Customers are saying
Customers often highlight the Pet Hair Eraser® Upright Vacuum's ability to pick up pet hair and its powerful suction. They appreciate its ease of use and the variety of attachments that come with it. However, some customers find it to be heavy and not very maneuverable. There are also a few complaints about the swivel feature, the brush stopping on carpets, and the loud noise level.

Lives Up to the “Pet Hair Eraser” Name
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our family has several cats, one of which is always indoors, and they leave a significant amount of hair wherever they go, especially in the summer when they shed more. We had high hopes for the vacuum, which was developed for pet owners, and it does not disappoint! Because we had recently vacuumed before trying this Bissell Pet Hair Eraser, we did not expect it to suck up very much, but we were very surprised after just one quick sweep down a hallway! This Bissell sucked up a significant amount of hair, dust, crumbs and dirt. It was a little frightening to see how much was in our carpet, but also satisfying to see how well this vacuum works! The tools on the vacuum, such as the Tangle-Free Brush Roll, are helpful and work great as well. In addition, the steering mechanism makes directing the vacuum simple, and it helps you vacuum in hard to reach places or maneuver around angles and curves. The only thing that we think could be improved is the cord. Our previous vacuum had a cord that would automatically retract at the press of a button, which was very convenient. That feature would be great to see on this vacuum, but I do not have any complaints! If you are a pet owner, my family and I would highly recommend purchasing this vacuum.

Very disappointed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always loved the bissell vacuums, but this one is awful! It gets plugged up constantly and I am always having to take it apart to unplug it.... it's because the inlet port is so narrow that EVERYTHING gets stuck in it! I will be returning this!

Pretty Powerful Pet Household Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The swivel head took a bit to get use to. Has pretty good suction. The vacuum is fairly easy to clean up, but if you have longer/bundled hairs you are vacuuming up, still have to cut them off the rollers eventually. Empties pretty easy. I liked the lighted crevice tool. Have to adjust height for your surface, but is easy to do so. Easier to put tools on the wand thing most times, stays attached better. Works well for cleaning off furniture too.

Definitely a Vacuum for hairy pet owners!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not an easy person with vacuums, I tend to break them from time to time. However, the fact that this unit is heavy and sturdy, I though that it will be hard to maneuver, but it was not, it was smooth, and the design is right, I love how it looks. It is easy to maintain, change filters, and it does the work suctioning pet hair really well, I have a Golden Retriever, and I am allergic, so I am very grateful that this unit accomplished the expectations..

Does a Great Job But Can Be Tricky To Assemble
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My initial reaction after assembly was that it was much more challenging then it needed to be and reason for the 4 rating. One odd thing was a 2 attachment holder versus the installed 1 attachment version which was hard to remove. Why give us a choice? Why not have put the 2 attachment version on the machine? Would have saved some cost and confusion. Seems some additional simplification could be made here on the design. If you make it past the assembly, you will find that the vacuum does perform very well. We were amazed at the amount of dirt and dog hair it pulled out of our carpets/furniture. Our dog has short hair and is a cross between a beagle and a Jack Russell Terrier. She sheds constantly and those tiny hairs get everywhere. In addition to the normal carpet mode, the vacuum has many nifty "above floor" options for you to try. The crevice tool with the built in light is great. Also the roller wand for picking up pet hair on stairs. I like that you can turn off the floor motor while working "above floor". For the functionality\performance alone, I would give it a 5 out of 5. In the packaging you will also find an optional "Febreze" filter. Give it a try. Along with a $1 off coupon for a Febreze Air Care product. Also, don't forget, with your purchase, you can have $10 go to the Bissell Pet Foundation. The BISSELL Pet Foundation assists animal welfare organizations. Read details on the outside of the box.

Excellent Upright Pet Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have tried most of the vacuum brands and there were certain things we didn't like about it. Bought the Pet Hair Eraser® Upright Vacuum and using it for two weeks. It outperforms other vacuums by far. With the other vacuums the brushes were always getting filed with hair from our dog and my wife / daughter's long hair, and we always had to reach inside the canister to pull out debris. In Pet Hair Eraser, nothing on the brush and the canister empties out perfectly. It makes our carpet look beautiful when we are done. We can't say enough good about this vacuum. I really liked the idea of Febreze® Pet Odor Eliminator™ filtration to erase pet odors and freshen as you vacuum. There are nice features in this vacuum listed below. Tangle-free brush roll to help eliminate hair wrap Hands-free empty tank with the Patented Cyclonic Pet Hair Spooling System™ Specialized Pet Tools to easily remove embedded pet hair from hard-to-reach places SmartSeal™ Allergen System that helps trap dirt and allergens inside the vacuum Febreze® Pet Odor Eliminator™ filtration to erase pet odors and freshen as you vacuum Suction Channel Technology™ for powerful, edge-to-edge cleaning Swivel steering, multi-surface cleaning, and quick-release wand If you have pets, please don't look back and buy this vacuum.

Pet hair magnet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have 2 cats that live almost exclusively in our basement as we have a dog who reigns supreme upstairs and the cats want nothing to do with him. The basement is semi finished with rugs and couches etc, we also keep the litter boxes there. With the cats lazing about on the rugs, furniture and tracking litter all over we need a vacuum that can deal with all that having pets entails. This vacuum does just that. It's fairly easy to assemble out of the box with pieces snapping into place and clear instructions on how to do so. Also included is a Febreeze filter that you need to choose to install instead of the factory default one which is just a plain filter. I chose to install the Febreeze one. Now on to how it works, the suction on this is great and the body swivels which is a great feature. Also included is the led lit crevice tool and turbo eraser attachment which make getting into smaller areas a breeze. Another cool feature is how the roller brush will not get tangled with hair etc with the tangle free brush roll. This is a bag less vacuum which is very convenient and it emptys with ease, and you don't have to come in contact with all the stuff you vacuumed up. Overall a great choice for pet loving households and another plus...after vacuuming with the Febreeze filter, the whole room had a fresh scent for long after I was done using the vacuum.

Very good if not exceptional vacuum cleaner
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I imagine that people look for different features in a vacuum cleaner, but a bottom line for everyone is that the vacuum effectively sucks up dirt and debris from the surfaces you want to clean. Over the years, this is what I have looked for in a vacuum cleaner, and I have been willing to pay a little more for a vacuum cleaner that performs this basic function. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is as good at removing dirt and debris as any vacuum I have owned—no better, no worse. It is a good, solid performer. I actually tested it first on the interior of my car, which I have not cleaned in many months. The main brush roll worked fine on the carpeted floor mats, and the attachment tools worked well on the surfaces and crevices inside the car. One especially nifty tool for cleaning the dark recesses of the car was the LED lighted crevice tool, which illuminates the area you are cleaning. I've never seen anything like this before, and I found it very useful. The LED is activated by a button push when you insert the tool into the wand. I figured out that you can also simply push the button with your thumb if you want to use another tool in the wand while illuminating the space where you are cleaning. Very neat. After cleaning my car I tried the vacuum on a rug in a room our cat like to use a lot. She has been shedding like crazy lately, so this was a good test of the machine's ability to gather pet hair (which is supposed to be its specialty). The vacuum performed very well, removing all of the cat hair. One feature of the roll brush that could prove to be especially useful over time is that it is designed to reduce hair wrapping around the roll. That has been a longstanding problem in my house, as every so often I've had to cut both pet and human hair that wrapped around the brush roll of my Shark navigator. Another pet-relevant feature of the vacuum is its "Cyclonic Pet Hair Spooling System," which is supposed to trap pet hair, keeping it out of filters, and allowing for easy, hands-free disposal with the press of a button. That feature worked very well, too. However, I didn't find it to be all that different from the trap and disposal system of my Shark Navigator, which works pretty much the same way. My current Shark Navigator provided a point of reference for comparing the features of the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser. Both seemed equally effective at removing dirt and debris. The Bissell is a little bit heavier and bulkier than the Navigator, although the difference did not bother me. The attachment tools were comparable. Both have a small brush attachment, although the Bissell 2-in-1 Pet Brush can be attached in reverse in case you want little rubber nubs instead of brush bristles for cleaning embedded pet hair. I did not have any embedded hair for testing that option, but it seems like a good one. I've already mention that the Bissell crevice tool contains and LED light, which the Shark does not. Both come with an attachment containing brushes that spin from the vacuum suction. Bissell calls this their Pet TurboEraser Tool. Now, a vacuum-driven, spinning brush is simply not going to be as powerful as a belt-driven brush, and that is true in the case of these tools. Yet I found that the Shark turbo tool was a bit more powerful than the Bissell Pet TurboEraser tool. It is also larger. Neither is super-effective at removing pet hair; you have to go over the surface again and again to pick up hair this way. The main brush roll is way better. I think I like the Shark tool better because it is larger, although the smaller size of the Bissell Pet TurboEraser tool allows you to store it right on the vacuum cleaner if you want. (To do this you can remove the default tool caddy and snap on the provided double-tool caddy, a pretty neat feature.) The power cords on both machines are long and sturdy, and they wrap and release well on the cord holder. I was not really keen on the Bissell's removable hose system. The hose is not as long as the Shark's hose, so when I used the attachment tools I felt tied to the main housing. Also, to use the hose with the attachment tools you have to turn a knob at the base of the machine to switch the vacuum from the brush roll to the hose with attachments. To pull out the hose from the Bissell you also have to hold in a button. With the Shark you just twist and pull the hose away from the main housing and away you go. I can imagine forgetting to switch the knob back to the brush roll and wondering why the brush roll wasn't working. No, not just imagine—this happened when I was vacuuming my car. Two nice features that the Bissell has and the Shark lacks are a height adjustment knob for dealing with differences between bare floors, short carpeting, and long carpeting, and separate switches for power and engagement of the brush roll. (The Shark has two positions on one switch for the latter function.) One final feature I'll mention for the Bissell was something that I did not like at first but then changed my mind: the base swivels in every direction continuously. At first, this felt like the joint between the main housing and brush roll had broken, making it flop all over the place. But I quickly saw that this helps with maneuvering into corners and spaces of all shapes, so it is a very good feature. All-in-all, the advantages and disadvantages of the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser made it about equal to my Shark Navigator, which I have enjoyed using for many years. I can recommend this vacuum cleaner, not just to pet owners, but to anyone.

Lots of brush action
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser impressed me quite a bit. The machine took just a bit to setup. You'll definitely want to read the instruction manual when first setting this up. I thought it was broken when I first got it because it refused to sit upright. Pushing the handle around and pivoting the machine around some managed to get it to lock into place. The brush action on this machine is amazing. The main brush is large and touts itself as being "tangle free." It has an adjustable level knob that you can set for your floor height. On the medium setting, it leaves nice clean grooves in my carpeting. It also comes with a handheld rotating brush attachment, and the handle has a built-in, detachable brush attachment that runs up the hose (it kind of resembles a toy blaster or water pistol). The brush on this handle piece does not move, but it does give you an option to either use it as a standard bristle brush or as a rubber toothed brush. The manual claims that the rubber bristles (really little more than nubs) are designed to get deeply embedded pet hair out of surfaces. The clip to change modes is a little hard to work on this part though. I found this tool to be very useful when cleaning upholstery. The machine also has a lit crevasse attachment that requires separate batteries for the light. I wasn't able to test this as I didn't have this kind of hearing aid battery on hand. The main canister is by far the biggest selling point on this machine for me. Rather than having a canister with a center piece that dirt and debris can get stuck in (requiring that you reach in with your fingers and fish things out - ick), the machine just has a single open canister that you dump out when full. There is no central column for things to get stuck in. This is absolutely huge in my mind. The only criticisms I have are that the machine doesn't have a cord rewind, and the machine's suction is a little weak. Despite the weak suction, the machine does an incredible job cleaning. This is probably due to the previously mentioned heavy brush action. Overall, I found this machine to be effective and impressive. I would definitely recommend it.

Blown away by this vacuum!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Where to start really? This vacuum has really won me over. Lets start with the basics. Build quality seems outstanding, it is very solid and has just enough attachments. The design itself is very cool as well from the 30 foot cord, to the detachable handle, and even a LED crevice tool! I also love the bag free canister design. Performance wise is where this machine really shines though! From the carpet to the attachments it is a powerful machine and just plows through the pet hair! The design on the front roller is impressive and it really does seem to prevent the buildup of hair that is promises. I've only had the unit a few weeks so far but I honestly have no complaints thus far. It is a quality piece of machinery and lives up to the hype of one of, if not the best, pet hair removing vacuums out there!

Great for Pet Owners and Quilters
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This does a great job of picking up hair, even drawing some out of the carpet my old vacuum didn't seem to pick up. But, there's another group who will benefit from this vacuum, and that's people who sew a lot. My wife is an avid quilter and I've had it with unwrapping loose thread from the carpet that tangles in the rotating bar. This vacuum has a specialy designed beater bar that makes it easy to remove pet hair, but has the added benefit of making it easy to remove thread. If you live in a home with a quilter, or are one yourself, you know your sewing room is filled with bits of thread! All in all, a solid vacuum. Got it for the hair, keeping it for the thread!

Nice vacuum, works well
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well made with many nice features as well as a few minor flaws. Great for cleaning up my cat's fur on carpet and furniture. I like the hands free empty, brush roll with on/off switch, and furniture attachment also works well. Much quieter than my old vacuum, which my cat also appreciates. She always freaked when I would use my old one..A little heavy but no worse than my old one. Needs a wand extension, the built in one is kind of short. Hoping they come out with one for it. Also no light except on the crevice tool (which is a nice plus). Swivel wheels would make it easier to maneuver but no. Overall, I like it.

Versatile and Powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't used a "new" vacuum in years. I was still holding onto an Electrolux my parents had before I was born. It has a lot of attachments, but it was clunky and they were all separate. The first thing I noticed (and loved) about this vacuum is that all of the accessories/hoses/attachments actually attach to the vacuum so there's no need to dedicate space for them. The vacuum is pretty easy to put together and I think it looks cool (some may not like the lime green color). It is extremely powerful and not too terribly noisy. There are a few things to keep in mind, you have to remember to switch a lever to go from using the handheld hose brush to vacuuming the floor. There's also a button to power on the floor brush next to the button to turn the vacuum on. This isn't complicated, and there are labels on the device itself (very useful) but it's something that takes some adjusting to when you first use all of the attachments (again, I'm used to just flipping a switch and everything just turning on). Once you get accustomed to the vacuum and read the instructions, it becomes dead simple to go from vacuuming the floor to using the attachments. I liked the option of emptying the tank. (Mostly) everything came out without me having to put my hand in it. My only complaints are the movements of the vacuum and the hose length when using it to vacuum say, your couch. The vacuum body swivels at an angle from side to side, presumably to take a wider turn, when trying to turn the vacuum while sweeping the floor. I found this a bit jarring (relatively speaking) from using a traditional two wheeled vacuum cleaner. I didn't find the swivel motion very useful (although the vaccum itself moves effortlessly). I just found it difficult navigating turns and pushing the vacuum forward and backwards. It's likely due to muscle memory of my previous vacuum and I'm sure I will adjust going forward. I also found the hose attachment, while convenient and powerful, to be too short. Once you turn on the hose attachment, it "shrinks" and doesn't give you much room to work with. I'm certain all vacuums with a hose attachment do this because the vacuum is "sucking" air, but I found it difficult to reach far places without having the vaccum right next to what I was trying to vacuum. I don't have stairs, so I am unable to speak on the difficulties of vacuuming them. All in all this is a great vacuum. I think it's a great value. I like having the brush attachment and narrow wand attachment (I don't know the specific term Bissell uses) attached to the vaccum. It makes it easy to grab one vacuum and have everything you need right there. It is very powerful and gets the job done quickly. It picks up things my old vacuum missed.

The best vacuum for pet owners
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I just want to get one thing out of the way with this vacuum. It is a bit overkill if you have no pets or a pet that only sheds a little, but in my case we have two cats in our house and this vacuum is dramatically better than anything else we have tried in order to keep the cat hair out of everything. It is important to us because we have a frequent visitor who is quite allergic to cats and it bothers her considerably. I tried the vacuum over a long period and not only is it great for keeping pet hair within line, but it is great for flipping a house such that you can get it into the status that cat hair won't affect those who predominantly have it throughout their home. I can't see myself recommending anything else at this point because of how well it works.
