloth.
But besides that I love seeing my vacuum working and collecting all the hair.
The attachments are pretty neat too.
When using the hose and the vacuum is in the upright position, it has a tendancy to fall over because it has fallen on me as I am down on my knees vacuuming the base boards.
But it is still a great vacuum and much cheaper then the Dysons

Isn't it great when you buy a product and it works as advertised right out of the box? This is one such product. I had read the reviews at the Best Buy site and was impressed by the uniformity of the comments. My experience parallels that of the otherd, i.e. several containers of dirt, hair, etc. removed on the first vacuuming. My carpet looks even better than it did the last time it was professionally cleaned. It seems thicker and more "cushioner". The vacuum is a little heavy for me to lug upstairs (I'm 66 y/o), but is worth the effort. I highly recommend this vacuum.

This vac can pick up hair, dust, dirt and separate them into two place within itself (dirt/dust in the center and the outer for all other). The Con here is that you have to empty it frequently, the container is small, it fills up fast with hair.
I can't believe it can pick up so much dirt that was stuck within my carpets that my old vac never had picked up.
The vac is a bit heavy and you can't really use it on the stairs. Although it have a tube and attachments, i find it hard to vac up objects since it's missing a good brush adapter.
This vac is good pet hair and such, but if you are looking for something to clean other things besides carpet, look else where.

This is the absolute best vacuum I have ever used. I owed a Dirt Devil Reaction D2 and it was horrible - so heavy and didn't pick anything up. I have two (2) cats and they shed like crazy so it is really hard to keep up with cleaning. This vacuum picked up every little thing on the rug and made the carpet like brand new. The attachments are great too - especially the turbo brush! I would highly recommend this vacuum cleaner to anyone who is in need of one especially if they have animals but even if they don't.

I bought this vacuum over a month ago after deciding to replace my cordless small one and assemble it by myself (easy). This is a very powerful vacuum that will pick up lots of dust and hair. If you don't mind cleaning up the front part of the vacuum after taking out the dirty container, go ahead you will be happy with it! I'm not saying that it is an issue for me, I really like the vacuum! The on-board tools are great for sofas, windows and hard to reach places. After using this vacuum my carpet is always more fluffy and even my husband notice!

I had a canister Kenmore vacuum for the last 4 years, but it never seemed to pick up my pet hair (german shepherd & long hair cat), but the saleslady at Sears said it would work for a house with pets/stairs. It never got my carpets clean & even after vacuuming, I'd sit on my carpets & get up covered in dog hair. You could still see it all over the floors.
I started researching new vacuums last week because I decided I needed 2 things:
1) Something that could get my carpets super clean
2) an upright bagless, because the canister was a pain to lug around & I was sick of buying bags.
Well, the Dyson Animal was the first one I looked at, but at $500, a little expensive for me to justify.
Then I read a Consumer Reports review that said "don't get sucked into the expensive ones".
It led me to this vacuum, and after reading the reviews I figured I had nothing to lose, so I ordered it and got it home today.
OH WOW. My carpets were FILTHY!! All the dog hair, dust, and dander this thing picked up was amazing. I had to dump the cup 4 times for my living room alone! And I'm not a dirty person!
The previous reviewers who said their carpets looked professionally cleaned afterwards were NOT exaggerating, they look as beautiful as the day they were installed (3.5 years ago).
After vacuuming, I laid down on the carpet with my kids and when I got up, not one dog or cat hair on me...and I'm wearing a black wool sweater today!
Other posters have said it's heavy, I did not find it to be too heavy (no worse than my canister) but I won't be using it on my stairs, since they are wood & I can use my light, cordless, stick vacuum on them instead.
I'm so happy....My house looks sooooo clean & I think it even smells better.
Thank you Bissell, you ROCK!

Almost Perfect

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Let me paraphrase by saying that I had to return this vacuum--reluctantly. I have 2 dogs and a cat and it worked great on the furniture and the carpet. It works just as good if not better than a Dyson which is what I replaced the Bissell with--again reluctantly b/c of price. This vacuum would be perfect if the design was changed somewhat. The handle on the vacuum is designed leaning forward which throws the balance off...ok this would be fine as well if they would have incorporated a shut off switch for the brushbar. See what happens is when using the handtools the balance of the vacuum is off and it rocks forward and the brushbar digs into the carpet, this caused areas of fraying to my carpet. One simple on/off switch would have solved this problem, just a design flaw. Otherwise this vacuum in my opinion is a Dyson slayer. The Dyson DC-17 I have ($150 vs $500) doesn't do any better and the handtools don't work as well BUT the balance is better and the brushbar shuts off when using the handtools. Buy this vacuum and save a lot of money is you have hardwoods or low profile carpet. (Just so you know even on the highest floor setting the vacuum still dug into my carpet. I still have to recommend this product though.
